Introduction: Pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) is a congenital anomaly wherein the persistent reflux of the pancreatic juice into the biliary tract induces biliary tract cancer. The prediction criteria for gallbladder carcinogenesis have been reported previously through results obtained from examining carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic cases with the parameters that classified each confluent form in PBM. This study aimed to validate these previous study results and provide new recommendations for gallbladder carcinogenesis prevention.

Recurrent fusion genes involving C11orf95, C11orf95-RELA, have been identified only in supratentorial ependymomas among primary CNS tumors. Here, we report hitherto histopathologically unclassifiable high-grade tumors, under the tentative label of "ependymoma-like tumors with mesenchymal differentiation (ELTMDs)," harboring C11orf95-NCOA1/2 or -RELA fusion. We examined the clinicopathological and molecular features in five cases of ELTMDs.

Background: The association between a preceding malignancy and the onset of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) has been reported in several studies. While the co-existence of ANCA and anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibodies in an individual patient is not a common occurrence, this double-positive disease currently has no optimal treatment method. Herein, we report a case of a double-positive disease involving the sequential development of acute kidney injury (AKI) and diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) in a patient with small cell lung cancer (SCLC).

There is a scarcity of data comparing long-term clinical outcomes between percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with three-vessel coronary artery disease (3VD) in the new-generation drug-eluting stents era. CREDO-Kyoto PCI/CABG registry Cohort-3 enrolled 14927 consecutive patients who had undergone first coronary revascularization with PCI or isolated CABG between January 2011 and December 2013. We identified 2525 patients with 3VD (PCI: n = 1747 [69%], and CABG: n = 778 [31%]).

Introduction: There is a paucity of data on the influence of low body weight on clinical outcomes in patients with acute venous thromboembolism (VTE).
Materials And Methods: The COMMAND VTE registry is a multicenter cohort study enrolling 3027 consecutive patients with acute symptomatic VTE. The current study population consisted of 2778 patients with available body weight value, who were divided into 2 groups; 1705 patients with lower body weight (≤60 kg) and 1073 patients with higher body weight (>60 kg).
Objective: Stenting is an established endoscopic therapy for malignant gastric outlet obstruction (mGOO). The choice of stent (covered vs uncovered) has been examined in prior randomised studies without clear results.
Design: In a multicentre randomised prospective study, we compared covered (CSEMS) with uncovered self-expandable metal stents (UCSEMS) in patients with mGOO; main outcomes were stent dysfunction and patient survival, with subgroup analyses of patients with extrinsic and intrinsic tumours.

MDA5 is a cytoplasmic sensor of viral RNA, triggering type I interferon (IFN-I) production. Constitutively active MDA5 has been linked to autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Singleton-Merten syndrome (SMS) and Aicardi-Goutières syndrome (AGS), a genetically determined inflammatory encephalopathy. However, AGS research is challenging due to the lack of animal models.

Ischemia and reperfusion injury (IRI) can occur in any tissue or organ. With respect to liver transplantation, the liver grafts from donors by definition experience transient ischemia and subsequent blood reflow. IRI is a problem not only in organ transplantation but also in cases of thrombosis or circulatory disorders such as mesenteric ischemia, myocardial, or cerebral infarction.

Background: To perform self-care in patients with heart failure (HF), we developed and implemented a new HF point self-care system, which was characterized by 1) the way weight and HF symptoms were scored ("Heart Failure Points") and 2) the timing of consultations defined for both patients and health care providers. We examined the association between the induction of the new system and 1-year outcomes in patients hospitalized for HF.
Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 569 consecutive patients into our study who were admitted for HF treatment at our hospital: 275 patients between November 2011 and October 2013 (before the induction of the self-management system) and 294 patients between November 2015 and October 2017 (after the induction).

Some colorectal cancer patients harboring (fibroblast growth factor receptor) genetic alterations, such as copy number gain, mutation, and/or mRNA overexpression, were selected for enrollment in several recent clinical trials of FGFR inhibitor, because these genetic alterations were preclinically reported to be associated with FGFR inhibitor sensitivity as well as poor prognosis, invasiveness, and/or metastatic potential. However, few enrolled patients were responsive to FGFR inhibitors. Thus, practical strategies are eagerly awaited that can stratify patients for the subset that potentially responds to FGFR inhibitor chemotherapy.
