Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common primary liver cancer, is marked by a high mortality rate, with the misregulation of long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) playing a key role in its development. Here, we studied the role of LINC02987 in HCC. We employed bioinformatics tools to identify LncRNAs and miRNAs that exhibit differential expression in HCC.

This case reports a middle-aged male patient who was HIV-negative and initially misdiagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis but was eventually diagnosed with disseminated infection by next-generation sequencing. The patient presented with respiratory symptoms, recurrent bone pain, and subcutaneous masses as the main symptoms. After one year of antifungal treatment, the symptoms improved obviously, but the symptoms recurred after two weeks of drug withdrawal, and the symptoms were relieved after re-administration of antifungal drugs again.

Human herpes viruses (HHVs) are commonly detected in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) patients, particularly those with complex complications, attracting increased attention from clinical practitioners. However, the significance of detecting HHVs in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) with CAP patients is still unclear. This study retrospectively analyzed BALF samples from 64 CAP patients at the Kunming Third People's Hospital between August 2021 and December 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and tolerability of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatments for hepatitis C virus (HCV) across different genotypes (GTs) in a global, real-world context, focusing particularly on GT3 and GT6.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 15,849 chronic hepatitis C patients across Asia, North America, and Europe over a seven-year period, noting demographic factors such as age, sex, and prior treatment history.
  • Results showed a high sustained virological response (SVR12) rate of 96.9% overall, with variances by genotype, highlighting that independent factors like advanced age, cirrhosis, and previous treatment failures affected treatment outcomes, while being

Fulvic acid (FA) is a kind of natural organic acids extracted from lignite, which is the active ingredient in Wujin oral liquid, a proprietary Chinese medicine used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers. However, our understanding of the mechanisms of FA remains limited. Currently, the protection of FA and its mechanism were explored using the ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury mouse model.

To analyze the hepatic tissue inflammatory activity and influencing factors in HBeAg-positive patients during normal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and indeterminate phases so as to provide a basis for evaluating the disease condition. Patients with HBeAg-positive with normal ALT and HBV DNA levels below 2 × 10(7) IU/ml from January 2017 to December 2021 were selected as the study subjects. A histopathologic liver test was performed on these patients.

  • Tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes mellitus (DM) coexistence presents challenges for public health, and screening TB patients for DM can enhance early detection and treatment outcomes for both conditions.* -
  • A study in affluent Chinese cities found that 16.8% of 322 patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis also had diabetes, with male gender, older age, and a family history of diabetes identified as significant risk factors.* -
  • The research suggests that increasing awareness about diabetes and promoting healthier lifestyle choices could lower diabetes risk among TB patients, especially targeting older males with a family history of the disease.*

Background: The shoulder joint is the most commonly dislocated joint in the human body, and the recurrence rate exceeds 50% after nonsurgical treatment. Although surgical treatment reduces the recurrence rate, there is controversy regarding the optimal surgical approach. Previous studies suggest that the Latarjet procedure yields favourable outcomes for specific populations at risk of recurrence, such as competitive athletes with significant glenoid defects.

ThermomiR-377-3p-induced suppression of Cirbp expression is required for effective elimination of cancer cells and cancer stem-like cells by hyperthermia.

J Exp Clin Cancer Res

February 2024

Laboratory Animal Management Center, Cancer Research Institute, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, 510515, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are studying how heat treatment (hyperthermia) can help fight nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) and why some cancer cells resist the heat.
  • They found that using heat with a drug called oridonin makes cancer cells easier to kill, especially the tough ones that don't respond well to regular treatments.
  • The study also discovered that a protein called Cirbp helps cancer cells survive heat, and reducing Cirbp improves the effectiveness of heat treatment against these cancer cells.
