Proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal IgG Lambda deposits caused by plasmablastic lymphoma: a case report.

BMC Nephrol

October 2023

Department of Nephrology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Huzhou Teachers College, the First People's Hospital of Huzhou, Huzhou, 313000, Zhejiang, P.R. China.

Introduction: As a very rare form of B-cell lymphoma, plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) typically occurs in patients with underlying immunosuppression, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), organ transplantation, and autoimmune diseases. For HIV-positive patients, PBL normally originates in the gastrointestinal tract, especially from the oral cavity in most cases. It is extremely rare to find abdominal cavity involvement in PBL, and there has been no previously reported instance of proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal immunoglobulin deposits (PGNMID) attributed to monoclonal IgG (MIgG) lambda secreted by PBL.

Renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury leads to irreversible brain damage with serious consequences. Activation of oxidative stress and release of inflammatory mediators are considered potential pathological mechanisms. Butylphthalide (NBP) has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on I/R injuries.

Background: The reconstruction of tendons with large defects requires grafts with high mechanical strength and is often hindered by complications such as infection and adhesion. Hence, grafts combining the advantages of mechanical resilience and antibacterial/antiadhesion activity are highly sought after.

Methods: The silver nanoparticles (GA-Ag NPs) synthesized from gallic acid and silver nitrate were attached to a decellularized extracellular matrix (Decellularized Tendon crosslinking GA-AgNPs, DT-Ag).

Introduction: Intelligent recognition of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals can remarkably improve the accuracy of epileptic seizure prediction, which is essential for epileptic diagnosis. Extreme learning machine (ELM) has been applied to EEG signals recognition, however, the artifacts and noises in EEG signals have a serious effect on recognition efficiency. Deep learning is capable of noise resistance, contributing to removing the noise in raw EEG signals.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of nursing intervention based on protection motivation theory (PMT) on patients with respiratory diseases in the context of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Methods: A total of 74 patients with respiratory diseases who were hospitalized from June 2020 to February 2021 were enrolled and stratified into a control group (n = 37) and an experimental group (n = 37) according to a stratified random sampling method. The control group adopted a routine nursing intervention program of the respiratory department, whereas the experimental group received a PMT-based nursing intervention program on the basis of the control group.

Acupuncture improves immunity and fatigue after chemotherapy in breast cancer patients by inhibiting the Leptin/AMPK signaling pathway.

Support Care Cancer

August 2023

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, The First People's Hospital of Huzhou, No. 158, Guangchang Hou Road, Huzhou, 313000, Zhejiang, People's Republic of China.

Objective: Acupuncture has become a popular complementary treatment in oncology. This study is based on RNA-Seq transcriptome sequencing technology to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the effect of acupuncture-mediated regulation of the Leptin/AMPK signaling pathway on mitochondrial dysfunction-induced fatigue in breast cancer patients after chemotherapy.

Methods: Peripheral blood samples from 10 patients with post-operative chemotherapy for breast cancer were selected for transcriptome sequencing to screen the key molecular pathways involved in fatigue after chemotherapy in breast cancer patients.

Department of Gastroenterology, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, 310016, China; Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, 310016, China; Institute of Immunology, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, 310058, Hangzhou, China; The Key Laboratory for Immunity and Inflammatory Diseases of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou, 310058, China. Electronic address:

Ferroptosis has emerged to be a promising approach in cancer therapies; however, colorectal cancer (CRC) is relatively insensitive to ferroptosis. Exactly how the gut microenvironment impacts the ferroptotic sensitivity of CRC remains unknown. Herein, by performing metabolomics, we discovered that butyrate concentrations were significantly decreased in CRC patients.

Opportunities and challenges of incretin-based hypoglycemic agents treating type 2 diabetes mellitus from the perspective of physiological disposition.

Acta Pharm Sin B

June 2023

Center for Drug Safety Evaluation and Research, Zhejiang Province Key Laboratory of Anti-Cancer Drug Research, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310007, China.

The treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus, which is characterized by defective insulin secretion and/or the inability of tissues to respond to insulin, has been studied for decades. Many studies have focused on the use of incretin-based hypoglycemic agents in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). These drugs are classified as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which mimic the function of GLP-1, and DPP-4 inhibitors, which avoid GLP-1 degradation.

Development potential of extracellular matrix hydrogels as hemostatic materials.

Front Bioeng Biotechnol

June 2023

Department of Orthopedics, The First People's Hospital of Huzhou, First Affiliated Hospital of Huzhou University, Huzhou, Zhejiang, China.

The entry of subcutaneous extracellular matrix proteins into the circulation is a key step in hemostasis initiation after vascular injury. However, in cases of severe trauma, extracellular matrix proteins are unable to cover the wound, making it difficult to effectively initiate hemostasis and resulting in a series of bleeding events. Acellular-treated extracellular matrix (ECM) hydrogels are widely used in regenerative medicine and can effectively promote tissue repair due to their high mimic nature and excellent biocompatibility.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of bioactive scaffolds that deliver growth factors over time to improve the healing of the bone-to-tendon interface (BTI) after rotator cuff repair.
  • Conducted on 50 rabbits with chronic rotator cuff tears, the research compares outcomes between groups receiving saline, scaffolds without growth factors, and scaffolds with growth factors.
  • Results show that scaffolds with growth factors led to significantly better healing, with higher mRNA expression of important collagen types, improved matrix formation, and stronger mechanical properties at the BTI compared to the other treatments.

Article Synopsis
  • BMSC transplantation has poor effectiveness in treating spinal cord injuries (SCI) due to a challenging microenvironment characterized by inflammation and oxidative stress.
  • Hydrogen exhibits antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which may enhance the survival and function of transplanted BMSCs, leading to better treatment outcomes for SCI.
  • The study found that combining hydrogen with BMSC transplantation significantly improved neurological recovery in rat models, suggesting that hydrogen can help in overcoming the limitations of BMSC therapy by promoting cell proliferation, migration, and overall viability.

Nat Commun

April 2023

MOE Laboratory of Biosystem Homeostasis and Protection, College of Life Sciences, Zhejiang University, 310058, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Iron metabolism dysregulation is tightly associated with cancer development. But the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Increasing evidence has shown that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in various metabolic processes via integrating signaling pathway.
