A novel copper-dependent mode of death, cuproptosis, has been newly identified. This study developed a cuproptosis score (CS) based on the cuproptosis model to analyse the association of CS with prognosis, immune cell infiltration, drug sensitivity and immunotherapy response in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. A typing model of cuproptosis was constructed based on the expression of 19 cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs).

Background Context: The management of metastatic spinal disease presents a complex challenge, with no universally accepted guidelines currently available. A new treatment approach, termed the "SENO" (Systemic Conditions, Effectiveness of Systemic Treatment, Neurology, and Oncology) decision framework, was developed, incorporating a 12-point grading system for epidural spinal cord compression.

Purpose: This study aims to assess the clinical efficacy of the SENO decision framework and compare its outcomes with those from traditional treatment frameworks.

Background: Osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) severely affect the quality of life in the aged population. Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) alleviates pain and stabilizes vertebrae, but suboptimal bone cement distribution can cause complications. Hence, this study aimed to clarify whether a new technique for PVP, using a curved guide wire, enhances the distribution of bone cement and improves clinical outcomes in patients with OVCF.

Bladder cancer stands as one of the prevalent malignancies in urological clinics, highlighting the pressing need to uncover prognostic or therapeutic avenues. ITM2A, a transmembrane protein, has been identified as a suppressor in tumor progression recently. Our study underscored a significant correlation between low ITM2A expression in bladder cancer tissues and high tumor grade, AJCC stage, and poor overall survival time.

Epigenetic modifications play an important role in cellular senescence, and enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is a key methyltransferase involved in epigenetic remodeling in multiple myeloma (MM) cells. We have previously demonstrated that GSK126, a specific EZH2 inhibitor, exhibits anti-MM therapeutic efficacy and safety and ; however, its specific mechanism remains unclear. This study shows that GSK126 induces cellular senescence in MM, which is characterized by the accumulation of senescence-associated heterochromatin foci (SAHF) and p21, and increased senescence-associated β galactosidase activity.

Background: Bladder cancer (BC) is one of the ten most common cancers worldwide with late detection and early age of diagnosis. There is abundant evidence that early detection and timely intervention can lead to a better prognosis of BC. Substantial evidence has indicated that microRNAs (miRNAs) are specific to different tumour types and are remarkably stable, indicating that serum miRNAs may serve as potential cancer diagnostic markers.

Background: Recent evidence links the prognosis of traumatic brain injury (TBI) to various factors, including baseline clinical characteristics, TBI specifics, and neuroimaging outcomes. This study focuses on identifying risk factors for short-term survival in severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) cases and developing a prognostic model.

Methods: Analyzing 430 acute sTBI patients from January 2018 to December 2023 at the 904th Hospital's Neurosurgery Department, this retrospective case-control study separated patients into survival outcomes: 288 deceased and 142 survivors.

Article Synopsis
  • Liver cancer is a major cause of death, largely due to metastasis and recurrence, with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) showing low levels of a protein called focal adhesion kinase (FAK), which is linked to these issues.
  • Research on FAK involved assessing its effect on HCC prognosis and metastasis using various experimental methods, revealing that degrading FAK can reduce cell migration and invasion.
  • The study found that using a technique called FAK PROTAC to degrade FAK not only hindered HCC spread but also influenced protein expressions related to cell transitions, suggesting potential new treatments for liver cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • Colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM) significantly affects patient prognosis, and understanding the associated mechanisms is crucial.
  • Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) play a critical role in immune modulation within the tumor microenvironment, yet their specific impact on CRLM is largely unexamined.
  • The study highlights that the absence of NLRP6 disrupts the immunosuppressive effects of M-MDSCs, suggesting a potential pathway for developing new therapies that could improve patient outcomes in CRLM.
