Angiogenesis is the hallmark of cancer progression driven by VEGF/VEGFR-2 signalling pathway, inhibition of which could be a solution to tackle the progression of tumour cells and thus arresting their growth. A novel class of pyrazoles was synthesized using arginine and dibromo ketones. Antiangiogenic activity was performed by yolk sac method.

Autophagy is vital for maintaining cellular homeostasis by breaking down unnecessary organelles and proteins within cells. Its activity varies abnormally in several diseases, including cancer, making it a potential target for therapeutic strategies. The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway significantly impacts cancer by stabilizing β-catenin protein and promoting the transcription of its target genes.

Obg, a GTPase, binds to the premature 50S ribosomal subunit and facilitates recruitment of rproteins and rRNA processing to form the mature 50S subunit. This binding depends on nucleotide-induced conformational changes (GDP/GTP). However, the mechanism by which Obg undergoes conformational changes to associate with the premature 50S subunit is unknown.

Because of the universal decline in biodiversity, it is important to map and assess the populations of the endangered species, especially those endemic to small regions, in their remaining wild habitats. With the main focus on the distribution and habitat suitability of the endangered lion-tailed macaque, Macaca silenus, we carried out a survey on primates in the Kodagu region of the Western Ghats, an area not properly explored earlier. The survey trails covered a length of 523 km.

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a fatal cancer that is often diagnosed at the advanced stages which limits the available therapeutic options. The interaction of HGF with c-MET (a receptor tyrosine kinase) results in the activation of c-MET which subsequently triggers the PI3K/Akt/mTOR axis. Overexpression of c-MET in HCC tissues has been demonstrated to contribute to tumor progression and metastasis.

Precision Medicine and Healthcare Research Center, Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute, Tsinghua University, Shenzhen 518055, Guangdong, PR China; Institute of Biopharmaceutical and Health Engineering, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, Shenzhen 518055, PR China. Electronic address:

Objective: Mitomycin C (MMC), a DNA-damaging chemotherapeutic, is commonly used clinically for recurrent cervical carcinoma (CC), either alone or in combination. MMC generates DNA damage resulting in CC cell death yet also induces increased AKT-BAD phosphorylation associated with drug resistance and reduced clinical benefit. The present study evaluates the efficacy of combined MMC and a BAD phosphorylation inhibitor in CC.

Probiotic and Functional Attributes of Yeasts Isolated from Different Traditional Fermented Foods and Products.

Probiotics Antimicrob Proteins

August 2024

Applied Mycology Lab, Department of Studies in Microbiology, University of Mysore, Mysuru, 570006, Karnataka, India.

Though numerous bacteria have been used as probiotics by industries, at present, Saccharomyces boulardii and Saccharomyces cerevesiae are the only yeast probiotics which are industrially exploited. In view of this, yeast probiotics were isolated from traditional fermented foods and products collected from different parts of Karnataka, India. In this work, we have studied the probiotic attributes of ten yeast isolates isolated from different traditionally fermented foods and products.

In this study, the synthesis of poly(AVGVP) [where A-Alanine, V-Valine, G-Glycine, and P-Proline] is executed by the stepwise solution phase method. The interaction between Chitosan and synthetic polypentapeptide in blends was examined in the liquid and solid phases. Viscosity criteria that establish the total miscibility with Chitosan are the Δ[η], the intrinsic viscosity [η], Huggins coefficient [], by Garcia Δ, α by Sun, and μ suggested by Chee, Δ, and β buttressed by Jiang and Han.

Oxazine drug-seed induces paraptosis and apoptosis through reactive oxygen species/JNK pathway in human breast cancer cells.

Transl Oncol

November 2024

Department of Science in Korean Medicine, Kyung Hee University, 24 Kyungheedae-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul 02447, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Small molecule-driven JNK activation has been found to induce apoptosis and paraptosis in cancer cells. Herein pharmacological effects of synthetic oxazine (4aS, 7aS)-3-((4-(4‑chloro-2-fluorophenyl)piperazin-1-yl)methyl)-4-phenyl-4, 4a, 5, 6, 7, 7a-hexahydrocyclopenta[e] [1,2]oxazine (FPPO; BSO-07) on JNK-driven apoptosis and paraptosis has been demonstrated in human breast cancer (BC) MDA-MB231 and MCF-7 cells respectively. BSO-07 imparted significant cytotoxicity in BC cells, induced activation of JNK, and increased intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels.

In the current era of rapid population growth, there has been an increase in resource consumption and the subsequent release of organic pollutants into water bodies by various industries. To address this issue, we have developed a nanocomposite material, BiS-TiO/HNTs, for electrochemical sensors capable of simultaneously detecting nitrofurantoin (NFT) and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) contaminants. The nanocomposite material was synthesized using a novel one-pot sol-gel method, and its structural morphology was characterized using techniques such as FE-SEM, FT-IR, HR-TEM, and XRD.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes global disparities in the incidence and mortality rates of gynecological cancers (GCs) using data from GLOBOCAN 2022, highlighting a significant impact on women’s health and healthcare systems worldwide.
  • In 2022, there were approximately 1.47 million new cases and 680,000 deaths from GCs globally, with the highest incidence and mortality rates in Eastern Africa, linked to factors like HIV and HPV.
  • Projections for 2050 indicate that if current trends continue, the burden of GCs will worsen, especially in regions with lower Human Development Index (HDI) ratings, underscoring the need for targeted health interventions.

Introduction: Nuclear factor kappa (NF-κB) plays a key role in cancer cell proliferation; thus, small molecule inhibitors of NF-κB activity can effectively inhibit breast cancer (BC) progression. We have previously reported oxazine and piperazine-linked pyrimidines as novel anti-cancer agents that can suppress NF-κB activation in BC cells. Moreover, the TRX-01 compound, an oxazine-linked pyrimidine, inhibited MCF-7 cells at a concentration of 9.
