Iron overload-dependent ferroptosis is believed to contribute to the brain injury of ischemia/reperfusion (I/R), whereas toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) can exert pro-ferroptosis effect via inhibiting the glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) level, but the mechanisms behind these phenomenon are not fully elucidated. Tumor necrosis factor receptor correlated factor 3-interaction Jun amino-terminal kinase [JNK]-activating modulator (T3JAM) can activate specific molecule and its downstream signaling pathways, including TLR4. This study aims to explore whether targeting T3JAM can reduce I/R-induced ferroptosis in brain via downregulating TLR4.

Background/aims: The principal limitations of the term non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are the reliance on exclusionary confounder terms and the use of potentially stigmatizing language. Within three years, NAFLD went through two name changes, from NAFLD to metabolic-dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). However, there is no Asian consensus statement on the renaming of MASLD, and evidence on the epidemiology and characteristics in the Asia population under different diagnostic criteria remain limited.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder that places a heavy burden on patients and society. Hippocampal neuronal loss is a hallmark of AD progression. Therefore, understanding the mechanism underlying hippocampal neuronal death would be of great importance for the diagnosis and treatment of AD.

Background: ChatGPT is widely used for writing tasks, yet its effects on medical students' academic writing remain underexplored. This study aims to elucidate ChatGPT's impact on academic writing efficiency and quality among medical students, while also evaluating students' attitudes towards its use in academic writing.
Methods: We collected systematic reviews from 130 third-year medical students and administered a questionnaire to assess ChatGPT usage and student attitudes.

Background: Sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 (S1PR1) is considered to be closely related to a variety of malignant tumors, but the role and mechanism of S1PR1 in lung adenocarcinoma are not fully understood. In this study, we aim to explore the role and downstream signaling pathways of S1PR1 in the malignant biological functions of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).
Methods: Bioinformatics analysis, RT-qPCR, western blot and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were was used to investigate the expression of S1PR1 in LUAD.

Background: Gastrointestinal cancer is a significant cause of cancer incidence and mortality. Nevertheless, the epidemiology of the burden among adolescents and young adults (AYAs, aged 15-39 years) remains limited in the Asia-Pacific region, despite the region's significant population. This study aims to explore the gastrointestinal cancer burden among AYAs in the Asia-Pacific region for the year 2019, while also analysing trends from 1990 to 2019 and projecting future trends up to 2044.

Background: Maladaptive illness perception and coping strategies have been linked to illness-related quality of life in patients with chronic diseases. However, the impact of illness perception and coping strategies on vision-related quality of life (VRQOL) in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR), a significant microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus, remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate the associations among illness perception, coping styles, and VRQOL in Chinese patients with DR, and to explore the mediating role of coping styles in the relationship between illness perception and VRQOL.

The pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is complex and presents a serious threat to human health. Cardiomyocyte loss serves a pivotal role in both the onset and progression of CVD. Among various forms of programmed cell death, ferroptosis, along with apoptosis, autophagy and pyroptosis, is closely linked to the advancement of CVD.

Recent investigations have underscored the epigenetic modulation of the immune response; however, the interplay between RNA N6-methyladenosine (mA) modification and immunomodulation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) remains relatively unexplored. To bridge this knowledge gap, we undertook an extensive examination of the potential contributions of mA modification and immunomodulation in HNSC. We amalgamated and deduplicated 27 mA -related genes (m6AGs) and 1342 immune regulation-related genes (IMRGs), resulting in a comprehensive dataset encompassing 1358 genes.

Li Qi Huo Xue Di Wan (LQHXDW), a Chinese herbal medicine, is commonly used to treat symptoms such as palpitations, chest tightness, chest pain, and shortness of breath. However, its potential to reduce ischemia or hypoxia-induced cardiac injury and remodeling, along with the precise mechanisms involved, remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the effects of LQHXDW on cardiac injury and remodeling induced by ischemia or hypoxia, both in vivo and in vitro, and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), closely linked to excessive lipogenesis, induces chronic liver disease. MASLD often cause other metabolic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. However, the mechanism of N-acetyltransferase 10 (NAT10)-mediated N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) mRNA modification in lipogenesis of MASLD has not been fully elucidated.

In chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients with previous 96-week treatment with tenofovir amibufenamide (TMF) or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), we investigated the safety profile of sequential TMF treatment from 96 to 144 weeks. Enrolled subjects that previously assigned (2:1) to receive either 25 mg TMF or 300 mg TDF with matching placebo for 96 weeks received extending or switching TMF treatment for 48 weeks. Safety profiles of kidney, bone, metabolism, body weight, and others were evaluated.
