Objective: ERCC1 (excision repair cross-complementation group 1) expression predicts survival in patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) treated with chemoradiation. In order to evaluate the predictive role in the adjuvant setting, we investigated ERCC1 expression in radically resected HNSCC patients who underwent surgery and cisplatin chemoradiation.

Methods: ERCC1 expression levels were determined by immunohistochemistry in primary tumor tissues from 48 patients with stage III-IV cancers.

Prostatic involvement in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GWP), formerly known as Wegener's granulomatosis, is rare, mostly arising in the context of systemic involvement. Prostatic involvement as the first manifestation of this systemic disease is exceptionally rare. We hereby present the case of a 41-year-old male patient who underwent transurethral prostate resection for what was initially diagnosed as suppurative, focally necrotizing prostatitis.

The primary clinical manifestation is recurrent sudden-onset and severe (‘thunderclap’) headaches over 1–3 weeks, often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, photophobia, confusion and blurred vision.

We have shown that Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) lytic cycle activation in Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) cells down-regulates chymotrypsin- and caspase-like activities of the proteasome. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether EBV activation might also affect proteasome subunit composition. Our results indicate that, independently of the latency program established in the host cells, induction of the EBV lytic cycle reduces the expression of the proteasomal components β5, β1 and β2i, whereas it increases that of β2, β1i, PA28α and PA28β.
