The Asteraceae family has been of significant concern for ethnobotanical studies, thanks to its health-promoting properties linked to a plethora of bioactive compounds, among which phenolic compounds play a critical role. In this work, a workflow based on computational chemometrics was employed to assess the authenticity and biomarker search of five key Asteraceae species commonly employed in traditional medicine. The UHPLC-DAD-ESI/MS-MS phenolic profile of Asteraceae extracts was combined with the evaluation of several in vitro biological properties.

The article explores personal values among older adults in relation to their "offspring status." Erikson's theory of psychosocial development and Schwartz's theory of human values suggest a positive relationship between having offspring and prosocial values. We tested this hypothesis by comparing older adults who have none, one, or two generations of descendants: childless (with no descendants), grandchildless (with adult children and no grandchildren), and grandparents.

Foam rolling is widespread and deeply rooted in exercise practice. The optimal duration and role of this treatment still lack scientific consensus. A relatively novel foam rolling treatment that combines vibration during application targets different muscle characteristics that are not well understood.

Purpose: In recent years, many genes have been associated with male infertility; however, testing of monogenic forms has not yet been clinically implemented in the diagnosis of severe forms of idiopathic male infertility, as the diagnostic utility has not been established yet. The aim of this study was therefore to answer if the implementation of genetic testing for monogenic forms of male infertility could contribute to the clinical diagnosis of men with severe forms of idiopathic male infertility.
Materials And Methods: Based on the ClinGene curation protocol, we defined a panel of genes with sufficient evidence for the involvement with severe male infertility.

The helminth Trichinella spiralis, through its excretory-secretory (ES L1) products, induces immune regulatory mechanisms that modulate the host's immune response not only to itself, but also to bystander antigens, foreign or self in origin, which can result in the alleviation of inflammatory diseases. Under the influence of ES L1, dendritic cells (DCs) acquire a tolerogenic phenotype and the capacity to induce Th2 and regulatory responses. Since ES L1 products represent a complex mixture of proteins and extracellular vesicles (TsEVs) the aim of this study was to investigate the impact of TsEVs, isolated from ES L1 products, on phenotypic and functional characteristics of DCs and to elucidate whether TsEVs could reproduce the immunomodulatory effects of the complete ES L1 product.

Ergothioneine (ET), a dietary thione/thiol, is receiving growing attention for its possible benefits in healthy aging and metabolic resilience. Our study investigates ET's effects on healthspan in aged animals, revealing lifespan extension and enhanced mobility in Caenorhabditis elegans, accompanied by improved stress resistance and reduced age-associated biomarkers. In aged rats, ET administration enhances exercise endurance, muscle mass, and vascularization, concomitant with higher NAD levels in muscle.

The increase in plastic waste has evolved into a severe environmental crisis, which requires innovative recycling technologies to repurpose used plastic with adequate environmental protection. This review highlights the urgent need for innovative approaches to the treatment and degradation of post-use plastics. It investigates the promising role of biofilms in the biodegradation of polymers, especially for polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyurethane (PU), and polyethylene (PE).

This study integrates proteome analysis of human breast milk (HBM) from a homogeneous group of mothers who are of similar age and live in the same geographical area, along with an analysis of essential and potentially toxic elements in HBM in relation to lifestyle and environmental factors. This preliminary proteomic study, which examined 11 samples of HBM from lactating women, identified a total of 1619 proteins across all samples, revealing significant differences in proteomes influenced by lactation stages, parity, and exposure to tobacco smoke. The pilot study aimed to explore the feasibility of correlating certain proteins with several elements, considered as indicators of tobacco smoke and environmental influences on HBM.

The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) is a widely used self-report measure of subjective well-being, but studies of its measurement invariance across a large number of nations remain limited. Here, we utilised the Body Image in Nature (BINS) dataset-with data collected between 2020 and 2022 -to assess measurement invariance of the SWLS across 65 nations, 40 languages, gender identities, and age groups (N = 56,968). All participants completed the SWLS under largely uniform conditions.

In this study, we investigated the cytotoxic effect of highly soluble dextran-coated CeO nanoparticles on human fetal lung fibroblasts MRC-5. We examined individual nanoparticle-treated cells by Raman spectroscopy and analyzed Raman spectra using non-negative principal component analysis and k-means clustering. In this way, we determined dose-dependent differences between treated cells, which were reflected through the intensity change of lipid, phospholipid and RNA-related Raman modes.

Orchidectomy and estrogenization of the male represent a procedure that is applicable in sex reassignment or in prostate cancer therapy. This approach has an influence on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and thus affects cardiovascular function and metabolism. We utilized orchidectomized rats to evaluate the effects of estradiol on the structure and hormonal output of the adrenal gland.

Introduction: The fact that inclusive education has existed in Bosnia and Herzegovina for twenty years opens the question of how it affects typically developing children, among other things. This paper aims to examine the differences in general knowledge and mathematics of typically developing students with regard to whether they attend classes that include students with intellectual disabilities or not, as well as to determine the relationship of their knowledge with teachers' characteristics and the inclusiveness of schools they attend.
Methods: The sample included 331 students from 18 regular elementary school classes.

Introduction: The relationship between brain activity and respiration is recently attracting increasing attention, despite being studied for a long time. Respiratory modulation was evidenced in both single-cell activity and field potentials. Among EEG and intracranial measurements, the effect of respiration was prevailingly studied on amplitude/power in all frequency bands.

Science is crucial for evidence-based decision-making. Public trust in scientists can help decision makers act on the basis of the best available evidence, especially during crises. However, in recent years the epistemic authority of science has been challenged, causing concerns about low public trust in scientists.
