Background: Understanding variables that influence therapy outcomes can improve the results of interventions and reduce socio-health costs. The current study examined possible predictors and moderators of outcome (age, gender, duration of panic disorder, motivation to change, conscientiousness, and experiential avoidance) in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Method: Eighty participants with a diagnosis of panic disorder, 56 women and 24 men, with an average age of 38 years, received 12 group sessions of CBT or ACT.

Infection with Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is a prerequisite for the development of several human cancers, including Kaposi sarcoma and primary effusion lymphoma. Efficient long-term infection with KSHV and subsequent virally induced cell transformation is limited to humans, resulting in a lack of small animal models for KSHV-driven malignancies. Various attempts to create a mouse model for KSHV include infection of humanized mice, generating transgenic mice that ectopically express viral proteins, and grafting KSHV-infected tumor, primary, or immortalized cells onto immunodeficient mice.

This perspective examines the multifaceted biological principles that provide olfactory systems their discriminatory prowess, and how these ideas can be ported to the design of electronic noses for substantial improvements in performance across metrics such as sensitivity and ability to speciate chemical mixtures.

The carboxyl terminus of Hsc70-interacting protein (CHIP) is pivotal for managing misfolded and aggregated proteins via chaperone networks and degradation pathways. In a preclinical rodent model of CHIP-related ataxia, we observed that CHIP mutations lead to increased levels of phosphodiesterase 9A (PDE9A), whose role in this context remains poorly understood. Here, we investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the role of PDE9A in CHIP-related ataxia and demonstrated that CHIP binds to PDE9A, facilitating its polyubiquitination and autophagic degradation.

Objective: As the COVID-19 pandemic presented new challenges for businesses and worker safety and health, an interdisciplinary team launched the COVID-19 Worksite Impact Survey to assess COVID-19-related impacts and responses at small and medium businesses in 10 North Carolina counties.

Methods: We collected data from October 2 to December 1, 2020, and analyzed survey results to evaluate businesses' operational changes, concerns, needs, pandemic preparedness, workplace health promotion programming, and infection control practices.

Results: Most businesses, including essential ones, were inadequately prepared for the pandemic and did not implement the most effective COVID-19 infection control practices.

Objective: Digital behavior change interventions can successfully promote change in behavioral outcomes, but often suffer from steep decreases in engagement over time, which hampers their effectiveness. Providing feedback on goal performance is an established technique to promote goal attainment; however, theory indicates that sending goal-discrepant feedback messages could cause some users to respond more negatively than others. This analysis assessed whether goal-discrepant messaging was negatively associated with participant engagement, and if this relationship was exacerbated by baseline depressive symptoms within the context of a three-month weight loss pilot mHealth intervention.

While the conformational ensembles of disordered peptides and peptidomimetics are complex and challenging to characterize, they are a critical component in the paradigm connecting macromolecule sequence, structure, and function. In molecules that do not adopt a single predominant conformation, the conformational ensemble contains rich structural information that, if accessible, can provide a fundamental understanding related to desirable functions such as cell penetration of a therapeutic or the generation of tunable enzyme-mimetic architecture. Whole genome codon compression-the reassignment of all instances of a specific codon to synonymous codons-can generate organisms capable of tolerating knockout of otherwise essential transfer RNAs (tRNAs). As a result, such knockout strains enable numerous unique applications, such as high-efficiency production of DNA encoding extremely toxic genes or non-canonical proteins. However, achieving stringent control over protein expression in these organisms remains challenging, particularly with proteins where incomplete repression results in deleterious phenotypes.
