Cystitis glandularis (CG), known as a pre-gradual lesion in the bladder, is the pathological changes in the vesical mucosa characterized by inflammatory invasion and chronic obstruction. Clinically, effective treatment against CG is prescribed only when using drug therapy. Fucoidan, the naturally extractive polysaccharide, is well-reported bioactive compound with anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties.

Objective: To explore the mechanism of HIF-1α promoting the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells by regulating the expression of MMP-2.
Methods: 30 nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues and 30 normal nasopharyngeal epithelial tissues were collected, and the expression of HIF-1α and MMP-2 in the nasopharyngeal carcinoma, normal nasopharyngeal epithelial tissues and their hypoxic environment were systematically analyzed by qRT-PCR and western blot techniques. Lentivirus transfection technology was used to regulate the expression of HIF-1α and MMP-2 genes in the HONE1 cell line under hypoxic environment, and to explore the interaction mechanism of HIF-1α and MMP-2 genes and their role in the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction, including temporary nonmechanical suppression of gastrointestinal motility (known as postoperative ileus), occurs in about 10% surgeries of abdominal tumors. Since these complications can prolong hospitalization and affect eating, it is important to understand their risk factors and identify effective interventions to manage or prevent them. The present review comprehensively examined the relevant literature to describe risk factors for postoperative ileus and effective interventions.

Investigating the interaction between Mast cells (MCs) and Mononuclear Phagocytes (MPs) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of blader cancer (BCa) to uncover potential immunotherapeutic targets. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq) was conducted on 12 BCa patients to identify distinct subgroups of MCs and MPs. Transcriptome data was analyzed to characterize the phenotype, gene enrichment, cell-cell communication, and biological processes.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major global health challenge with a need for new biomarkers and therapeutic targets. This work investigated the biological mechanisms and clinical value of Ly1 antibody reactive (LYAR) in CRC. We analyzed LYAR mRNA expression across multiple public databases, including genotype-tissue expression, gene expression omnibus, Oncomine, and the cancer genome atlas, alongside in-house immunohistochemical data to evaluate LYAR protein expression in CRC and non-CRC colorectal tissues.

The controversy surrounding whether serum total cholesterol is a risk factor for the graded progression of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) has prompted this study to develop an authentic prediction model using a machine learning (ML) algorithm. The objective was to investigate whether serum total cholesterol plays a significant role in the progression of KOA. This cross-sectional study utilized data from the public database DRYAD.

Background: This study aimed to assess the impact of peritoneal drainage and its type on prognosis, encompassing postoperative recovery and complications, in pediatric patients (≤ 16 years old) following appendectomy based on the grade of appendicitis.
Methods: In this retrospective study, we analyzed pediatric patients (≤ 16 years old) with appendicitis who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria in our center from January 2017 to January 2024 and classified them into grade I-V based on the grade of appendicitis, with V representing the most serious cases. The patients were grouped according to drainage status and type.

Different delivery methods can cause variations in the composition and structure of intestinal microbiota in neonates. However, the impact of the microecological environment on host immune function requires further investigation. In this study, 75 healthy neonates were divided into two groups: vaginal delivery group (n = 36) and cesarean section group (n = 39).

Collagen hydrogel has been shown promise as an inducer for chondrogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), contributing to the repair of cartilage defects. However, the precise molecular mechanism underlying this phenomenon remains poorly elucidated. Here, we induced chondrogenic differentiation of BMSCs using collagen hydrogel and identified 4451 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) through transcriptomic sequencing.

The long arm of the Y chromosome (Yq) contains many amplified and palindromic sequences that are prone to self-reorganization during spermatogenesis, and tiny submicroscopic segmental deletions in the proximal Yq are called Y chromosome microdeletions (YCM). A retrospective study was conducted on male infertility patients of Zhuang ethnicity who presented at Reproductive Medical Center of Nanning between January 2015 and May 2023. Seminal fluid was collected for standard examination.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is characterized by the decreased function and number of nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) caused by excessive intervertebral disc (IVD) pressure. This research aims to provide novel insights into IDD prevention and treatment by clarifying the effect of andrographolide (ANDR) on IDD cell autophagy and oxidative stress under mechanical stress. Human primary NPCs were extracted from the nucleus pulposus tissue of non-IDD trauma patients.

Objective: This study aimed to discuss the distinctive features of the intestinal microbiota in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia and to comprehensively analyse the composition of the intestinal microbiota as well as the levels of free amino acids and acylcarnitines in the peripheral blood of neonates experiencing hyperbilirubinemia.
Results: At the phylum level, Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Chloroflexi were the five predominant microbial groups identified in both the hyperbilirubinemia and control groups. Alpha diversity analysis, encompassing seven indices, showed no statistically significant differences between the two groups.

Osteosarcoma (OS) stands as the most prevalent primary bone cancer in children and adolescents, and its limited treatment options often result in unsatisfactory outcomes, particularly for metastatic cases. The tumor microenvironment (TME) has been recognized as a crucial determinant in OS progression. However, the intercellular dynamics between high TP53-expressing OS cells and neighboring cell types within the TME are yet to be thoroughly understood.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus is an immunologically dysregulated disease characterized by the presence of multiple autoantibodies. In SLE, B lymphocytes contribute to the dysregulated production of autoantibodies and cytokines. Recently, we discovered that miR-99a-3p binds to both EIF4EBP1 and NCAPG mRNA and that lowering miR-99a-3p can promote B cell autophagy in SLE by increasing EIF4EBP1 expression.

Background: Several epidemiological studies have suggested that gout patients have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease mortality than healthy people. In contrast, the association between gout and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality was not obvious in other studies. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the relative risk for CVD mortality in gout patients in comparison to healthy controls.
