The aim of the present morphometric investigation was to evaluate the effects of bone-anchored maxillary protraction (BAMP) in the treatment of growing patients with Class III malocclusion. The shape and size changes in the craniofacial configuration of a sample of 26 children with Class III malocclusions consecutively treated with the BAMP protocol were compared with a matched sample of 15 children with untreated Class III malocclusions. All subjects in the two groups were at a prepubertal stage of skeletal development at time of first observation.

Objective: The objectives of this study were: 1) to evaluate the associations between an increased overjet (IO) and other dentoskeletal characteristics of Class II division 1 malocclusions in the mixed dentition; 2) to assess whether Class II division 1 malocclusions or rather an increased overjet per se is a risk factor for upper incisor trauma (UIT).
Materials And Methods: A sample of 900 mixed dentition subjects, was observed by clinical inspection, analysis of dental casts, and lateral cephalograms. The diagnostic performance of IO (overjet ≥ 7 mm) was evaluated in relation to other Class II dentoskeletal features (Class II molar and canine relationships, and skeletal Class II relationships).

The conceptus is considered a semi-allograft because of the presence of paternal HLA-C molecules. These alloantigens can be processed by maternal antigen presenting cells, which present them to specific maternal CD4+ T cells. After activation, the maternal CD4+ T cells can become effector decidual CD4+ T cells, which are able to release various cytokines.

The development of new instrumentation and techniques has led to the rapid advancement of less invasive surgical approaches in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Compared to the standard approach, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in TKA was shown to reduce postoperative pain, blood loss, and hospitalization time, and to improve functional recovery. Growing experience with MIS-TKA has defined the proper indications for this technique.

The purpose of treating furcal perforation is to seal the artificial communication between the endodontic space and the periradicular tissue to prevent alveolar bone resorption and damage to the periodontal ligament. These complications are not infrequent in cases of furcal and/or old perforations, which show a worse prognosis than fresh, small, coronal, and apical perforations. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is widely used to seal perforations because of its biocompatibility and sealability.

Aim: To describe the management of external invasive resorption using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA).
Summary: External invasive root resorption may occur as a consequence of trauma, orthodontic treatment, intracoronal bleaching and surgical procedures, and may lead to the progressive and destructive loss of tooth structure. Depending on the extent of the resorptive process, different treatment regimens have been proposed.

Bone marrow (BM)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent, nonhemopoietic progenitors that also possess regulatory activity on immune effector cells through different mechanisms. We demonstrate that human BM-derived MSCs expressed high levels of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) 3 and 4, which are both functional, as shown by the ability of their ligands to induce nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB) activity, as well as the production of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and CXCL10. Of note, ligation of TLR3 and TLR4 on MSCs also inhibited the ability of these cells to suppress the proliferation of T cells, without influencing their immunophenotype or differentiation potential.

We focus on the roles of decidual and cumulus oophorus T cells. It was suggested that Th1-type cytokines (IFN-gamma and TNF-beta), which promote allograft rejection, may compromise pregnancy, whereas the Th2-type cytokines (IL-4, IL-5, IL-10) inhibiting the Th1 responses promote allograft tolerance and therefore may improve fetal survival. We found that T cells' leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), M-CSF, IL-4 and IL-10 production at the fetomaternal interface could contribute to the maintenance of pregnancy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe concept of anxiety as a distinct comorbid disorder in schizophrenia has recently been rediscovered after having been neglected for a long period of time due to both theoretical and clinical approaches adopted from the appearance of the first edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1950. This rediscovery was accentuated by the fact that the concept of comorbidity in various psychiatric disorders has recently won widespread favor within the scientific community, and that the use of atypical neuroleptic medication to treat patients with schizophrenia has been reported to lead to the emergence of anxiety symptoms. Of the atypical neuroleptic medications used to treat schizophrenia, clozapine has most frequently been reported to induce anxiety symptoms.
