As a powerful tool for biological sensing, electrochemical biosensors have attracted much attention due to their ability to integrate biological recognition elements on an electrochemical interface and convert target analyte information into measurable electrochemical signals. Despite the abundance of literature published on the topic, no comprehensive surveys have been conducted to evaluate the area of electrochemical biosensors with bibliometric techniques. This paper employs VOSviewer to analyze and visualize literature from 2003 to 2023 in the Web of Science in order to gain an understanding of the development of the field of electrochemical biosensors in recent years.

(group A streptococcus; GAS) causes a variety of invasive diseases (iGAS) such as bacteremia, toxic shock syndrome, and pneumonia, which are associated with high mortality despite the susceptibility of the bacteria to penicillin . Epidemiologic studies indicate that respiratory influenza virus infection is associated with an increase in the frequency of iGAS diseases, including those not directly involving the lung. We modified a murine model of influenza A (IAV)-GAS superinfection to determine if viral pneumonia increased the susceptibility of mice subsequently infected with GAS in the peritoneum.

Background: Whole blood transfusion has been used for resuscitation in trauma patients; however, case reports of whole blood transfusion for obstetric-related hemorrhage are limited. Whole blood transfusion typically is accomplished with low titer O-positive whole blood, and, despite success in trauma, use in persons with childbearing potential is of concern due to risk of alloimmunization.
Case: We present a case series of patients who received low titer O-positive whole blood for obstetric hemorrhage.

Objective: To examine the additive or moderating influences of caregiver COVID-19-related stress, social support, and discrimination on children's behavior problems across racially diverse populations.
Method: In this Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) cohort study (N = 1,999 caregiver/child pairs), we operationalized caregiver COVID-19-related stress in 2 ways: first, as the number of stressors (eg, financial concerns, social distancing); and second, as the level of pandemic-related traumatic stress symptoms reported via questionnaires administered between April 2020 and August 2022. At the same assessment visit, caregivers also reported their current levels of discrimination, and a subsample (n = 968) reported their emotional and instrumental support.

Background: The primary pathogenic cause of tooth loss in adults is periodontitis, although few reliable diagnostic methods are available in the early stages. One pathological factor that defines periodontitis pathology has previously been believed to be the equilibrium between inflammatory defense mechanisms and oxidative stress. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a model of oxidative stress-related periodontitis diagnostic markers through machine learning and bioinformatic analysis.

Affective functioning is central to most contemporary models of alcohol use. However, the affective structure at the within- and between-person levels is rarely investigated nor is the differential predictive value of specific affect dimensions assessed across state and trait formats. We examined a) the structure of state and trait affect using experience sampling methodology (ESM) and b) predictive associations between the empirically derived affect facets and alcohol use.

B cells occupy a vital role in the functioning of the immune system, working in tandem with T cells to either suppress or promote tumor growth within the tumor microenvironment(TME). In addition to direct cell-to-cell communication, B cells and other cells release exosomes, small membrane vesicles ranging in size from 30-150 nm, that facilitate intercellular signaling. Exosome research is an important development in cancer research, as they have been shown to carry various molecules such as major histocompatibility complex(MHC) molecules and integrins, which regulate the TME.

Volume reflex produces sympatho-inhibition that is mediated by the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN). However, the mechanisms for the sympatho-inhibitory role of the PVN and the neurochemical factors involved remain to be identified. In this study, we proposed C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) as a potential mediator of this sympatho-inhibition within the PVN.

Mild traumatic brain injuries (mild TBIs) commonly occur in young adults of both sexes, oftentimes in high-stress environments. In humans, sex differences have been observed in the development of post-concussive anxiety and PTSD-like behaviors. Progesterone, a sex steroid that has neuroprotective properties, restores cognitive function in animal models following more severe TBI, but its effectiveness in preventing the psychological symptoms associated with mild TBI has not been evaluated.

While it is well appreciated that maternal immunity can provide neonatal protection, the contribution of maternal vaccination toward generating such immunity is not well characterized. In our previous work, we created a candidate influenza vaccine using our chimeric hemagglutinin (HA) construct, HA-129. The HA-129 was expressed as part of a whole-virus vaccine that was built on the A/swine/Texas/4199-2/98-H3N2 backbone to generate the recombinant virus TX98-129.

Mortalin (GRP75, HSPA9A), a heat shock protein (HSP), regulates a wide range of cellular processes, including cell survival, growth, and metabolism. The regulatory functions of mortalin are mediated through a diverse set of protein partners associated with different cellular compartments, which allows mortalin to perform critical functions under physiological conditions, including mitochondrial protein quality control. However, alteration of mortalin's activities, its abnormal subcellular compartmentalization, and its protein partners turn mortalin into a disease-driving protein in different pathological conditions, including cancers.

The presence of non-biomedical foreign objects (NBFO), such as coins, buttons and jewelry, and biomedical foreign objects (BFO), such as medical tubes and devices in chest X-rays (CXRs), make accurate interpretation difficult, as they do not indicate known biological abnormalities like excess fluids, tuberculosis (TB) or cysts. Such foreign objects need to be detected, localized, categorized as either NBFO or BFO, and removed from CXR or highlighted in CXR for effective abnormality analysis. Very specifically, NBFOs can adversely impact the process, as typical machine learning algorithms would consider these objects to be biological abnormalities producing false-positive cases.

Mild traumatic brain injuries (mild TBIs) can affect both males and females, but females are more likely to report long-term psychological complications, including changes in mood and generalized anxiety. Additionally, reproductive cycle phase has been shown to affect mild TBI symptom expression within females. These variances may result from sex differences in mild TBI-induced alterations to neurotransmission in brain regions that influence mood and emotion, possibly mediated by sex steroids.
