Computerized techniques for Cardiotocograph (CTG) based labor stage classification would support obstetrician for advance CTG analysis and would improve their predictive power for fetal heart rate (FHR) monitoring. Cardiovascular disease is a pressing health problem with significant global health, societal, and financial burdens. Understanding the molecular basis of polygenic cardiac pathology is thus essential to devising novel approaches for management and treatment. While research has accelerated the development of new treatments for pediatric neurodegenerative disorders, the ability to demonstrate the long-term efficacy of these therapies has been hindered by the lack of convincing, noninvasive methods for tracking disease progression both in animal models and in human clinical trials. Here, we unveil a new translational platform for tracking disease progression in an animal model of a pediatric neurodegenerative disorder, CLN6-Batten disease. Instead of looking at a handful of parameters or a single "needle in a haystack", we embrace the idea that disease progression, in mice and patients alike, is a diverse phenomenon best characterized by a combination of relevant biomarkers.

To examine the potential association of single nucleotide variants of nucleoporin genes with cardiac disease, we employed a prognostic scoring approach to investigate variants of , a nucleoporin gene clinically linked with atrial fibrillation. Here we implemented bioinformatic profiling and predictive scoring, based on the gnomAD, National Heart Lung and Blood Institute-Exome Sequencing Project (NHLBI-ESP) Exome Variant Server, and dbNSFP databases to identify rare single nucleotide variants (SNVs) of potentially associated with cardiopathology.

We tested the hypothesis that injury to frontoparietal sensorimotor areas causes greater initial impairments in performance and poorer recovery of ipsilesional dexterous hand/finger movements than lesions limited to frontal motor areas in rhesus monkeys. Reaching and grasping/manipulation of small targets with the ipsilesional hand were assessed for 6-12 months post-injury using two motor tests. Initial post-lesion motor skill and long-term recovery of motor skill were compared in two groups of monkeys: (1) F2 group-five cases with lesions of arm areas of primary motor cortex (M1) and lateral premotor cortex (LPMC) and (2) F2P2 group-five cases with F2 lesions + lesions of arm areas of primary somatosensory cortex and the anterior portion of area 5.

Hyperbilirubinemia may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) but its mechanistic role in AD pathogenesis remains obscure. Here, we used animal models to investigate the short- and long-term effects of neonatal systemic exposure to bilirubin on brain histology and function as well as the acute effect of lateral ventricle injection of bilirubin in adult rats. We found that three days exposure to bilirubin in newborn rats could induce AD-like pathological changes in late life, including tau protein hyperphosphorylation at multiple sites, increased Aβ production in brain tissues, and spatial learning and memory injury.

Nucleoporins have been reported to regulate pluripotent biology, but how they do so remains partially characterized. This study examined the effects of nup155 gene disruption on mouse embryonic stem cells to gain insights into possible mechanisms by which nucleoporins regulate pluripotency in a pro-arrhythmogenic stem cell line. Embryonic stem cells with gene-trapped nup155 exhibited aberrant colony morphology underscored by abnormal transcriptome remodeling.

In this Forum Article, we review the development of chelating borohydride ligands called aminodiboranates (HBNRBH) and phosphinodiboranates (HBPRBH) for the synthesis of trivalent f-element complexes. The advantages and history of using mechanochemistry to prepare molecular borohydride complexes are described along with new results demonstrating the mechanochemical synthesis of M(HBPBuBH), where M = U, Nd, Tb, Er, and Lu (-). Multinuclear NMR, IR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction data are reported for - alongside complementary density functional theory calculations to reveal differences in their structure and reactivity with and without tetrahydrofuran.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), an incretin hormone, has diuretic and natriuretic effects. The present study was designed to explore the possible underlying mechanisms for the diuretic and natriuretic effects of GLP-1 via renal nerves in rats. Immunohistochemistry revealed that GLP-1 receptors were avidly expressed in the pelvic wall, the wall being adjacent to afferent renal nerves immunoreactive to calcitonin gene-related peptide, which is the dominant neurotransmitter for renal afferents.

Galectin-1 (Gal-1) is a 14 kDa protein that has been well characterized for promoting cancer metastasis and tumor immune evasion.
