Objective: Gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) is the 17th most common cancer in the UK with a 5-year survival rate of 22%. GastroPanel (Biohit Oyj; Helsinki, Finland) is an ELISA kit that measures pepsinogen I (PGI); pepsinogen II (PGII); gastrin-17 (G-17); and Helicobacter pylori IgG antibodies (Hp IgG). PGI and the PGI/PGII ratio correlate inversely with the severity of chronic atrophic gastritis (AG).

Background: Preterm birth (PTB) and small-for-gestational-age (SGA) disproportionately affect women who are Black or Asian. Structural racism produces health inequalities. Identifying latent socioeconomic classes may help to understand the role socioeconomic position (SEP) plays in this inequality.

Objective: Size at birth is a key indicator of in utero growth. Our objective was to generate sex-specific percentiles for birth weight and head circumference in neonates born between 22 and 29 weeks gestation from pregnancies without hypertension or diabetes and assess differences between vaginal and caesarean births and between singletons and twins.
Methods: We used data from 12 countries participating in the International Network for Evaluating Outcomes in Neonates database from 2007 to 2021.

Baricitinib, a JAK 1/2 inhibitor, is approved for treating severe alopecia areata (AA). This study aimed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness and safety of baricitinib in a real-world setting over 52 weeks. This multicenter retrospective study included 96 adult patients diagnosed with severe AA from 11 Italian Dermatology Units.

Background: Advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) presents significant treatment challenges, with limited effective therapies for late-stage patients. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of adding thermal ablation (TA) in treatment regimens for advanced NSCLC to improve survival outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at a medical center in Taiwan, analyzing data from 1,083 patients diagnosed with stage IIIB or IV NSCLC between 2008 and 2020.

Background/aims: There are no hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance recommendations for non-viral chronic liver diseases (CLD), such as metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). We explored the Steatosis-Associated Fibrosis Estimator (SAFE) score to predict HCC in MASLD and other CLD etiologies.
Methods: Patients with various CLDs were included from medical centers in Taiwan.

Idiopathic nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (iNSIP) is recognized as a distinct entity among various types of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIP). It is identified histologically by the nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) pattern. A diagnosis of iNSIP is feasible once secondary causes or underlying diseases are ruled out.

Prostate cancer is a significant cause of cancer-related deaths in men. Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) have been shown to improve progression-free survival, especially in patients with BRCA1/2 mutations and deficiencies in homologous recombination repair (HRR). We conducted systematic reviews and meta-analyses and found that PARPi, combined with androgen receptor inhibitors, significantly improved overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in BRCA1/2-mutant and HRR-deficient patients.

Epilepsy is a neurological disease characterized by unprovoked recurrent epileptic seizures. Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the commonest type of focal epilepsy in adults that resist to the conventional anti-seizure medications (ASMs). Interestingly, ASMs do not affect the epileptogenesis and progression of disease.

Background And Purpose: Late toxicity is substantial after chemotherapy for anal cancer. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between radiation dose to lower urinary tract sub-structures and the risk of late urinary toxicities, in patients with anal cancer treated with chemoradiotherapy or radiotherapy.
Materials And Methods: From 2015 to 2021, 314 patients with localized anal cancer were included in a national prospective registration study.

Background: In adults, the conus medullaris( CM) tip usually terminates at the mid aspect of the L1 vertebra. However, variations exist. Beside the location, differences in the CM's shape are believed to be closely related to neurological conditions.

Background And Aims: Guidelines suggest non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) be conveyed to cardiac arrest centres (CAC). We hypothesised that (a) a pre-hospital conveyance algorithm based on initial presenting rhythm following OHCA is feasible and (b) that would demonstrate survival advantage.
Methods: This observational pilot study included all consecutive patients with OHCA from suspected cardiac aetiology from the county of Essex, United Kingdom from April 2022-April 2023.

Background: Hyperkalaemia is a life-threatening electrolyte disturbance and also a potential cause of cardiac arrest. The objective was to assess the effects of acute pharmacological interventions for the treatment of hyperkalaemia in patients with and without cardiac arrest.
Methods: The review was reported according to PRISMA guidelines and registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023440553).

Local anesthetic (LA)-induced peripheral nerve block (PNB) is an important part of multimodal analgesia to reduce postoperative pain, accelerate postoperative recovery, and improve clinical prognosis. The duration of LA depends on anesthetics, and the repeated nerve positioning, puncture injection or indwelling catheter is often required to prolong the effect of PNB. In this study, the genipin, was used to crosslink gelatin-based hydrogel, and then co-loaded with indocyanine green (ICG) and lidocaine as an LA-controlled release system (ICG@Lido/Gel and ICG@Lido/gGel).

Radiation-resistant bacteria are of great application potential in various fields, including bioindustry and bioremediation of radioactive waste. However, how radiation-resistant bacteria combat against invading phages is seldom addressed. Here, we present a series of crystal structures of a sensor and an effector of the cyclic oligonucleotide-based anti-phage signaling system (CBASS) from a radioresistant bacterium Deinococcus wulumuqiensis.
