Does the transfer of knowledge from the pioneer generation to the second-generation speed-up the learning curve of robot-assisted partial nephrectomies? TRANSFER trial (UroCCR n°83).

Objectives: The objective is to compare the learning curves between two pioneer and three second-generation surgeons for RAPN in terms of WIT, CD and positive surgical margins.

Materials And Methods: The charts of consecutive RAPNs of three centres were reviewed from the UroCCR prospective database. The experience was assessed by a regression model for each group.

Real-world usage and effectiveness of recombinant factor IX Fc in haemophilia B from the B-SURE study in France.

Background: More real-world data are needed to complement existing phase III studies on the efficacy and safety of recombinant factor IX Fc fusion protein (rFIXFc) in people with haemophilia B.

Objectives: We report final data from the B-SURE study, evaluating the real-world usage and effectiveness of rFIXFc in France.

Methods: Previously treated patients (all ages/severities) received on-demand or prophylactic rFIXFc during B-SURE.

Psychometric Validation of the Hemophilia Functional Ability Scoring Tool (Hemo-FAST).

Background:  The Hemophilia Functional Ability Scoring Tool (Hemo-FAST), consisting of a patient-reported outcome (PRO) part and a clinician-reported outcome (ClinRO) part, was developed as a rapid and effective tool to assess functional mobility in clinical practice. This study (NCT04731701) aimed to validate the psychometric properties of Hemo-FAST for assessment of joint health in people with haemophilia (PwH).

Methods:  PwH A or B aged ≥18 years completed questionnaires including the PRO part of Hemo-FAST and the short-form 36 health survey (SF-36) during one study visit.

A randomized trial comparing endovascular and surgical management of ruptured intracranial aneurysms excluded from previous trials.

Objective: Many patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms (RIAs) underrepresented or excluded from previous randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing surgery with endovascular treatment (EVT) are still considered for surgical clipping, but the best management of these patients remains unknown.

Methods: The International Subarachnoid Aneurysm Trial-2 was a randomized trial comparing surgical versus EVT of RIAs considered for surgical clipping, despite the results of previous RCTs, and also eligible for EVT. The primary endpoint was death or dependency according to the modified Rankin Scale score (mRS score > 2) at 1 year.

Familial History in Ovarian Teratomas Is a Frequent Event: 22 Years' Experience at a Single Center.

Background: Ovarian mature teratoma represents the most common benign neoplasm among pediatric germ cell tumors. This study reports the prevalence and characteristics of familial forms identified in a single center over 22 years in order to better understand possible familial predispositions to ovarian teratoma.

Methods: The records of all patients who were surgically treated for ovarian teratoma between 2000 and 2022 were retrospectively reviewed.

Balloon atrioseptostomy for transposition of the great arteries in Europe: characteristics and outcomes.

Introduction And Objectives: Balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) improves oxygenation in neonates with transposition of the great arteries (TGA) and restrictive foramen ovale. Currently, there is a global shortage of dedicated BAS catheters, while new unmarked catheters have recently become available at some European centers. This study aimed to characterize BAS outcomes using the currently available BAS catheters in Europe.

The Effects of Antioxidant Cocktail on Ophthalmological Changes Induced by a 60-Day Head-Down Bed Rest in a Randomized Trial.

Neuro-ophthalmological changes have been reported after prolonged exposure to microgravity; however, the pathophysiology remains unclear. Furthermore, several countermeasures have been suggested to counteract the side effects of microgravity. The objectives of the present study were twofold: (1) to assess the neuro-ophthalmological impact of 60 days of head-down bed rest (HDBR) and (2) to determine the potential effects of an antioxidant cocktail.

Pulmonary Consequences of Surgical Treatment in Children's Primary Lung Tumors: A National Retrospective Study.

Background And Aims: Primary lung tumors (PLTs) in children are rare, and surgery remains the key to ensure remission. Here we describe the PLTs clinical characteristics, their management, and the pulmonary outcome following surgery.

Methods: We carried out a French national cohort of pediatric PLTs from 2013 to 2023 from the FRACTURE rare pediatric tumors national database.

Surgical Management of Intracerebral Hemorrhage: New Light on the Horizon?

After 30 years of disappointment, 2 randomized controlled trials investigating the effect of neurosurgical treatment on functional outcome in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage were published in 2024. The ENRICH trial (Early Minimally Invasive Removal of Intracerebral Hemorrhage) studied the efficacy of early minimally invasive hematoma removal in patients with lobar or anterior basal ganglia intracerebral hemorrhage, whereas the SWITCH trial investigated the effect of decompressive craniectomy without hematoma removal in severe deep intracerebral hemorrhage. In this critique article, we will discuss the main findings of these trials, their implications and future perspectives.

Nanopore Sequencing as a Cutting-Edge Technology for Medulloblastoma Classification.

Background: Medulloblastoma (MB) is one of the most prevalent embryonal malignant brain tumors. Current classification organizes these tumors into four molecular subgroups (WNT, SHH, Group 3, and Group 4 MB). Recently, a comprehensive classification has been established, identifying numerous subtypes, some of which exhibit a poor prognosis.

Expert consensus on workflow of PET/CT with long axial field-of-view.

Purpose: Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging has been widely used in clinical practice. Long axial field-of-view (LAFOV) systems have enhanced clinical practice by leveraging their technological advantages and have emerged as the new state-of-the-art PET imaging modalities. A consensus was conducted to explore expert views in this emerging field to comprehensively elucidate the proposed workflow in LAFOV PET/CT examinations and highlight the potential challenges inherent in the workflow.

Comparison of surgical management and outcomes of acute right colic and sigmoid diverticulitis: a French national retrospective cohort study.

Background: Acute right colic diverticulitis (ARD) is less frequent in Western countries than acute sigmoid diverticulitis (ASD). We aimed to compare the management of ARD and ASD operated on in emergency.

Methods: All consecutive patients who had emergency surgery for ASD and ARD (2010-2021) were included in a retrospective, multicenter, cohort study.

Postoperative rectovaginal fistula: stoma may not be necessary-a French retrospective cohort.

Background: Postoperative rectovaginal fistula leads to a loss of patients' quality of life and presents significant challenges to the surgeon. The literature focusing specifically on postoperative rectovaginal fistulas is limited. The objective of the present study is to identify factors that can enhance the success of the management of this postoperative rectovaginal fistula.

Efficacy and safety of TPO receptor agonists in treatment of ITP associated with predominantly antibody deficiencies.

Predominantly antibody deficiencies have an estimated prevalence of >1 in 25 000. Their classical phenotype entails the association of autoimmune manifestations with increased susceptibility to infections. Up to 8% of these patients ultimately develop immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).

Review of definition and treatment of upper rectal cancer.

While the treatment of locally advanced lower and middle rectal cancer with total mesorectal excision (TME) after neoadjuvant therapy is now well defined, the treatment of locally advanced upper rectal cancer (LAURC) remains controversial. Although most teams and academic societies recommend upfront surgery (US) with partial mesorectal excision (PME), as this appears to be sufficient for these tumors, the literature remains conflicting regarding the additional use of neoadjuvant therapy and TME. Current recommendations for the treatment of LAURC do not reflect actual clinical practice.
