  • The Ritux 3 trial showed that rituximab is effective and safe as a first-line treatment for pemphigus, although long-term follow-up data was previously lacking.!* -
  • This 7-year follow-up study evaluated the long-term outcomes for patients treated with rituximab alongside prednisone versus those treated with prednisone alone, focusing on disease-free survival and relapse rates.!* -
  • Results indicated that 93% of patients in the rituximab group achieved complete remission without corticosteroids, showing significantly higher disease-free survival and lower relapse rates compared to the prednisone-only group.!*

Background: Many outcomes of high priority to patients and clinicians are infrequently and inconsistently reported across trials in chronic kidney disease (CKD), which generates research waste and limits evidence-informed decision making. We aimed to generate consensus among patients/caregivers and health professionals on critically important outcomes for trials in CKD prior to kidney failure and the need for kidney replacement therapy, and to describe the reasons for their choices.

Methods: This was an online two-round international Delphi survey.

Normal fetal development is critically dependent on optimal nutrient supply by the placenta, and placental amino acid transport has been demonstrated to be positively associated with fetal growth. Mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) is a positive regulator of placental amino acid transporters, such as System A. Oleic acid (OA) has been previously shown to have a stimulatory role on placental mTOR signaling and System A amino acid uptake in primary human trophoblast (PHT) cells.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with autoimmune gastritis (AIG) show higher rates of iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies compared to those with non-autoimmune gastritis (NAIG) and control groups.
  • Median vitamin B12 levels are significantly lower in AIG patients (367.5 pg/mL) than in NAIG (445.0 pg/mL) and controls (391.0 pg/mL), with deficiencies found in 13.3% of AIG cases versus only 1.5% and 2.8% in the other groups.
  • The study emphasizes the importance of screening and treating these micronutrient deficiencies in AIG patients, as they are at a higher risk for both vitamin B12 (OR:

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the impact of textured versus smooth shoe insoles on walking, foot sensation, and overall patient experiences in individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
  • Thirty participants wore either type of insole for 12 weeks, with assessments conducted at three intervals to measure gait patterns and self-reported outcomes.
  • Results showed no significant differences in walking ability or foot sensation between the two insole groups, indicating that textured insoles didn't improve outcomes for those with limited foot sensory loss, warranting further research on insole design.

Unravelling anisotropic nonlinear shear elasticity in muscles: Towards a non-invasive assessment of stress in living organisms.

J Mech Behav Biomed Mater

Laboratoire d'imagerie biomédicale multimodale (BioMaps), University Paris-Saclay, CEA, CNRS UMR 9011, Inserm UMR 1281, Orsay, F-91401, France. Electronic address:

Acoustoelasticity theory describes propagation of shear waves in uniaxially stressed medium and allows the retrieval of nonlinear elastic coefficients of tissues. In transverse isotropic medium such as muscles the theory leads to 9 different configurations of propagating shear waves (stress axis vs. fibers axis vs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effects of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions on lung cancer patients, comparing outcomes from 2020 with those from the same period in 2019.
  • Clinical characteristics were similar between the two groups, but 2020 patients were older and had more non-smokers.
  • Despite concerns, the lockdown did not negatively affect lung cancer management or long-term survival; instead, some patients saw improved outcomes, especially non-smokers and those receiving systemic therapies.

Article Synopsis
  • - Aortic stenosis (AS) severity is hard to assess due to inconsistent metrics, with flow state being crucial for accurate evaluation.
  • - A study analyzed two large cohorts (over 2,000 patients total) and found that both the dimensionless index (DI) and transvalvular flow rate (Q) were significant predictors of mortality in AS patients.
  • - The results suggest that using both DI and Q together could improve the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with aortic stenosis.

Background: In a period of change in the organization of primary care, Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) is presented as one of the solutions to health issues. Although the number of inter-professional interventions grounded in primary care increases in all developed countries, evidence on the effects of these collaborations on patient-centred outcomes is patchy. The objective of our study was to assess the effects of IPC grounded in the primary care setting on patient-centred outcomes.

In this monocentric prospective study, the influence on long-term outcomes of peripheral blood levels of monocytic-myeloid-derived suppressive cells (M-MDSC) was investigated in 56 patients with acute leukemia (myeloid  = 47; lymphoid  = 9) before and after (Days+60/+90) allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (Allo-HSCT). A risk of relapse was found to be associated with a level of pregraft M-MDSC above 1.4% by ROC curve analysis.

Clinical presentation, course, and prognosis of patients with mixed connective tissue disease: A multicenter retrospective cohort.

J Intern Med

April 2024

Department of Internal Medicine, National Reference Center for Rare Systemic Autoimmune Diseases, Hôpital Cochin, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, Université Paris Cité, Paris, France.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to better characterize the features and outcomes of a large population of patients with mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD).

Methods: We performed an observational retrospective multicenter cohort study in France. Patients who fulfilled at least one diagnostic criterion set for MCTD and none of the criteria for other differentiated CTD (dCTD) were included.

Objective: To describe frequency, intensity and impact of genito-urinary syndrome of menopause (GUSM) in breast cancer (BC) survivors receiving hormonotherapy (HT).

Methods: Web-based survey hosted on the Seintinelles website (database of patients and caregivers). Specific questionnaire of 43 questions, including sociodemographic characteristics, history of BC, characteristics of HT, side effects other than GUSM, symptoms of GUSM (frequency, intensity, treatment, and impact) and overall expectations regarding treatment.

The Camargue or Rhône delta is a coastal wetland in southern France of which parts formerly devoted to salt production are undergoing a renaturation process. This study assessed a multisensor approach to investigate the link between sediment size distribution, habitat development mapped with Worldview 2, flooding durations estimated with time series of SENTINEL 2 images and elevation modelled with a LIDAR point cloud in former saltworks. A Random Forest classification algorithm was used to map the vegetation distributions of Sarcocornia fruticosa and Arthrocnemum macrostachyum, main representatives of the NATURA 2000 "Mediterranean and thermo-Atlantic halophilous scrubs (Sarcocornetea fruticosi)" habitat on the site.

Background: Vascular anomalies (VAs) are increasingly being treated with PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway inhibitors. These drugs have immunosuppressive properties and thus theoretically overexpose patients to opportunistic infections, especially Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP). PJP prophylaxis use lacks consensus.

Axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi-cel) demonstrated superior efficacy compared to standard of care as second-line therapy in patients with high-risk relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B cell lymphoma (LBCL) considered eligible for autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT); however, in clinical practice, roughly half of patients with R/R LBCL are deemed unsuitable candidates for ASCT. The efficacy of axi-cel remains to be ascertained in transplant-ineligible patients. ALYCANTE, an open-label, phase 2 study, evaluated axi-cel as a second-line therapy in 62 patients with R/R LBCL who were considered ineligible for ASCT.
