In a multicenter case-control investigation, we assessed the efficacy of the Electrooculogram Signal Analysis (EOG-SA) method, which integrates attention-related visual evocation, electrooculography, and nonlinear analysis, for distinguishing between intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and typical development (TD) in children. Analyzing 127 participants (63 IDD, 64 TD), we applied nonlinear dynamics for feature extraction. Results indicated EOG-SA's capability to distinguish IDD, with higher template thresholds and Correlation Dimension values correlating with clinical severity.

Background: The prevalence of lung cancer among individuals afflicted with interstitial pneumonia (IP) stands at approximately 20%. The early detection of lung cancer via chest computed tomography (CT) surveillance proves challenging in IP patients. Our investigation sought to identify a potential biomarker capable of providing early indications of the presence of lung tumors in such patients.

This study demonstrated that both copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) and copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) can cause swelling, inflammation, and cause damage to the mitochondria of alveolar type II epithelial cells in mice. Cellular examinations indicated that both CuO-NPs and Cu-NPs can reduce cell viability and harm the mitochondria of human bronchial epithelial cells, particularly Beas-2B cells. However, it is clear that CuO-NPs exhibit a more pronounced detrimental effect compared with Cu-NPs.

Background: We have previously shown that, compared with general anesthesia (GA), the procedure of peripheral nerve blocks (PNB) facilitates faster recovery of elderly patients from total knee replacement (TKR). Here, we investigated whether the faster recovery is associated with decreased perioperative stress and inflammation and decreased incidences of postoperative complications.

Methods: After randomization, 165 patients aged ≥65 years underwent TKR under GA or PNB.

Background: Tobacco cessation is proven to be the most effective and cost-effective strategy for smokers to reduce their risk of smoking-related disease and premature death. Providing effective, efficient, safe, and patient-centred tobacco cessation treatment to reach those who need them is a significant challenge. To date, only a few nationwide studies in China have assessed the overall clinical care practice and treatment outcome of tobacco cessation.

August 2023

College of Integrative Medicine, Laboratory of Pathophysiology, Key Laboratory of Integrative Medicine on Chronic Diseases (Fujian Province University), Synthesized Laboratory of Integrative Medicine, Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Fuzhou 350122, China. Electronic address:

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA), a progressive joint disease, is a leading source of chronic pain and disability, and its diagnosis mainly depends on medical imaging findings and clinical symptoms. This study aimed to explore an auxiliary diagnostic technology and clinical efficacy evaluation in KOA based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Three sequential experiments were performed: 1) preliminary observation of the therapeutic effects of icariin (ICA); 2) using serum SERS spectra obtained from rat models belonging to sham group, KOA group and icariin treatment group, respectively, to analyze the KOA-related expression profiles; 3) employing partial least squares (PLS) and support vector machines (SVM) algorithms to establish KOA diagnosis model.

The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of the combination of tirofiban with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) in treating patients with capsular warning syndrome (CWS) who failed to respond to the treatment of intravenous thrombolysis alone. Tirofiban was approved for the treatment of CWS patients with fluctuating symptoms or no substantial improvement after intravenous thrombolysis within 24 h in our hospital from October 2019 to June 2021. Patients were evaluated with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) at admission, at 72 h post-thrombolysis, at 1-week, and at 3-months with the modified Rankin Scales (MRS) score.
