Identification and Characterization of Xlr5c as a Novel Nuclear Localization Protein in Mouse Germ Cells.

Background: Spermatogenesis is the complex process by which diploid stem cells generate haploid germ cells in gamete production. Members of the Xlr (X-chromosome linked, lymphocyte regulated) superfamily play essential roles in spermatogenesis. The expression, localization and role in spermatogenesis of one such member, Xlr5c, has not been reported previously.

[Screening of common deaf genes in pregnant women and prevention of deafness at birth].

Objective: To determine the carrier rate for common mutations causing deafness among pregnant women in order to prevent births of deaf children.

Methods: For 893 pregnant women, 2 mL peripheral venous blood was taken and DNA was extracted. A deafness DNA microarray screening was applied to such samples, and DNA sequencing was applied to husbands of women with positive screening results.

[Clinical characteristics and therapeutic efficacy of immunoglobin D multiple myeloma].

This study was aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics of immunoglobin D multiple myeloma (IgD MM) and its curative efficacy. The clinical data of 15 cases of newly diagnosed IgD MM from April 1993 to June 2013 were analyzed retrospectively. Among 15 cases received induction treatment, the traditional chemotherapy was carried out in 9 cases, bortezomib-based therapy was performed in 6 cases.

[Immunophenotype characteristics of patients with multiple myeloma in different risk stratification].

This study assessed the immunophenotype characteristics of newly diagosised patients with multiple myeloma (MM) in different risk stratification in order to find the relationship between the immunophenotype and prognosis of MM. The expressions of CD45, CD38, CD138, CD56, CD19, CD117, CD13, CD20, CD22, CD34, Kappa, Lambda in bone marrow samples from 62 newly diagnosed MM patients were detected by using flow cytometric multiparametric direct immunofluorescence technique, CD45/SSC and CD38/SSC combination gating, then the immumophemotypic characteristics of patients in different risk stratification groups were analyzed and compared. The new risk stratification of all patients was carried out according to ISS stages (Interuational Staging System) and cytogenetic characteristics.

Clinical and structural results of arthroscopic repair of bursal-side partial-thickness rotator cuff tears.

Background: There have been few studies using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate the clinical outcomes and structural results after arthroscopic repair of bursal-side partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (PTRCTs).

Methods: From 2009 to 2012, 73 consecutive patients with bursal-side PTRCTs underwent arthroscopic repair. Fifty-nine of them were retrospectively evaluated as Ellman classification grade 2 (group A, n = 11) or grade 3 (group B, n = 48).

Gametogenesis is a complex biological process of producing cells for sexual reproduction. Xlr super family members containing a conserved COR1 domain play essential roles in gametogenesis. In the present study, we identified that Slx2, a novel member of Xlr super family, is specifically expressed in the meiotic oocytes, which is demonstrated by western blotting and immunohistochemistry studies.

The Effects of Needling Fenglong (ST40) and Neiguan (PC6) on IL-17 of ApoE-Gene-Knockout Mice's Liver.

The aim of the present paper was to observe the effects of needling ST40 and PC6 on IL-17 of ApoE(-/-) mice with fatty liver. Forty male ApoE(-/-) mice were randomized into Needling-Acupoint Group, Simvastatin Intragastric Administration Group, Needling Nonacupoint Group, and Model Group. Each was fed with high fat diet for 8 weeks since 16 weeks of age; after 8 weeks of intervention, mice were sacrificed and tested for various examinations.

[65-month testosterone replacement therapy for androgen deficiency-induced ED: a case report and review of the literature].

Objective: To explore the mechanism of erectile dysfunction (ED) with testosterone deficiency and discuss the feasibility of long-term testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) by observing a case of ED with testosterone deficiency treated by TRT for 65 months.

Methods: We treated an ED patient with testosterone deficiency by TST for 65 months, and evaluated the therapeutic effects by analyzing his IIEF-5 score, dynamic changes in testosterone, PSA, hemoglobin and red blood cell count, and adverse events.

Results: The patient was a 46-year-old man, with an IIEF-5 score of 7, baseline serum total testosterone (TT) of 2.

[Bilateral mandibular fourth molars: a case report].

The occurrence of supernumerary teeth is a relatively rare dental dysplasia. Permanent fourth molars are seldom observed in humans. A case of bilateral mandibular fourth molar is reported in this paper.

[Mid-term results after arthroscopic repair of full-thickness rotator cuff tears].

Objective: To evaluate the mid-term results of arthroscopic repair of full-thickness rotator cuff tears.

