We aim to explore low-risk MDS patients' ESA response and the difference between iron-overloaded (IO) group and the control group in the expression of SOCS1, STAT5 and BCL2L1 which play a key role to EPO-STAT5 signal pathway. 56 low-risk MDS patients were divided into experimental group, IO patients; control group, non-IO patients. Among experimental group, 28 IO patients were treated with iron chelation therapy (ICT).

Despite the improvement in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treatments, most patients had a poor prognosis and suffered from chemoresistance and disease relapse. Therefore, there is an urgent need for elucidation of mechanism(s) underlying drug resistance in AML. In the present study, we found that AML cells showed less susceptibility to adriamycin (ADR) in the presence of hypoxia, while inhibition of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) by CdCl can make AML cells re-susceptibile to ADR even under hypoxia.

Interventional therapies, such as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and endovascular stent implantation, are used widely for the treatment of diabetic peripheral vascular complications. Reendothelialization is an essential process in vascular injury following interventional therapy, and hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus (DM) plays an important role in damaging endothelial layer integrity, leading to the retardance of reendothelialization and excessive neointimal formation. Notoginsenoside Fc (Fc), a novel saponin isolated from , effectively counteracts platelet aggregation.

Few studies so far have focused on the retrocochlear lesions in Meniere's disease (MD). This study aims to investigate pathological alterations in the central portion of the vestibular nerve (VN) in patients with intractable Meniere's disease (MD) and to explore retrocochlear lesions and their relationship with disease severity. Eight MD patients with refractory vertigo received vestibular neurectomy via a retrosigmoid or translabyrinthine approach.

Objective: Aging is a major risk factor for osteoarthritis (OA). Skeletal expression and activity of the glucocorticoid-activating enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenase type 1 increases progressively with age in humans and rodents. Here we investigated the role of endogenous osteocytic and osteoblastic glucocorticoid (GC) signalling in the development of osteoarthritic bone and cartilage damage in mice.

The activity of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1R) is essential for preventing restenosis following vascular injury; however, the mechanism of dysfunctional GLP-1R glycosylation and ways to enhance the activity of GLP-1R on vascular surfaces in diabetic patients are poorly understood. In the present study, we investigated the N-glycosylation level and role of stress-associated endoplasmic reticulum protein 1 (SERP1) in preventing restenosis following carotid injury in diabetic rats. Our results showed that N-glycosylation levels in both rat aortic endothelial cells (RAOECs) and rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) decreased gradually following glucose treatment in a concentration dependant manner.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) cells undergo apoptosis in the presence of the small-molecule inhibitor ABT-263 by up-regulating antiapoptotic Bcl-2 family members. However, the resistance to ABT-263 gradually developed in most solid tumors due to its low affinity to Mcl-1. Here, we found the BET-Bromodomain inhibitor JQ1, when combined with ABT-263, synergistically reduced Mcl-1 protein level, induced apoptosis, and decreased cell viability in the CRC HCT-15, HT-29 and SW620 cells.

Terminal erythroid differentiation and its regulation occurs in the bone marrow specialized structure termed erythroblastic islands. The role of macrophages in erythropoiesis is closely related with the integrity of erythroblastic island, which is reliant on adhesive interactions between erythroid and macrophage cells. In regulating red blood cell homeostasis of adult, macrophages have 2 major roles, retaining erythroblast in bone marrow, controlling the final maturation of erythroblasts into reticulocytes and clearing old erythrocytes.

Excessive proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs) and delayed proliferation and migration of endothelial cells(ECs) were the main cause of restenosis after endovascular interventional therapy. Since tacrolimus has proved to be more sensitive to inhibiting VSMCs' proliferation, and platelet-derived growth factor-BB(PDGF-BB) benefitted ECs' and VSMCs' proliferation, this study was aimed to identify combined effect of tacrolimus and PDGF-BB, investigate any mechanisms underneath and demonstrate combined effect of two drugs in vivo. As the results showed we confirmed differential effect of PDGF-BB and tacrolimus on ECs and VSMCs.

Electroacupuncture (EA) has been demonstrated to promote the functional recovery of neurons following spinal cord injury (SCI); however, the mechanisms underlying its effects have yet to be elucidated. The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway has been implicated in the regulation of the balance between growth, proliferation and differentiation of neural precursor cells. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of EA therapy on Wnt/β‑catenin‑regulated gene expression and neuronal recovery in rats with SCI.

GATAD2A (GATA zinc finger domain containing 2A), is a subunit of NuRP (nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylation) which plays key roles in tumor growth inhibition and embryonic development. However, its role in thyroid cancer remains unclear. In our study, we established two thyroid cancer cell lines by lentivirus-delivered short hairpin (shRNA) to knockdown the expression of GATAD2A.

Ribosomal proteins are key elements of protein synthesis machinery, ribosome. Besides the essential role in ribosome assembly and protein synthesis, there are lots of extraribosomal functions for ribosomal proteins, ranging from regulating cell proliferation and apoptosis to mediating DNA repair, cellular development and differentiation. Based on the typical features of hematologic system, the ribosomal proteins are related with many hematologic diseases, such as Diamond-Blackfan anemia, 5q- syndrome.

Cucurbitacin E (CuE), a potent member of triterpenoid family isolated from plants, has been confirmed as an antitumour agent by inhibiting proliferation, migration and metastasis in diverse cancer. However, the effects and mechanisms of CuE on osteosarcoma (OS) have not been well understood. The present study aimed to test whether CuE could inhibit growth and invasion of OS cells and reveal its underlying molecular mechanism.
