The Reward Positivity (RewP) is an event-related potential component with a delta band spectral representation that is elicited by reward receipt. Evidence suggests that RewP is modulated by both reward probability as well as affective valuation ("liking"). Here we determined whether RewP is a marker of enhanced hedonic salience of alcohol images in hazardous drinkers.

Microbial Communities in Gynecological Cancers and Their Association with Tumor Somatic Variation.

There are strong correlations between the microbiome and human disease, including cancer. However, very little is known about potential mechanisms associated with malignant transformation in microbiome-associated gynecological cancer, except for HPV-induced cervical cancer. Our hypothesis is that differences in bacterial communities in upper genital tract epithelium may lead to selection of specific genomic variation at the cellular level of these tissues that may predispose to their malignant transformation.

Acute inhalation of tungsten particles results in early signs of cardiac injury.

Epidemiological studies have established that exposure to tungsten increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. However, no studies have investigated how tungsten affects cardiac function or the development of cardiovascular disease. Inhalation of tungsten particulates is relevant in occupational settings, and inhalation of particulate matter has a known causative role in driving cardiovascular disease.

Our understanding of supercritical fluids has seen exciting advances over the last decades, often in direct contradiction to established textbook knowledge. Rather than being structureless, we now know that distinct supercritical liquid and gaseous states can be distinguished and that a higher order phase transition - pseudo boiling - occurs between supercritical liquid and gaseous states across the Widom line. Observed droplets and sharp interfaces at supercritical pressures are interpreted as evidence of surface tension due to phase equilibria in mixtures, given the lack of a supercritical liquid-vapor phase equilibrium in pure fluids.

A Slim Majority: The Influence of Sex Ratio on Women's Body Dissatisfaction and Weight Loss Motivations.

The current investigation examined whether women's perceptions of the sex ratio (ratio of women to men) in the local population influence their body dissatisfaction and weight loss motivations. A higher ratio of women to men in a given population signifies a relative abundance of same-sex mating competitors, intensifying female intrasexual competition. Five studies (N = 1,776) tested the hypotheses that women's perceptions of a female-skewed sex ratio would correspond to increased feelings of intrasexual competitiveness and perceptions of unfavorable mating prospects, which would, in turn, be associated with heightened body dissatisfaction and weight loss motivations.

Phase 1 dose-escalation study of SEA-CD40: a non-fucosylated CD40 agonist, in advanced solid tumors and lymphomas.

Background: SEA-CD40 is an investigational, non-fucosylated, humanized monoclonal IgG antibody that activates CD40, an immune-activating tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member. SEA-CD40 exhibits enhanced binding to activating FcγRIIIa, possibly enabling greater immune stimulation than other CD40 agonists. A first-in-human phase 1 trial was conducted to examine safety, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of SEA-CD40 monotherapy in patients with advanced solid tumors and lymphoma.

Fatigue is one of the most burdensome and disabling symptoms in numerous acute and chronic conditions and is associated with reduced participation in all aspects of daily life, for example, parenting, employment, and socialization. Historically, occupational practitioners played key roles in fatigue management by creating and implementing interventions. The American Occupational Therapy Foundation convened a Planning Grant Collective workshop with the goal to develop collaborative research ideas and proposals to advance the understanding and management of fatigue.

Particles and Prejudice: Nanomedicine Approaches to Reducing Health Disparities in Endometrial Cancer.

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecological malignancy worldwide and unfortunately has a much higher mortality rate in Black women compared with White women. Many potential factors contribute to these mortality rates, including the underlying effects of systemic and interpersonal racism. Furthermore, other trends in medicine have potential links to these rates including participation in clinical trials, hormone therapy, and pre-existing health conditions.

Preferences for training needs of village doctors in China: a systematic review.

Background: Village doctors, as gatekeepers of the health system for rural residents in China, are often confronted with adversity in providing the basic public healthcare services.

Objective: We sought to summarize the training contents, training method, training location, and training costs most preferred by village doctors in China and hope to provide evidence and support for the government to deliver better training in the future.

Advanced gynecologic cancers have historically lacked effective treatment options. Recently, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of cervical cancer and endometrial cancer, offering durable responses for some patients. In addition, many immunotherapy strategies are under investigation for the treatment of earlier stages of disease or in other gynecologic cancers, such as ovarian cancer and rare gynecologic tumors.

Mammalian ATG8 proteins maintain autophagosomal membrane integrity through ESCRTs.

The canonical autophagy pathway in mammalian cells sequesters diverse cytoplasmic cargo within the double membrane autophagosomes that eventually convert into degradative compartments via fusion with endolysosomal intermediates. Here, we report that autophagosomal membranes show permeability in cells lacking principal ATG8 proteins (mATG8s) and are unable to mature into autolysosomes. Using a combination of methods including a novel in vitro assay to measure membrane sealing, we uncovered a previously unappreciated function of mATG8s to maintain autophagosomal membranes in a sealed state.

DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), one of the most cytotoxic forms of DNA damage, can be repaired by the tightly regulated nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) machinery (Stinson and Loparo and Zhao ). Core NHEJ factors form an initial long-range (LR) synaptic complex that transitions into a DNA-PKcs (DNA-dependent protein kinase, catalytic subunit)-free, short-range state to align the DSB ends (Chen ). Using single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, we have visualized three additional key NHEJ complexes representing different transition states, with DNA-PKcs adopting distinct dimeric conformations within each of them.

Over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription sleep medications are frequently used as treatments for chronic insomnia, despite risks and limited long-term efficacy. Investigating mechanisms underlying this predilection for pharmacotherapy may uncover strategies to decrease reliance on sleep aids. The objective of this study was to determine how time monitoring behavior (TMB; clock-watching) and associated frustration may interact with insomnia symptoms to drive the use of sleep aids.

Diversity in kinship terminology has been analyzed by anthropologists for over 150 years, although recurrent patterning across cultures remains incompletely explained.