Methods: From December 2002 to May 2007, 35 patients(35 shoulders) with full-thickness rotator cuff tears underwent arthroscopic treatment. Five patients were lost in the follow-up period, leaving 30 patients available for evaluation.

Early clinical characteristics and pregnancy outcomes of patients with influenza A (H1N1) infection requiring mechanical ventilation during pregnancy.

The early clinical characteristics and pregnancy outcomes of H1N1-infected pregnant women with or without mechanical ventilation were compared. In H1N1-infected pregnant women with mechanical ventilation, the gestational age was greater, the early oxygenation index was lower and early-stage pneumonic lesions were wider than patients without mechanical ventilation. Moreover, compared with the non-mechanical ventilation group, the incidence of the adverse pregnancy outcomes was higher in the mechanical ventilation group.

[Clinical features and drug resistance characteristics of ovarian clear cell adenocarcinoma and analysis of its prognostic factors].

Methods: Forty-seven OCCA patients and 53 ovarian serous cyst adenocarcinoma (OSCA) patients were included in this study. Their clinical characteristics, drug resistance, and prognostic factors were analyzed.

Methods: Between June 2005 to July 2010, 36 patients with OPLL of cervical spine were reoperated. There were 23 male, 13 female, age from 39 to 72 years (mean 57 years).

Objective: To investigate the expression of apoptosis-related protein Bcl-w in adenocarcinoma of the small intestine, and the apoptotic effect of Bcl-w siRNA on small intestinal adenocarcinoma cells HuTu-80.

Methods: Forty-two tissue samples were examined in our study, including 7 cases from human small intestinal adenocarcinoma, and 35 cases from normal small intestine served as control. The expression of Bcl-w was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC).

[Delorme procedure for full-thickness rectal prolapse: a report of 25 cases].

[Fracture of the separated nickel titanium instruments during ultrasonic removal: an experimental study].

Objective: This in vitro study is to evaluate the effect of ultrasonic power settings and cooling methods on fracture behavior of the separated nickel titanium instruments during ultrasonic removal.

Methods: 40 discarded and 10 new nickel titanium instruments were used to establish the separated instrument removal model. The discarded instruments were divided into four groups according to two ultrasonic power settings(6 or 10) and different cooling methods (using water coolant or without using water coolant), and all the new instruments were put into the group in which ultrasonic vibration was used at a higher power setting (10) without using water coolant.

[Correlation of testicular volume and reproductive hormone level with the results of testicular sperm aspiration in non-obstructive azoospermia patients].

Objective: To investigate the correlation of the testis volume and reproductive hormone level with the results of testicular sperm aspiration (TESA) in non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) patients, and to explore the cut-off value of the testis volume and reproductive hormone level in predicting the results of TESA so as to provide reliable information for the diagnosis and treatment of NOA.

Methods: We enlisted 121 NOA patients in this study, divided them into a sperm group and a non-sperm group based on the results of TESA, and measured their testis volumes and reproductive hormone levels.

Effects of chronic chromate exposure on human serum prostate specific antigen: a cross sectional study.

The detrimental effect of chronic chromium (Cr) exposure on the prostate has never been studied. Here, we report the prostate specific antigen (PSA) changes in occupational chromate exposed workers. In this study, eighty six male occupational chromate exposed workers and forty five age-matched controls were recruited.

[Long term observation of the effectiveness after tonsillectomy].

Efficacy of acupuncture for migraine prophylaxis: a single-blinded, double-dummy, randomized controlled trial.

Insufficient clinical trial data were available to prove the efficacy of acupuncture for migraine prophylaxis. A multicenter, double-dummy, single-blinded, randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted at the outpatient departments of acupuncture at 5 hospitals in China to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture. A total of 140 patients with migraine without aura were recruited and assigned randomly to 2 different groups: the acupuncture group treated with verum acupuncture plus placebo and the control group treated with sham acupuncture plus flunarizine.

[Clinicopathologic study on reactive hyperplasia of lymph nodes in maxillofacial regions].

Methods: Thirty-two patients with lymph node reactive hyperplasia (LRH) were analyzed clinicopathologically including pathomorphologic manifestation and immunohistochemical expression.

[Analysis of misdiagnosis and differential diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis in adults].

Method: Medical records of 50 adult IM patients admitted in hospital were analyzed retrospectively.

Result: Diagnosis delayed group contained 16 patients (32% of total patients) and was significantly different from the diagnosis in-time group in typical symptoms, signs and laboratory findings of IM.
