Previous studies have indicated that histone methylations act as mediators in the relationship between oestrogen receptor (ER) and breast cancer prognosis, yet the mediating role has never been assessed. Therefore, we investigated seven histone methylations (H3K4me2, H3K4me3, H3K9me1, H3K9me2, H3K9me3, H3K27me3 and H4K20me3) to determine whether they mediate the prognostic impact of ER on breast cancer. Tissue microarrays were constructed from 1045 primary invasive breast tumours, and the expressions of histone methylations were examined by immunohistochemistry.

Article Synopsis
  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is commonly used for treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but inadequate treatment can lead to postoperative relapse due to nonlethal temperatures in residual tumors.
  • A study shows that residual tumors after insufficient RFA have increased myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), which contribute to tumor recurrence, and a combined treatment approach using MDSC suppressors and PD-L1 antibodies can enhance immune response.
  • A novel hybrid nano-microliposome is developed to deliver these treatments selectively during RFA, effectively reducing the chance of tumor relapse by activating immune responses and inhibiting compensatory mechanisms in surviving cancer cells.

About 30% of patients with hormone receptor (HR)-positive breast cancers and up to 50% of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive patients develop progression due to treatment resistance, highlighting the need for more differentiated tumor classifications within the breast cancer molecular subtype to optimize the therapies. We aim to examine the roles of histone modification markers. The levels of common repressive histone markers, histone H3 lysine 9 trimethylation (H3K9me3), histone H3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3), and histone H4 lysine 20 trimethylation (H4K20me3), in tumors were evaluated by immunohistochemistry for 914 breast cancer patients.

Association of H3K9me3 with breast cancer prognosis by estrogen receptor status.

Clin Epigenetics

October 2022

School of Public Health, Sun Yat-sen University, 74 Zhongshan 2nd Rd, Guangzhou, 510080, China.

Background: Cellular experiments revealed that a decreased histone H3 lysine 9 trimethylation (H3K9me3) level was associated with the upregulation of oncogenes in breast cancer cells. Moreover, the role of H3K9me3 in breast cancer was closely associated with estrogen receptor (ER) status. Therefore, we aimed to examine the prognostic value of H3K9me3 on breast cancer by ER status.

Background: In the era of immunotherapy, predictive or prognostic biomarkers for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) are urgently needed. Metabolic reprogramming in the tumor microenvironment (TME) is a non-negligible reason for the low therapeutic response to immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy. We aimed to construct a metabolism-related gene prognostic index (MRGPI) for HNSCC bridging metabolic characteristics and antitumor immune cycling and identified the immunophenotype, genetic alternations, potential targeted inhibitors, and the benefit of immunotherapy in MRGPI-defined subgroups of HNSCC.

Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 4E Binding Protein 1 (4EBP1) involved in inhibition of protein translation and synthesis. However, the phosphoprotein of 4EBP1 (p-4EBP1) promotes the translation and synthesis of several proteins, including multiple classic oncogenic proteins. The prognostic significance of 4EBP1 mRNA, 4EBP1 protein, and p-4EBP1 in Pan-cancer are still unclear.

Glutaminase 1 (GLS) is a therapeutic target for breast cancer; although GLS inhibitors have been developed, only a few subjects responded well to the therapy. Considering that the expression of histone H3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) and menopausal status was closely linked to GLS, we examined the effects of H3K27me3 and menopausal status on GLS to breast cancer prognosis. Data for 962 women diagnosed with primary invasive breast cancer were analyzed.

The R614E mutation of mouse Mx1 protein contributes to the novel antiviral activity against classical swine fever virus.

Vet Microbiol

April 2020

MOE Joint International Research Laboratory of Animal Health and Food Safety, College of Veterinary Medicine, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, 210095, China. Electronic address:

Mx proteins are interferon-induced GTPases that have broad antiviral activity against a wide range of RNA and DNA viruses. We previously demonstrated that porcine Mx1 protein (poMx1) inhibited the replication of classical swine fever virus (CSFV), an economically important Pestivirus, and that mouse Mx1 did so as well. It is unknown why the nucleus-localizing mouse Mx1 inhibits CSFV replication which occurs in the cytoplasm.
