Objective: To establish lactate and glucose differences between affected and non-affected limbs in cats with feline arterial thromboembolism (FATE). To evaluate the correlation between these values and survival to discharge as well as congestive heart failure (CHF).
Methods: Blood glucose and lactate concentrations were prospectively obtained on admission from client-owned FATE cats and client-owned cats presented for other conditions.

A deep comparative analysis of brain functional connectome across species in primates has the potential to yield valuable insights for both scientific and clinical applications. However, the interspecies commonality and differences are inherently entangled with each other and with other irrelevant factors. Here we develop a novel contrastive machine learning method, called shared-unique variation autoencoder (SU-VAE), to allow disentanglement of the species-shared and species-specific functional connectome variation between macaque and human brains on large-scale resting-state fMRI datasets.

Rechargeable aqueous alkaline Zn-Ni batteries (AZNBs) are considered a potential contender for energy storage fields and portable devices due to their inherent safety, high output voltage, high theoretical capacity and environmental friendliness. Despite the facilitated development of AZNBs by many investigations, its practical application is still restricted by inadequate energy density, sluggish kinetics, and poor stability. Therefore, Ni-based cathodes with boosted redox chemistry and enhanced structural integrity is essential for the high-performance AZNBs.

Despite increasing awareness of microplastic contamination in food, the specific interactions and transformations of microplastics during digestion remain poorly understood. The study investigates the behavior of microplastics during in vitro digestion processes and their interaction with components of milk. The in vitro digestion studies are conducted to study the changes in microplastics in simulated digestive fluids, with and without milk.

Introduction: The competency of a nurse in integrating knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values in various healthcare areas depends on their ability to apply these elements. It is a basic indicator of performance in nursing, and its assessment is a necessity among nursing students.
Objective: The present study was conducted to determine the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the nursing competence tool for Iranian nursing students in 2023.

Cortical folding is closely linked to brain functions, with gyri acting more like local functional "hubs" to integrate information than sulci do. However, understanding how anatomical constraints relate to complex functions remains fragmented. One possible reason is that the relationship is estimated on brain mosaics divided by brain functions and cortical folding patterns.

How best to model structurally heterogeneous processes is a foundational question in the social, health and behavioral sciences. Recently, Fisher et al. introduced the multi-VAR approach for simultaneously estimating multiple-subject multivariate time series characterized by common and individualizing features using penalized estimation.

Trypanosoma cruzi is an important cause of disease and death in humans and dogs, and although wildlife infections are common, less is known about disease manifestations. A 12-week-old male American black bear (Ursus americanus) cub with mild lethargy and anorexia presented to a wildlife rehabilitation center in Lake Tahoe, California. The cub continued to become increasingly weak and showed decreasing interest in play and other activities.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major threat to human and animal health, and antimicrobial use selects for AMR. Appropriate selection of antimicrobial drugs is an important part of veterinary education, but many veterinary students report that they have knowledge gaps in this area. Students with greater self-efficacy, the belief that one can perform the individual steps that comprise a task, tend to expend more effort and motivation in learning new skills.

There is a long history of linking the perceptions of temperature and color (the "Hue-heat hypothesis"): red (R) and yellow (Y) are often considered warm, whereas blue (B) and green (G) are cool. Past studies, however, have largely used relatively broad-band light at a fixed intensity to test these relations. We tested whether increasing the intensity of highly saturated primary colors would lead to a concomitant change in the perceived temperature of those colors.

Fucosyl transferases (FUTs) are enzymes that transfer fucose (Fuc) from GDP-Fuc to acceptor substrates, resulting in fucosylated glycoconjugates that are involved in myriad physiological and disease processes. Previously, it has been shown that per--acetylated 2-F-Fuc can be taken up by cells and converted into GDP-2-F-Fuc, which is a competitive inhibitor of FUTs. Furthermore, it can act as a feedback inhibitor of biosynthesis of GDP-Fuc resulting in reduced glycoconjugate fucosylation.

(Mg) and (Ms) are regarded as the most important avian mycoplasma species for today's chicken and turkey farming industry from clinical and economical perspectives. Control strategies for Mg and Ms have become more efficient due to investments in mycoplasma research over the last 70 years. These investments have contributed to the further implementation of serological and molecular testing, the development of vaccines, and the improvement of antimicrobial treatment strategies.

Metabolic incorporation of chemically tagged monosaccharides is a facile means of tagging cellular glycoproteins and glycolipids. However, since the monosaccharide precursors are often shared by several pathways, selectivity has been difficult to attain. For example, N-linked glycosylation is a chemically complex and ubiquitous posttranslational modification, with three distinct classes of GlcNAc-containing N-glycan structures: oligomannose, hybrid and complex.

Colorants have played a crucial role in various applications, particularly in food processing, with natural sources such as mineral ores, plants, insects, and animals being commonly used. However, the nineteenth century saw the development of synthetic dyes, which replaced these natural colorants. In recent years, there has been a growing demand for natural products, driving an increased interest in natural colorants.

Iron-bearing smectite clay minerals can act as electron sources and sinks in the environment. Previous studies using mediated electrochemical analyses to determine the reduction potential () values of smectites observed that the relationship between the structural Fe/Fe ratio in the smectite and varied based on the redox history of the smectite. We hypothesize that this behavior, referred to as redox hysteresis, results from the smectite particles not equilibrating with the applied over the course of the experiment (∼30 min).

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) airway disease is characterized by impaired mucociliary clearance, chronic, polymicrobial infections and robust, neutrophil-dominated inflammation. Pulmonary disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in people with CF and is due to progressive airflow obstruction and ultimately respiratory failure. One of the earliest abnormalities in CF airway disease is the recruitment of neutrophils to the lungs.
