Cancer stem cells (CSCs) play a crucial role in tumor initiation, recurrence, metastasis, and drug resistance. However, the current understanding of CSCs in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains incomplete. Through a comprehensive analysis of the database, it has been observed that 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR), a critical enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis, is up-regulated in HCC tissues and liver CSCs.

Re-epithelialization is an important step in skin wound healing, referring to the migration, proliferation, and differentiation of keratinocytes around the wound. During this process, the edges of the wound begin to form new epithelial cells, which migrate from the periphery of the wound towards the center, gradually covering the entire wound area. These newly formed epithelial cells proliferate and differentiate, ultimately forming a protective layer over the exposed dermal surface.

Background: Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) test in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) can help physicians provide target therapies for patients harboring ALK gene rearrangement. This study aimed to investigate the real-world test patterns and positive rates of ALK gene rearrangements in advanced NSCLC.
Methods: In this real-world study (ChiCTR2000030266), patients with advanced NSCLC who underwent an ALK rearrangement test in 30 medical centers in China between October 1, 2018 and December 31, 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.

Aims: Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 3 (SCA3) is a rare genetic ataxia that impacts the entire brain and is characterized as a neurodegenerative disorder affecting the neural network. This study explores how alterations in the functional hierarchy, connectivity, and structural changes within specific brain regions significantly contribute to the heterogeneity of symptom manifestations in patients with SCA3.
Methods: We prospectively recruited 51 patients with SCA3 and 59 age-and sex-matched healthy controls.

Cervical cancer poses a significant health burden for women globally, and the rapid proliferation of cervical cancer cells greatly worsens patient prognosis. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a crucial role in regulating tumor cell proliferation. However, the involvement of lncRNAs in cervical cancer cell proliferation remains unclear.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a complex mental disorder notable for traumatic experience memory. Although current first-line treatments are linked with clinically important symptom reduction, a large proportion of patients retained to experience considerable residual symptoms, indicating pathogenic mechanism should be illustrated further. Recent studies reported that newly formed myelin could shape neural circuit function and be implicated in fear memory preservation.

Vascular dementia (VaD) causes progressive cognitive decline in the elderly population, but there is short of available therapeutic measures. Microglia-mediated neuroinflammation is vigorously involved in the pathogenesis of VaD, but the traditional classification of microglial M1/M2 phenotypes remains restrictive and controversial. This study aims to investigate whether microglia transform into novel subtypes in VaD.

The regenerative ability of limb bones after injury decreases during aging, but whether a similar phenomenon occurs in jawbones and whether autophagy plays a role in this process remain unclear. Through retrospective analysis of clinical data and studies on a mouse model of jawbone defects, we confirmed the presence of delayed or impaired bone regeneration in the jawbones of old individuals and mice. Subsequently, osteoblasts (OBs) derived from mouse jawbones were isolated, showing reduced osteogenesis in senescent osteoblasts (S-OBs).

Sepsis is a disorder of the immune response to infection or infectious factors with high morbidity and mortality in clinical settings. The lactylation of lysine residues, fueled by lactate, plays a pivotal role in its pathophysiology. In conducting a literature review on sepsis-related research, we employed a systematic approach to ensure comprehensiveness and accuracy.

Background: Disruptions in calcium homeostasis are associated with a wide range of diseases, and play a pivotal role in the development of cancer. However, the construction of prognostic models using calcium extrusion-related genes in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) has not been well studied. We aimed to identify whether calcium extrusion-related genes serve as a potential prognostic biomarker in the COAD progression.

Hematopoiesis represents a meticulously regulated and dynamic biological process. Genetic aberrations affecting blood cells, induced by various factors, frequently give rise to hematological tumors. These instances are often accompanied by a multitude of abnormal post-transcriptional regulatory events, including RNA alternative splicing, RNA localization, RNA degradation, and storage.

Basi-parallel anatomic scanning has been widely used for assessing the vascular morphology of vertebral basilar arteries. Previous studies have demonstrated its efficacy in evaluating the morphology of the MCA, which we refer to as MCA parallel anatomic scanning MR imaging (MCPAS). In this study, we present our experience with the application of MCPAS in patients with MCA occlusion.

Müller glia, as prominent glial cells within the retina, plays a significant role in maintaining retinal homeostasis in both healthy and diseased states. In lower vertebrates like zebrafish, these cells assume responsibility for spontaneous retinal regeneration, wherein endogenous Müller glia undergo proliferation, transform into Müller glia-derived progenitor cells, and subsequently regenerate the entire retina with restored functionality. Conversely, Müller glia in the mouse and human retina exhibit limited neural reprogramming.

Background And Aims: Inflammatory response is crucial for bile acid (BA)-induced cholestatic liver injury, but molecular mechanisms remain to be elucidated. Solute Carrier Family 35 Member C1 (SLC35C1) can transport Guanosine diphosphate-fucose into the Golgi to facilitate protein glycosylation. Its mutation leads to the deficiency of leukocyte adhesion and enhances inflammation in humans.
