Emerging evidence suggests that signaling pathways can be spatially regulated to ensure rapid and efficient responses to dynamically changing local cues. Ferroptosis is a recently defined form of lipid peroxidation-driven cell death. Although the molecular mechanisms underlying ferroptosis are emerging, spatial aspects of its signaling remain largely unexplored.

Previous studies have suggested that diabetic patients should align their food and nutrient intake with their biological metabolic rhythm. However, the optimal timing of coffee consumption to prevent the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in diabetic patients remains unknown. This study aims to examine the association between the amount and timing of coffee consumption and CKD prevalence in diabetic patients.

Objective: To examine the test-retest reliability of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - 8 Dimension (FACT-8D) for the first time, and to conduct a head-to-head comparison of the distribution properties and validity between the FACT-8D and EQ-5D-5L in Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Patients.
Methods: We conducted a longitudinal study on Chinese CRC patients, employing Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G) and EQ-5D-5L at baseline, and FACT-G during follow-up (2-7 days from baseline). Utility scores for FACT-8D were derived from all available value sets (Australia, Canada and USA), while EQ-5D-5L scores were obtained from corresponding value sets for various countries.

Introduction: Autogenous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the preferred vascular access in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). However, complications such as thrombosis may occur. This study aimed to construct and validate a machine learning-based risk-prediction model for AVF thrombosis, hypothesizing that such a model can effectively predict occurrences, providing a foundation for early clinical intervention.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is attracting great attention for cancer treatments, while its therapeutic efficacy is limited by unsatisfactory photosensitizers and hypoxic tumor microenvironment (TME). To address these problems, we have developed catalase-loaded manganese-porphyrin frameworks (CAT@MnPFs) for catalytically-assisted PDT of cancer cells. CAT@MnPFs were constructed by the assembly of Mn ions and PpIX into MnPFs and the subsequent loading of catalase.

Background: Although both EQ-5D-3L(3L) and EQ-5D-5L(5L) have demonstrated good measurement properties in several patient populations, there is currently limited evidence comparing the measurement properties of 3L and 5L in family caregivers (FCs) of cancer patients.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the measurement properties of 3L and 5L in a sample of family caregivers of cancer patients.
Methods: A consecutive sample of FCs of cancer patients recruited from three tertiary hospitals were invited to complete the two versions of the EQ-5D in two rounds of interviews.

Background: High-grade serious ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) is a subtype of ovarian cancer with a different prognosis attributable to genetic heterogeneity. The prognosis of patients with advanced HGSOC requires prediction by genetic markers. This study systematically analyzed gene expression profile data to establish a genetic marker for predicting HGSOC prognosis.

Background: We aim to retrospectively explore the guiding value of the Lauren classification for patients who have undergone D2 gastrectomy to choose oxaliplatin plus capecitabine (XELOX) or oxaliplatin plus S-1 (SOX) as a further systemic treatment after the operation.
Methods: We collected data of 406 patients with stage III gastric cancer(GC)after radical D2 resection and regularly received XELOX or SOX adjuvant treatment after surgery and followed them for at least five years. According to the Lauren classification, we separated patients out into intestinal type (IT) GC together with non-intestinal type(NIT) GC.

Major intrinsic protein (MIP) functions as a water channel and a cell-junction molecule in the vertebrate eye lens. The pathogenic mechanism behind the loss of MIP function in the lens, which leads to degraded optical quality and cataract formation, is still unclear. In this study, a zebrafish model with the mipb mutant was produced.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop a machine learning model to retrospectively study and predict the recurrence risk of breast cancer patients after surgery by extracting the clinicopathological features of tumors from unstructured clinical electronic health record (EHR) data.
Methods: This retrospective cohort included 1,841 breast cancer patients who underwent surgical treatment. To extract the principal features associated with recurrence risk, the clinical notes and histopathology reports of patients were collected and feature engineering was used.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the predominant form of lung cancer and is one of the most fatal cancers worldwide. Recently, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) proposed a novel grading system based on the predominant and high-grade histological patterns for invasive pulmonary adenocarcinoma (IPA). To improve outcomes for NSCLC patients, we combined serum metabolomics and fecal microbiology to screen biomarkers in patients with early-stage NSCLC and identified characteristic microbial profiles in patients with different grades of IPA.

The therapeutic effects of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and their conditioned media have been well-documented. This study focused on the effects of BMSC-conditioned medium (BMSCcm) on spinal cord injury (SCI). To study the effects of BMSCcm on rat motor function, inflammatory response, and M1/M2 macrophage/microglial polarization, SCI model rats were treated with BMSCcm and vectors for overexpression of galectin-3 (Gal-3) or NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3).

Unfolded protein response (UPR) signaling is activated under endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, an emerging cancer hallmark, leading to either adaptive survival or cell death, while the mechanisms underlying adaptation-death switch remain poorly understood. Here, we examined whether oncogene iASPP regulates the switch and how the mechanisms can be used in colon cancer treatment. iASPP is downregulated when cells undergo transition from adaptation to death during therapy-induced ER stress.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the most common malignancies worldwide and its mechanism is unclear. Polymeric immunoglobulin receptor (PIGR) which plays an important role in mucosal immunity is widely expressed in the mucosal epithelium and is dysregulated in different tumors. However, the role and underlying mechanisms of PIGR in CRC remain unclear.

Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) improve the self-renewal and survival of fat grafts in breast reconstruction after oncology surgery. However, ASCs have also been found to enhance breast cancer growth, and its role in tumor proliferation remains largely elusive. Here, we explored a novel mechanism that mediates hTERT reactivation during ASC-induced tumor growth in breast cancer cells.

In this study, we first performed an integrative framework to infer the clonal status of mutations in glioblastomas (GBMs) and low-grade gliomas (LGGs) by using exome sequencing data from TCGA and observed both clonal and subclonal mutations for most mutant genes. Based on the clonal status of a given gene, we systematically investigated its prognostic value in GBM and LGG, respectively.
