The global epidemic of metabolic diseases has led to the emergence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which pose a significant threat to human health. Despite recent advances in research on the pathogenesis and treatment of MASLD/MASH, there is still a lack of more effective and targeted therapies. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) discovered in a wide range of tissues and body fluids encapsulate different activated biomolecules and mediate intercellular communication.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has become one of the most prevalent liver diseases worldwide, and its occurrence is strongly associated with obesity, insulin resistance (IR), genetics, and metabolic stress. Ranging from simple fatty liver to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), even to severe complications such as liver fibrosis and advanced cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma, the underlying mechanisms of MASLD progression are complex and involve multiple cellular mediators and related signaling pathways. Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) from the innate immune system, including Toll-like receptors (TLRs), C-type lectin receptors (CLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs), RIG-like receptors (RLRs), and DNA receptors, have been demonstrated to potentially contribute to the pathogenesis for MASLD.

Cellular senescence has a complex role in lymphocyte carcinogenesis and drug resistance of lymphomas. Senescent lymphoma cells combine with immunocytes to create an ageing environment that can be reprogrammed with a senescence‑associated secretory phenotype, which gradually promotes therapeutic resistance. Certain signalling pathways, such as the NF‑κB, Wnt and PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathways, regulate the tumour ageing microenvironment and induce the proliferation and progression of lymphoma cells.

Heterotopic ossification (HO), the pathological formation of bone within soft tissues such as tendon and muscle, is a notable complication resulting from severe injury. While soft tissue injury is necessary for HO development, the specific molecular pathology responsible for trauma-induced HO remains a mystery. The previous study detected abnormal autophagy function in the early stages of tendon HO.

Commonly, articular osteochondral tissue exists significant differences in physiological architecture, mechanical function, and biological microenvironment. However, the development of biomimetic scaffolds incorporating upper cartilage, middle tidemark-like, and lower subchondral bone layers for precise articular osteochondral repair remains elusive. This study proposed here a novel strategy to construct the trilayered biomimetic hydrogel scaffolds with dual-differential microenvironment of both mechanical and biological factors.

Objective: To evaluate whether using a cocktail of intercostal nerve blocks (TINB) during thoracoscopic surgery results in better clinical outcomes than patient-controlled analgesia (PCIA).
Methods: Patients in two medical groups undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for pulmonary nodules in West China Hospital of Sichuan University were collected consecutively between March 2022 and December 2022. Background And Objective: The prevalence of myopia and high myopia is increasing globally, underscoring the growing importance of diagnosing high myopia-related pathologies. While existing image segmentation models, such as U-Net, UNet++, ResU-Net, and TransUNet, have achieved significant success in medical image segmentation, they still face challenges when dealing with ultra-widefield (UWF) fundus images. This study introduces a novel automatic segmentation algorithm for the optic disc and peripapillary atrophy (PPA) based on UWF fundus images, aimed at assisting ophthalmologists in more accurately diagnosing high myopia-related diseases.

Background: Exosomes derived from breast cancer have been reported to play a role in promoting cell proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis, which has the potential to accelerate the healing process of diabetic wounds. The aim of this investigation was to examine the function of exosomes originating from 4T1 mouse breast carcinoma cells (TEXs) in the process of diabetic wound healing.
Methods: The assessment of primary mouse skin fibroblasts cell proliferation and migration was conducted through the utilization of CCK-8 and wound healing assays, while the tube formation of HUVECs was evaluated by tube formation assay.

Research Question: Does type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) affect reproductive health of female patients? What is the potential mechanism of reproductive dysfunction in female patients caused by T1DM?
Design: Preliminary assessment of serum levels of female hormones in women with or without T1DM. Then histological and immunological examinations were carried out on the pancreas, ovaries and uteri at different stages in non-obese diabetic (NOD) and Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice, as well as assessment of their fertility. A protein array was carried out to detect the changes in serum inflammatory cytokines.

Aim: To assess the thyroid allostasis in drug-free patients with affective disorder.
Methods: Patients with major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder as drug-free, defined as those without psychiatric drugs exposure for at least 4 months before admission, from a tertiary hospital were recruited in this cross-sectional study. The primary outcomes were "structure parameters of thyroid homeostasis", which include "thyroid's secretory capacity" (SPINA-GT), "sum step-up activity of deiodinases" (SPINA-GD), the ratio of total to free thyroxine and "thyroid homeostasis central set point" (TSH index and "thyroid feedback quantile-based index" [TFQI]), calculated by TSH and thyroid hormones measured at admission.

Spondin-2 (SPON2), also referred to as M-spondin or DIL-1, is a member of the extracellular matrix protein family known as Mindin-F-spondin (FS). SPON2 can be used as a broad-spectrum tumor marker for more than a dozen tumors, mainly prostate cancer. Meanwhile, SPON2 is also a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of certain non-tumor diseases.

Coal mining carries inherent risks of catastrophic gas explosions capable of inflicting severe lung injury. Using complementary in vivo and in vitro models, we explored mechanisms underlying alveolar epithelial damage and repair following a gas explosion in this study. In a rat model, the gas explosion was demonstrated to trigger inflammation and injury within the alveolar epithelium.

Numb is an evolutionarily conserved protein that regulates the differentiation of neuronal progenitor cells through unknown mechanisms. Numb has four alternative splice variants with different lengths of phosphotyrosine-binding (PTB) and proline-rich regions (PRR) domains. In this study, we demonstrated that Numb expression was increased in the primary cultures of rat cortical and hippocampal neurons over time in vitro, and Numb antisense inhibited neurite outgrowth.

Our previous studies have confirmed that resveratrol (RSV) can prevent the development of osteoarthritis through a variety of mechanisms, such as apoptosis inhibition, autophagy induction and SIRT 1 activation. However, the pharmaceutical application of RSV is mainly limited by its low bioavailability. Here, we designed and synthesized RSV-loaded poly (D, l-lactide-coglycolide acid) (PLGA)-nanoparticles (NPs).

Immunoregulatory and vascularized microenvironments play an important role in bone regeneration; however, the precise regulation for vascularization and inflammatory reactions remains elusive during bone repair. In this study, by means of subcutaneous preimplantation, we successfully constructed demineralized bone matrix (DBM) grafts with immunoregulatory and vascularized microenvironments. According to the current results, at the early time points (days 1 and 3), subcutaneously implanted DBM grafts recruited a large number of pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages with positive expression of CD68 and iNOS, while at the later time points (days 7 and 14), these inflammatory cells gradually subsided, accompanying increased presence of anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages with positive expression of CD206 and Arg-1, indicating a gradually enhanced anti-inflammatory microenvironment.
