The incidence of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) continues to increase worldwide, however its molecular pathogenesis remains poorly understood. Recent studies have implicated microRNAs in iCCA progression. In this study, we demonstrated that miR-885-5p was significantly decreased in iCCA tissues.

Neuropilin-1 regulated by miR-320a participates in the progression of cholangiocarcinoma by serving as a co-receptor that activates multiple signaling pathways. The present study sought to investigate upstream lncRNAs that control the expression of miR-320a/neuropilin-1 axis and dissect some of the underlying mechanisms. Here we report lncRNA TTN-AS1 (titin-antisense RNA1) acts as a sponging ceRNA to downregulate miR-320a and is highly expressed in human cholangiocarcinoma tissues and cells.

Purpose: Death domain-associated protein (DAXX) is a multifunctional nuclear protein involved in apoptosis, transcription, deoxyribonucleic acid damage response, and tumorigenesis. However, the role of DAXX in breast cancer development and progression remains elusive. In this study, we examined the expression patterns and function of DAXX in human breast cancer samples and cell lines.

Background: Imatinib resistance is commonly associated with the activation of BCR-ABL signaling in chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). The activation of Lyn can result in imatinib resistance by regulating the formation of BCR-ABL protein complexes. SIRT1 is a novel survival pathway activated by BCR-ABL expression in haematopoietic progenitor cells.

In addition, site-specific PEGylation was performed using LEX-1 as a lead sequence to generate four exenatide derivatives (LEX-2 to LEX-5). Moreover, we determined the optimal molecular weight of maleimide-derivatized PEG for the site-specific PEGylation of LEX-1 by an stability assay and an hypoglycemic efficacy test.

Tumor cells primarily utilize aerobic glycolysis for energy production, a phenomenon known as the Warburg effect, but the involvement of Warburg effect in liver cancer cell metastasis is not well understood. In present study, our results indicate a positive correlation between glucose metabolism level and metastatic potential of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We also observed that a long noncoding RNA-SOX2OT (lncRNA-SOX2OT) can not only increase the metastatic potential of HCC but also promote a pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2)-mediated activation of glucose metabolism.

Superoxide dismutase 1(SOD1) is a major antioxidant with oncogenic effects in many human cancers. Although SOD1 is overexpressed in various cancers, the clinical significance and functions of SOD1 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), particularly the epigenetic regulation of SOD1 in NSCLC carcinogenesis and progression have been less well investigated. In this study, we found that SOD1 expression was upregulated in NSCLC cell lines and tissues.

Lung cancer has higher morbidity and mortality than most cancers. It is common that there are some phenomenons of secondary drug resistance, radiotherapy resistance and poor prognosis during the treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Recent studies revealed that the single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are associated with the curative effect among patients with the same pathological type and stage.

Metabolic abnormality is the major feature of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), however, the underlying mechanism remain largely elusive. Fatty acid desaturase 1 (FADS1), as the key rate-limiting enzyme of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), catalyzes dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA) to arachidonic acid (AA). In this study, we reported that the expression of FADS1 was upregulated in LSCC, high FADS1 expression was closely associated with the advanced clinical features and poor prognosis of the recurrent LSCC patients after chemotherapy.

Purpose: Standard adjuvant chemotherapy for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) includes a taxane and an anthracycline. Concomitant capecitabine may be beneficial, but robust data to support this are lacking. The efficacy and safety of the addition of capecitabine into the TNBC adjuvant treatment regimen was evaluated.

Although the treatment of brain tumors by targeting kinase-regulated macroautophagy/autophagy, is under investigation, the precise mechanism underlying autophagy initiation and its significance in glioblastoma (GBM) remains to be defined. Here, we report that PAK1 (p21 [RAC1] activated kinase 1) is significantly upregulated and promotes GBM development. The Cancer Genome Atlas analysis suggests that the oncogenic role of PAK1 in GBM is mainly associated with autophagy.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly lethal malignancy and its mortality continues to rise globally. Because of its high heterogeneity and complex molecular landscapes, published gene signatures have demonstrated low specificity and robustness. Functional signatures containing a group of genes involved in similar biological functions may display a more robust performance.

Background: The introduction of antibodies targeting programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) and programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) into clinical practice has had a revolutionary effect on cancer treatment. However, the incidence and risk of fatal adverse events (FAEs) following PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor administration are controversial.
Methods: We performed a systematic search for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors (atezolizumab, avelumab, durvalumab, nivolumab, and pembrolizumab) in Embase, PubMed, the Cochrane database, and abstracts presented at American Society of Clinical Oncology and European Society of Medical Oncology from inception to July 2018.

Introduction: The exfoliation of exfoliative cells from gastric serosa into the peritoneum is the main cause of peritoneal metastasis, which is the most common form of postoperative recurrence in gastric cancer. This study investigates the effects of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) on the biological properties of gastric cancer cells.
Material And Methods: mRNA expression of VEGF and EGF in gastric cancer tissues from 80 patients suffering from serosa-infiltrated gastric cancer (T) was examined.

LncRNA-XIST participated in the regulation of Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progression, but the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. This study showed that LncRNA-XIST aberrantly overexpressed in either NSCLC tissues or cell lines comparing to their paired control groups. Knock-down of LncRNA-XIST promoted NSCLC cell apoptosis and inhibited cell proliferation, which were reversed by synergistically treating cells with pyroptosis inhibitor Necrosulfonamide (NSA).

Ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) is a common complication that results from treatment with mechanical ventilation (MV) in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients. The present study investigated the effect of endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) transplantation on VILI. Wistar rats were divided into three groups ( = 8): sham (S), VILI model (V) induced by tidal volume ventilation (17 mL/kg), and VILI plus EPC transplantation (VE) groups.
