Background & Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Liver transplantation (LT) is a curative treatment option. We investigated survival outcomes based on recipient-donor sex constellation (RDSC) following LT.

SUNLAND: a randomized, double-blinded phase II GERCOR trial of sunitinib versus placebo and lanreotide in patients with advanced progressive midgut neuroendocrine tumors.

Background: Sunitinib, a multitarget tyrosine kinase inhibitor, showed encouraging antitumor activity and manageable toxicity in patients with advanced midgut neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) in earlier results from phase I and II trials.

Patients And Methods: In this phase II trial, patients with a nonresectable grade 1 or 2 midgut progressive NET and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0-1 were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive 37.5 mg sunitinib or a placebo, combined with 120 mg lanreotide autogel every 28 days.

History and genetic diversity of African sheep: Contrasting phenotypic and genomic diversity.

Domesticated sheep have adapted to contrasting and extreme environments and continue to play important roles in local community-based economies throughout Africa. Here we review the Neolithic migrations of thin-tailed sheep and the later introductions of fat-tailed sheep into eastern Africa. According to contemporary pictorial evidence, the latter occurred in Egypt not before the Ptolemaic period (305-25 BCE).

Percutaneous cryoablation in soft tissue tumor management: an educational review.

Background: Percutaneous cryoablation (PCA), having shown effectiveness in treating liver, lung, prostate, breast, and kidney tumors, is now gaining attention for the treatment of soft tissue tumors. PCA functions by freezing tissue, which induces ice crystal formation and cell death without damaging collagen structures. Technical considerations include the selection and handling of cryoprobes and cryogenic agents, procedural duration, and choice of image guidance for precision.

Exploring the Endothelin-1 pathway in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension microvasculopathy.

Targeted vasopeptide therapies have significantly advanced the management of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). However, due to insufficient preclinical evidence regarding the involvement of the endothelin-1 (ET-1) pathway in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) pathophysiology, the potential of ET-1 receptor antagonism in treating CTEPH remains uncertain. In this study, we investigated the role of the ET-1 pathway in CTEPH microvasculopathy using a multifaceted approach.

Orthopedic Surgery in Osteogenesis Imperfecta in Adults.

Osteogenesis imperfecta is a genetic disorder, mainly characterized by bone fragility. In adult with osteogenesis imperfecta, surgical treatment may be indicated as an emergency procedure in the event of a fracture, or as a scheduled procedure in case of patient functional impairment due to many causes, such as persistent pain, complex bone deformities, and degenerative arthropathies. In all cases, a multidisciplinary approach is recommended.

Comparative safety and effectiveness of oral anticoagulants in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and high risk of gastrointestinal bleeding: A nationwide French cohort study.

Background: This observational study compared effectiveness and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs; apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran) or vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) at high risk for gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB).

Methods: Anticoagulant-naïve adults with NVAF with ≥1 GIB risk factor, initiating anticoagulant treatment January 2016-December 2019, and covered by the French national health data system were eligible. Outcomes included major bleeding (MB) and stroke/systemic embolism (SE).

Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) is a severe myeloid malignancy with limited therapeutic options. Single-cell analysis of clonal architecture demonstrates early clonal dominance with few residual WT hematopoietic stem cells. Circulating myeloid cells of the leukemic clone and the cytokines they produce generate a deleterious inflammatory climate.

Intravenous thrombolysis plus tirofiban versus tirofiban alone in Caucasian patients with acute anterior choroidal or paramedian pontine infarction.

Background: Tirofiban has been shown to be superior to aspirin in achieving functional independence at 3 months for acute ischemic stroke of atheromatous or microatheromatous origin. As intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) has previously been shown to be nonsuperior to aspirin in achieving functional independence at 3 months for anterior choroidal or paramedian pontine infarction (ACI/PPI), we aimed to compare the outcomes of Caucasian patients receiving IVT plus tirofiban (IVT + T) with those receiving tirofiban alone for acute ACI/PPI.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in patients aged ≥ 18 years with ACI/PPI treated in our stroke unit between December 1, 2020, and April 30, 2023, who received therapeutic intervention within 9 hours of symptom onset or after awakening with stroke symptoms.

Pilot study protocol evaluating the impact of telerobotics interactions with autistic children during a Denver intervention on communication skills using single-case experimental design.

Introduction: For several years, studies have been conducted on the contribution of social robots as an intervention tool for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). One of the early intervention models recommended by the French National Authority for Health is the Early Start Denver Model, an individualised, intensive programme based on play activities chosen by the child. While studies published in recent years suggest that robots provide benefits for autistic children in learning social interactions within a clinical setting, there is no scientific consensus on the widespread contribution and maintenance of their effects over time.

Transition from pediatric to adult care system in patients with complex epilepsies: Necker model for transition evaluated on 70 consecutive patients.

Objective: Complex epilepsies such as epileptic and developmental encephalopathies require multidisciplinary care throughout life. A coordinated transition program is therefore essential to provide optimal support for patients leaving pediatric for adult care. The aim of this study is to describe and evaluate our transition program for complex epilepsies, focusing on the last step in this program, that is, the multidisciplinary transition day hospital (MTDH).

Challenges to ethical public engagement in research funding: a perspective from practice.

European research funding organizations (RFOs) are increasingly experimenting with public engagement in their funding activities. This case study draws attention to the challenges they face in preparing, implementing, and evaluating ethical public engagement in the context of setting funding priorities, formulating calls for proposals, and evaluating project proposals. We discuss challenges related to seven themes: (1) recruiting participants; (2) commitments and expectations; (3) meaningful dialogue and equal engagement; (4) accommodating vulnerability; (5) funding call formulations; (6) lack of expertise in engagement ethics; and (7) uncertainty, resource constraints, and external factors.

Working memory multicomponent model outcomes in individuals with traumatic brain injury: Critical review and meta-analysis.

Objective: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) often leads to cognitive impairments, particularly regarding working memory (WM). This meta-analysis aims to examine the impact of TBI on WM, taking into account moderating factors which has received little attention in previous research, such as severity of injury, the different domains of Baddeley's multi-component model, and the interaction between these two factors, as well as the interaction with other domains of executive functions.

Method: Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines, a systematic review and meta-analysis searched Google Scholar, PubMed, and PsycNET for studies with objective WM measures.

A second RUBCN variant associated with epileptic encephalopathy and neurodevelopmental delay.

The RUBCN gene encodes a widely expressed protein called Rubicon, the main function of which is to negatively regulate macroautophagy. A single homozygous pathogenic variant of the RUBCN gene has been reported to date in two unrelated consanguineous Saudi families with spinocerebellar ataxia autosomal recessive 15 (OMIM#613516). This variant is responsible for the deletion of the highly conserved Rubicon Homology (RH) domain, which is important for the colocalization of Rubicon with Rab7 in the late endosome.

Total Mesorectal Excision with New Robotic Platforms: A Scoping Review.

Colorectal surgery is one of the specialties that have significantly benefited from the adoption of robotic technology. Over 20 years since the first robotic rectal resection, the Intuitive Surgical Da Vinci system remains the predominant platform. The introduction of new robotic systems into the market has enabled the first documented total mesorectal excision (TME) using alternative platforms.

Pulmonary hypertension in patients carrying FLNA loss-of-function variants.

Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is an unusual complication of X-linked disease caused by loss-of-function (LOF) variants in the () gene. Patients with LOF may also present dysmorphic facial features, aortic dilation, thrombopenia, and periventricular nodular heterotopia (PVNH).

Methods: We reported clinical, functional, radiologic, and hemodynamic characteristics of patients with LOF variants and PH from the French PH Network.
