Anatomical relationship between the omohyoid muscle and the internal jugular vein on ultrasound guidance.

BMC Anesthesiol

June 2022

Department of Anesthesiology, the First People's Hospital of Huzhou, the Affiliated Hospital of Huzhou Teachers College, Guangchanghou Road 158th, 313000, Huzhou, People's Republic of China.

Background: Internal jugular vein catheterization is widely used in clinical practice, and there are many related studies on internal jugular vein catheterization. However, the omohyoid muscle, which is adjacent to the internal jugular vein, is a rarely mentioned muscle of the infrahyoid muscles group. The purpose of this study is to explore the anatomical relationship between the omohyoid muscle and the internal jugular vein on ultrasound guidance and provide a theoretical reference for jugular puncture and catheterization.

Serum Metabolomics Benefits Discrimination Kidney Disease Development in Type 2 Diabetes Patients.

Front Med (Lausanne)

May 2022

Kidney Disease Center, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Background: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the primary cause of end-stage renal disease, raising a considerable burden worldwide. Recognizing novel biomarkers by metabolomics can shed light on new biochemical insight to benefit DKD diagnostics and therapeutics. We hypothesized that serum metabolites can serve as biomarkers in the progression of DKD.

Osteosarcoma is a type of highly aggressive bone tumor arising from primitive cells of mesenchymal origin in adults and is associated with a high rate of tumor relapse. However, there is an urgent need to clarify the molecular mechanisms underlying osteosarcoma development. The present study performed integrated bioinformatics analysis in a single-cell RNA sequencing dataset and explored the potential interactive signaling pathways associated with osteosarcoma development.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is currently one of the severe complications leading to blindness, and computer-aided, diagnosis technology-assisted DR grading has become a popular research trend especially for the development of deep learning methods. However, most deep learning-based DR grading models require a large number of annotations to provide data guidance, and it is laborious for experts to find subtle lesion areas from fundus images, making accurate annotation more expensive than other vision tasks. In contrast, large-scale unlabeled data are easily accessible, becoming a potential solution to reduce the annotating workload in DR grading.

Opioids are the last option for the pharmacological treatment of neuropathic pain, but their antinociceptive effects are limited. Decreased mu opioid receptor (MOR) expression in the peripheral nervous system may contribute to this. Here, we showed that nerve injury induced hypermethylation of the gene promoter and an increased expression of methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2) in injured dorsal root ganglion (DRG).

Emerging data have revealed that CD95 can evoke non-apoptotic signals, thereby promoting pro-inflammatory functions that link to the severity of autoimmune disorders. Here, we reported that the expression of CD95 in CD4 effector memory T (CD4 TEM) cells was increased in myasthenia gravis (MG) patients. We also found increased expression of CD95 in CD4 TEM cells from MG patients correlated positively with clinical severity scores (QMGs), serum IL-17 levels and plasma cells (PCs) frequencies.
