Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and its related lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are commonly observed among aging males and have a substantial effect on quality of life. Metabolic syndrome, with a specific focus on obesity, is believed to play a role in the development of BPH. This study intends to explore the relationship between several obesity-related metrics, including the Chinese Visceral Adiposity Index (CVAI), and LUTS/BPH within a national cohort of Chinese men.

This study aimed to identify new genetic targets linked to glioma by analyzing microarray datasets to uncover genetic factors involved in its onset and progression. We obtained two independent glioma datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus database, processed and normalized them using R software, and evaluated the relationship between differentially expressed genes and glioma by differential expression, expression quantitative trait loci, and Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses.

Background: Real-world data on the clinical benefit of vericiguat are currently limited. This multicenter, real-world study was conducted to evaluate the clinical characteristics and therapeutic effects of vericiguat in real-world settings.
Methods: This study analyzed heart failure (HF) patients who initiated vericiguat treatment from September 2022 to August 2023 across nine hospitals in the Anhui Province, China.
Anthocyanins in Murray can be degraded into metabolites by intestinal microorganisms and have a wide range of biological functions. However, there are limited studies on the effect of anthocyanins on the intestinal flora structure in patients with cerebral infarction. To explore the new probiotic effects of ACN, the gut microbiota present in fecal samples obtained from healthy volunteers and patients with acute cerebral infarction underwent in vitro fermentation analysis.

Objectives: To detect the plasma polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) concentrations in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients and healthy controls. Additionally, advanced studies were conducted to investigate the relationship between PUFAs concentrations and ophthalmological characteristics, including hyperreflective foci (HRF), visual acuity, and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) response in patients with AMD.
Methods: This prospective, single-site study recruited a total of 315 participants, consisting of 105 individuals with dry AMD (early-stage AMD group), 105 individuals with neovascular AMD (late-stage AMD group), and 105 elderly individuals without any fundus diseases (healthy controls).

Bone cancer pain (BCP) affects ~70% of patients in advanced stages, primarily due to bone metastasis, presenting a substantial therapeutic challenge. Here, we profile orphan G protein-coupled receptors in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) following tumor infiltration, and observe a notable increase in GPR160 expression. Elevated Gpr160 mRNA and protein levels persist from postoperative day 6 for over 18 days in the affected DRG, predominantly in small-diameter C-fiber type neurons specific to the tibia.

Gamma-butyrobetaine hydroxylase (BBOX1) plays a pivotal role in catalyzing the final stage of L-carnitine biosynthesis. Recently, increasing number of studies have reported that BBOX1 is weakly expressed in tumor cells and exhibits antitumor activity. The role of BBOX1 in Hepatoblastoma (HB) has yet to be determined.

Skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) is a highly fatal form of skin cancer that develops from the malignant transformation of epidermal melanocytes. There is substantial evidence linking autophagy to cancer etiology and immunotherapy efficacy. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of autophagy-related genes (ARGs) using TCGA datasets and further explore the potential function of critical ARGs in SKCM progression.

Our previous study has shown that exosomes derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs-exo) alleviated burn-induced acute lung injury (ALI). In this study, we explored a novel mechanism by which hUCMSCs-exo contributed to the inhibition of burn-induced ALI. The ALI rat model with severe burn was established for the in vivo experiments, and rats PMVECs were stimulated with the serum from burn-induced ALI rats for the in vitro experiments.

Objective: To present the real-world status and explore the predictors of the efficacy and prognosis of first-line treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC).
Methods: Real-world data of uHCC patients who underwent first-line treatment at 4 hospitals in Northern Anhui, China, from July 2019 to December 2022 were retrospectively collected. The clinicopathological features, haematological indicators, including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A), efficacy and safety data were analysed.

Objective: The main purpose of this study was to explore the mechanical properties of the anterior cruciate ligament and its attachments following reconstruction with the all-inside technique after anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Methods: Knee joint computed tomography data were collected from healthy volunteers, and knee joint models were created using Mimics software. A normal knee joint model, an all-inside reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament model, and a traditional reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament model were established.

Objective: Cancer is a predominant cause of death globally. PHD-finger domain protein 5 A (PHF5A) has been reported to participate in various cancers; however, there has been no pan-cancer analysis of PHF5A. This study aims to present a novel prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for cancer treatment.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a complex human-specific complication frequently associated with placental pathology. The local renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in the human placenta, which plays a crucial role in regulating placental function, has been extensively documented. Glucocorticoids (GCs) are a class of steroid hormones.

Glioma is a prevalent malignant tumour characterized by hypoxia as a pivotal factor in its progression. This study aims to investigate the impact of the most severely hypoxic cell subpopulation in glioma. Our findings reveal that the THBD macrophage subpopulation is closely associated with hypoxia in glioma, exhibiting significantly higher infiltration in tumours compared to non-tumour tissues.

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which form the largest family of membrane protein receptors in humans, are highly complex signaling systems with intricate structures and dynamic conformations and locations. Among these receptors, a specific subset is referred to as orphan GPCRs (oGPCRs) and has garnered significant interest in pain research due to their role in both central and peripheral nervous system function. The diversity of GPCR functions is attributed to multiple factors, including allosteric modulators, signaling bias, oligomerization, constitutive signaling, and compartmentalized signaling.

The prenatal period is a critical time for development and largely determines lifelong vascular health in offspring. Given the high incidence and severity of gestational hypoxia in mid-late pregnancy, it is urgent to further explore whether it affects the long-term synthesis of NO in offspring vascular endothelial cells.

Pathological neovascularization is a pivotal biological process in wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), in which macrophages (Mφs) play a key role. Tip cell specialization is critical in angiogenesis; however, its interconnection with the surrounding immune environment remains unclear. Succinate is an intermediate in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and was significantly elevated in patients with wet AMD by metabolomics.

Objectives: To investigate the extent of the left ventricular (LV) diffuse myocardial fibrosis and the association with the degree of impaired myocardial strain in different stages of heart failure.
Background: The increased diffuse myocardial fibrosis impairs the LV systolic and diastolic function. Previous studies found that the global longitudinal strain (GLS) impacted survival in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
