Article Synopsis
  • Researchers lack consensus on the ideal fluoride levels for health, prompting a study in Poland to assess dental fluorosis in regions with low fluoride in drinking water.
  • The study involved 696 young adults living in low-fluoride areas and found 12.8% exhibited varying degrees of dental fluorosis, evaluated using Dean’s Index.
  • Laboratory tests showed that enamel from affected teeth had significantly more protein and fluoride, and structural irregularities were noted, indicating that fluoride exposure from various sources needs careful monitoring despite low water levels.

This study aimed to determine the motives for undertaking prosthetic treatment at the Prosthetics Clinic of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS), pursued by fifth- and sixth-year medicine and dentistry students. The survey consisted of 18 questions, of which 1 to 11 concerned general patient data, while questions 12 to 18 concerned prosthetic treatment. The only open question in the questionnaire was one regarding the motives for the decision to receive treatment.

This prospective study examined a population of 520 urban and rural children aged 5 to 9 years. Every 2−4 weeks, the clinical symptoms accompanying primary tooth replacement such as a cough, a runny nose, pain, and body temperature were assessed in each child’s medical records. The authors were able to show in a statistically significant manner that the frequency, time, and type of cough were strongly related to the type of erupting teeth (p < 0.

Article Synopsis
  • Increased phosphorylated ERK and p38 MAPK levels in psoriatic skin suggest disrupted DUSP expression, prompting this study on DUSP mRNA and miRNA changes in keratinocyte cells exposed to lipopolysaccharide A (LPS).
  • The study found significant expression changes, particularly in DUSP2 and DUSP5 after treatment with adalimumab, and identified specific miRNAs that may regulate these DUSPs' expression levels.
  • The findings indicate DUSP2 and DUSP5 could serve as valuable molecular markers for diagnosing and monitoring psoriasis treatment, with several specific miRNAs influencing their expression patterns.

Background: Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is one of the main reasons for admission to the intensive care unit (ICU), which influences discharge in a good neurological state.

Hypothesis: To analyze patients who had recovery of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) during hospitalization in the ICU using the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS).

Methods: The study group comprised 78 patients after SCA (35 after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest [OHCA] and 43 after in-hospital cardiac arrest [IHCA]) with ROSC who were admitted to the ICU of Regional Hospital No.

Variances in the Expression Profile of the EMT-Related Genes in Endometrial Cancer Lines In Vitro Study.

Curr Pharm Biotechnol

January 2022

Department of Medical Genetics, School of Pharmacy with the Division of Laboratory Medicine, Medical University of Silesia, Jednosci 8, 41-200, Sosnowiec, Poland.

Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate the variances in the expression pattern of mRNAs and miRNAs related to the EMT in the Ishikawa (histological grade 1; G1), EC-1A (histological grade 2; G2), and KLE (histological grade 3; G3) cell cultures under cisplatin treatment.

Methods: Endometrial cancer cell lines were exposed to 75.22 mg (an average concentration of the drug used in patients with endometrial cancer) for 12.

Article Synopsis
  • Psoriasis is linked to increased levels of inflammatory markers like leptin and various interleukins, prompting the use of adalimumab, a monoclonal antibody, for treatment.
  • This study investigates how adalimumab affects leptin-related gene expression in human keratinocyte cells after exposure to an inflammatory agent, lipopolysaccharide A.
  • Results indicate that adalimumab significantly reduces the expression of leptin and its receptors, confirming that its therapeutic effects in psoriasis may operate through leptin-dependent pathways.

This research aimed to assess the impact of cisplatin, depending on the concentration and exposure time, on the expression pattern of leptin in an endometrial cancer cell line. Ishikawa endometrial cancer cell cultures were incubated with cisplatin, at concentrations of 2.5-10 µM, or leptin in the concentration range 10-40 ng/mL, and for durations of 12, 24 and 48 h compared with the control.
