Descriptive Evaluation in Outpatient Follow-Up of Direct LDL-C in Patients with Elevated Triglycerides and Diabetes.

Introduction: An annual fasting lipid panel (FLP) is recommended for patients with diabetes, with more frequent testing advised during the escalation of cholesterol-lowering therapy. However, the calculated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) using the Friedewald equation becomes unreliable when triglycerides are ≥400 mg/dL. In such cases, providers must order a separate direct LDL-C assay to obtain accurate results.

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in Movies: The Hollywood Effect.

Introduction: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is one of the most common chronic diseases with childhood onset. Cinematic films and movies can reach populations worldwide and affect their concept of this disease. Through this research, the authors examined the accuracy of movies depicting T1D from childhood into adulthood.

Clinical Efficacy of Ultrasound-guided Iliopsoas Corticosteriod Injection for Hip Pain.

Introduction: Iliopsoas bursitis and tendinopathy are common causes of hip pain and major contributors to snapping hip syndrome, which affects 5-10% of the general population. These conditions often are treated with conservative measures, including corticosteroid injections into the iliopsoas bursa. However, the clinical effectiveness of such injections has not been well studied.

Patient-reported outcomes following ciltacabtagene autoleucel or standard of care in patients with lenalidomide-refractory multiple myeloma (CARTITUDE-4): results from a randomised, open-label, phase 3 trial.

Background: In CARTITUDE-4, ciltacabtagene autoleucel (cilta-cel) significantly improved progression-free survival (primary endpoint; previously reported) versus standard of care in patients with relapsed, lenalidomide-refractory multiple myeloma. We report here patient-reported outcomes.

Methods: In the ongoing, phase 3, open-label CARTITUDE-4 study, patients were recruited from 81 sites in the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and were randomly assigned 1:1 to cilta-cel (target, 0·75 × 10 CAR-T cells/kg) or standard of care (daratumumab, pomalidomide, and dexamethasone; pomalidomide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone).

Technology-Related Safety Strategies Among College Student Survivors Using Campus-Based Advocacy Services.

Technology can be leveraged as a tool by perpetrators of interpersonal violence, which requires survivors to consider digital platforms as part of their safety planning processes. To explore how survivors are addressing these safety concerns, we performed secondary, qualitative content analysis of semistructured interviews with college students who used campus-based advocacy services for interpersonal violence. Participants described an array of technology-related safety strategies they implemented to protect themselves across multiple types of digital technologies.

Some Lessons From Participatory Evaluation of the COVID-19 Response in the African Region.

This summary report describes partners' experiences and reflections on responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in selected countries in the African Region. Using a common protocol for participatory evaluation and sensemaking, it communicates country partners' experiences with the COVID-19 response in Gabon, Kenya, and Senegal as well as a regional perspective from partners in the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO). This report describes factors identified as associated with decreases (bending the curve) of new cases of COVID-19 over time, as well those associated with increases (worsening) of new cases, seen during the study period (2020-2021).

Factors Associated With Depression in Caregivers of Adults With Down Syndrome.

Background: Family caregivers of those with developmental disabilities have higher rates of depression and anxiety compared with caregivers of those without development disability. Few studies have examined factors that contribute to caregiver depression, including the appraisal of caregiving responsibilities and the physical fitness and daily function of the care recipient. The purpose of this study was to identify intrapersonal (caregiver) and interpersonal (care recipient) factors associated with depressive symptoms in caregivers of adults with Down syndrome (DS).

Stereotactic Cardiac Radiotherapy for Refractory Ventricular Tachycardia in Structural Heart Disease Patients: A Systematic Review.

Background: Among patients with structural heart disease with ventricular tachycardia (VT) refractory to medical therapy and catheter ablation, cardiac stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is a paradigm-changing treatment option.

Aims: To assess the efficacy of cardiac SBRT in refractory VT by comparing the rates of VT episodes, anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP) therapies, and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) shocks post-SBRT with pre-SBRT.

Methods: We performed a comprehensive literature search and included all clinical studies reporting outcomes on cardiac SBRT for VT.

We are developing a unique protein identification method that consists of generating peptides proteolytically from a single protein molecule (i.e., peptide fingerprints) with peptide detection and identification carried out using nanoscale electrochromatography and label-free resistive pulse sensing (RPS).

