Newborn screening (NBS) for Pompe disease (PD) was added to the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP) in the United States in 2015 because there was compelling evidence of health benefits for early diagnosis of Infantile-onset Pompe disease (IOPD). However, one limitation of NBS for PD is its inability to distinguish IOPD and late onset forms of Pompe disease (LOPD). Exposure to high fat diet (HFD) and persistent organic pollutants including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) is associated with liver injury in human populations and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and steatohepatitis (NASH) in animal models. Previously, exposure of HFD-fed male mice to the non-dioxin-like (NDL) PCB mixture Aroclor1260, dioxin-like (DL) PCB126, or Aroclor1260 + PCB126 co-exposure caused toxicant-associated steatohepatitis (TASH) and differentially altered the liver proteome. Here unbiased mRNA and miRNA sequencing (mRNA- and miRNA- seq) was used to identify biological pathways altered in these liver samples.

Profound dysfunctional reorganization of spinal networks and extensive loss of functional continuity after spinal cord injury (SCI) has not precluded individuals from achieving coordinated voluntary activity and gaining multi-systemic autonomic control. Bladder function is enhanced by approaches, such as spinal cord epidural stimulation (scES) that modulates and strengthens spared circuitry, even in cases of clinically complete SCI. It is unknown whether scES parameters specifically configured for modulating the activity of the lower urinary tract (LUT) could improve both bladder storage and emptying.

Importance: In the United States, individuals with HIV infection have been recommended to receive a 2-dose series of the meningococcal A, C, W, Y (MenACWY) vaccine since 2016 owing to their increased risk of meningococcal disease.

Objective: To examine uptake and time to receipt of the MenACWY vaccine among people with a new diagnosis of HIV.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cohort study used health insurance data from the US Optum Research Database from January 1, 2016, through March 31, 2018, to retrospectively identify 1208 individuals aged 2 years or older with 1 or more inpatient claim or 2 or more outpatient claims evidencing a new diagnosis of HIV infection and with continuous insurance enrollment for 12 or more months before and 6 or more months after diagnosis.

Although chemical exposures from cleaning and disinfectant products often go unnoticed or unrecognized, such exposures have been associated with asthma-related symptoms and exacerbations. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) website provides consumer information on a wide range of issues and products related to human health and the environment, including the use of cleaning and disinfectant products, 2,500 of which it has rated in terms of their effects on respiratory function and asthma. In discussing how the use of cleaning and disinfectant products and the frequency of their use may affect asthma control, the authors use the EWG ratings as well as data collected for a study they conducted on older adults with asthma.

RVUs are reviewed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services through the Resource-Based Relative-Value Scale Update Committee, which determines recommendations regarding the Current Procedural Terminology code valuations for the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. This study investigates the relationship between meal-specific eating patterns during pregnancy and postpartum with maternal diet quality and energy intake. Participants in a prospective cohort study completed 24-h dietary recalls three times throughout both pregnancy and 1 year postpartum ( = 420). Linear regressions estimated the associations of eating frequency (number of daily main meals and eating occasions), meal and energy regularity (meal skipping and variation of daily energy intake), and intake timing patterns (distribution of energy intake throughout the day, derived using principal component analysis) with daily energy intake and diet quality (Healthy Eating Index-2015, calculated daily and overall, across both pregnancy and postpartum).

Anti-ganglioside D1b (GD1b) Immunoglobulin G (IgG) positive Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is rare and usually presents with acute sensory or cerebellar ataxia, ascending paralysis, and loss of deep tendon reflexes (DTRs). A 19-year-old female individual with recent Influenza A infection had an acute onset of facial diplegia and minimal leg weakness with preserved DTRs. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis showed albuminocytologic dissociation with positive serum anti-GD1b IgG antibody (52 IV; reference range 0-50).

In the classic Cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate (cGAMP) synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway, downstream signals can control the production of type I interferon and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells to promote the activation of pro-inflammatory molecules, which are mainly induced during antiviral responses. However, with progress in this area of research, studies focused on autoimmune diseases and chronic inflammatory conditions that may be relevant to cGAS-STING pathways have been conducted. This review mainly highlights the functions of the cGAS-STING pathway in chronic inflammatory diseases.
