A heat stress response occurs when an endothermal animal is exposed to a heat load that challenges its' thermoregulation capacity.

This study examines how individuals assess administrative burdens and how these views change over time within the context of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which provides food to pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under age five. Using interview data from the Baby's First Years: Mothers' Voices study (n. = 80), we demonstrate how the circumstances of family life, shifiing food needs and preferences, and the receipt of other resources shape how mothers perceive the costs and benefits of program participation.

Training Indigenous Community Researchers for Community-Based Participatory Ethnographic Dementia Research: A Second-Generation Model.

Conducting community-based participatory research (CBPR) is a complex endeavor, particularly when training non-academic community members. Though examples of CBPR training programs and protocols have been published, they often address a limited set of concepts and are tailored for university or medical school students. Here, we describe the process of developing an online CBPR training program for American Indian (United States) and Indigenous (Canada) community members to conduct multi-sited ethnographic dementia research.

There is a norm in psychology to use causally ambiguous statistical language, rather than straightforward causal language, when describing methods and results of nonexperimental studies. Impact of Agent Orange Exposure on Non-muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer Outcomes.

Objective: To explore the effect of Agent Orange (AO) exposure on bladder cancer (BCa) outcomes in patients receiving Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) for non-muscle invasive BCa (NMIBC).

Methods: We retrospectively examined the association between AO exposure in patients with NMIBC in national veterans affairs databases who were being treated with BCG. Patients were diagnosed with NMIBC from 2000 to 2010 with follow-up through 2018.

Metastatic Cutaneous Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis in a Flat-Coated Retriever Treated with Doxorubicin and Prednisone.

A 2 yr old female intact flat-coated retriever dog was presented for evaluation of a histologically diagnosed cutaneous Langerhans cell histiocytosis of the muzzle with right mandibular nodal metastasis and suspected prescapular lymph node metastasis. Chemotherapy (lomustine 60 mg/m2 by mouth as a single dose) and glucocorticoid therapy (prednisone ∼20 mg/m2 by mouth every 24 hr) were initiated. Progressive disease occurred 21 days after lomustine administration.

Quantification of the Field of View for Standard Lateral Arthroscopy of the Canine Shoulder.

Objective:  The aim of this study was to define the extent of the biceps tendon, subscapularis tendon, and cranial border of the medial glenohumeral ligament within the field of view during standard lateral shoulder arthroscopy in the dog. We also examine the effect of joint flexion on the field of view of the biceps tendon.

Study Design:  This was a cadaveric study using 21 shoulders of large breed dogs.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to healthcare and public health messaging in the United States. Improving Domestic Violence Screening and Follow-Up in a Community Health Clinic.

Purpose: To implement an improved DV screening and follow-up protocol at a suburban community health clinic that is consistently used by staff with appropriate female patients as well as to assess provider/staff barriers to this.

Methods: The project was completed at a community health clinic and included 2 presentations: the first to outline current practices as well as the intervention plan at the pre-intervention time point and then to review results of the intervention and elicit feedback post intervention. Provider/staff barrier surveys were completed at both time points.

A multi-site trial of an electronic health integrated physical activity promotion intervention in breast and endometrial cancers survivors: MyActivity study protocol.

Despite the known benefits of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) for breast and endometrial cancer survivors, most are insufficiently active, interventions response is heterogeneous, and MVPA programming integration into cancer care is limited. A stepped care approach, in which the least resource-intensive intervention is delivered first and additional components are added based on individual response, is one strategy to enhance uptake of physical activity programming. A growing chorus of academicians, public health officials, and other science communicators have warned of what they see as an ill-informed public making poor personal or electoral decisions. Misinformation is often seen as an urgent new problem, so some members of these communities have pushed for quick but untested solutions without carefully diagnosing ethical pitfalls of rushed interventions. This article argues that attempts to "cure" public opinion that are inconsistent with best available social science evidence not only leave the scientific community vulnerable to long-term reputational damage but also raise significant ethical questions.

Exploiting PRMT5 as a target for combination therapy in mantle cell lymphoma characterized by frequent ATM and TP53 mutations.

Constant challenges for the treatment of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) remain to be recurrent relapses and therapy resistance, especially in patients harboring somatic mutations in the tumor suppressors ATM and TP53, which are accumulated as therapy resistance emerges and the disease progresses, consistent with our OncoPrint results that ATM and TP53 alterations were most frequent in relapsed/refractory (R/R) MCL. We demonstrated that protein arginine methyltransferase-5 (PRMT5) was upregulated in R/R MCL, which predicted a poor prognosis. PRMT5 inhibitors displayed profound antitumor effects in the mouse models of MCL with mutated ATM and/or TP53, or refractory to CD19-targeted CAR T-cell therapy.