HuR inhibition overcomes cFLIP-mediated doxorubicin resistance in triple-negative breast cancer.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) presents therapeutic challenges due to limited targeted treatment options and resistance to chemotherapy drugs, such as doxorubicin. This study investigated doxorubicin resistance mechanisms and a strategy to overcome it. A doxorubicin-resistant cell subline (231-DR) was developed from MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells, and enhanced expression of cellular FLICE-inhibitory protein (cFLIP) in 231-DR cells was identified as a potential driver of the resistance.

Increasing Life Expectancy in Patients with Genitourinary Malignancies: Impact of Treatment Burden on Disease Management and Quality of Life.

Background And Objective: Treatment burden refers to the overall impact of medical treatments on a patient's well-being and daily life. Our objective is to evaluate the impact of treatment burden on quality of life (QoL) in patients with genitourinary (GU) malignancies, highlighting the importance of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in clinical trials to inform treatment decisions and improve patient care.

Methods: We conducted a narrative review of clinical trials focused on GU malignancy (prostate, bladder, and kidney) between January 2000 and June 2024, analyzing related PROs and findings regarding treatment burden.

Importance: Gender inequity in access to and outcomes of orthopaedic care demands research that properly analyses data based on sex and gender. Orthopaedic surgeons have an obligation to mitigate gender inequity in the provision of care by addressing the sex and gender bias in orthopaedic research methodology, grant funding, and publication demonstrated by this review.This study aimed to review the literature on known gender inequities in orthopaedic care, as well as sex and gender bias in orthopaedic research methodology, funding and publication; and to then to outline mitigating strategies.

Effectiveness of ceftazidime-avibactam versus ceftolozane-tazobactam for multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in the USA (CACTUS): a multicentre, retrospective, observational study.

Background: Ceftolozane-tazobactam and ceftazidime-avibactam are preferred treatment options for multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections; however, real-world comparative effectiveness studies are scarce. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic differences between the agents might affect clinical response rates. We aimed to compare the effectiveness of ceftolozane-tazobactam and ceftazidime-avibactam for treatment of invasive multidrug-resistant P aeruginosa infections.

Objectives: Bladder cancer (BLCA) is a tumor that affects men more than women. The biological function and prognostic value of androgen-responsive genes (ARGs) in BLCA are currently unknown. To address this, we established an androgen signature to determine the prognosis of BLCA.

Creating a Public Service Announcement as a Teaching Strategy to Advocate for Populations at Risk due to Climate Change.

The 2022 National League for Nursing Vision Statement, Climate Change and Health, identified gaps in nursing education regarding the issue of climate change and its impact on at-risk populations. Our innovative teaching strategy requires nursing students to use clinical judgment to synthesize ideas and communicate the health risks of climate change for population at risk in a brief video or public service announcement. This teaching strategy can prepare nursing students to advocate for population health.

Understanding the basic structure of the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC) in photosystem II (PS-II) and the water oxidation mechanism can aid in the discovery of more efficient and sustainable catalysts for water oxidation. In this context, we present evidence of the formation of a [(TPA)Mn(O)(μ-O)Ce(NO)] () complex (TPA = tris(pyridyl-2-methyl)amine) by adding aqueous ceric ammonium nitrate to an acetonitrile solution of the [(TPA)Mn] () complex. This unique intermediate () was analyzed by using various spectroscopic techniques and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

Utilization and outcomes of serial cervical cancer screening in a National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) in a non-Medicaid expansion state.

Purpose: Since 1990, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) has offered free cervical cancer screening to low-income, uninsured patients, increasing single time point screening and early detection rates. Little is known about NBCCEDP's longitudinal effectiveness. The objective of this study was to assess utilization of Kansas's NBCCEDP, early detection works (EDW) for one-time versus serial screening and compare rates of cervical dysplasia between groups.

Service Utilization and Consumer-Reported Unmet Needs in Medicaid Home- and Community-Based Services for Older Adults.

Home- and community-based services (HCBS) are increasingly favored over nursing home care by older consumers and by policymakers. Consumer-reported unmet service needs in HCBS are important service quality and person-centeredness indicators. Yet, we know little about consumer-reported unmet needs among HCBS users.

Adrenocortical Cancer Cell uptake of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare cancer with poor prognosis, treated primarily through surgery and chemotherapy. Other treatments like radiation or thermal ablation for metastases have limited success, and recurrence is common. More effective management options are needed.
