Electronic address:

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious airborne communicable disease caused by organisms of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) complex. Although the standard treatment antimicrobials, including isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol, have made great progress in the treatment of TB, problems including the rising incidence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB), the severe toxicity and side effects of antimicrobials, and the low immunity of TB patients have become the bottlenecks of the current TB treatments. Therefore, both safe and effective new strategies to prevent and treat TB have become a top priority.

Chimeric antigen receptor-based immunotherapy in breast cancer: Recent progress in China.

Cancer

April 2024

Department of Breast Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Breast cancer (BC) is the fourth most prevalent cancer in China. Despite conventional treatment strategies, BC patients often have poor therapeutic outcomes, leading to significant global cancer mortality rates. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-based immunotherapy is a promising and innovative approach for cancer treatment that redirects immune cells to attack tumor cells expressing selected tumor antigens (TAs).

The value of computed tomography perfusion deficit volumes in acute isolated brainstem infarction.

Front Neurol

October 2023

Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Imaging Diagnosis and Minimally Invasive Intervention Research, The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Lishui Hospital of Zhejiang University, Lishui, China.

Purpose: Diagnosis of acute isolated brainstem infarction is challenging owing to non-specific, variable symptoms, and the effectiveness of non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) is poor owing to limited spatial resolution and artifacts. Computed tomography perfusion (CTP) imaging parameters are significantly associated with functional outcomes in posterior circulation acute ischemic stroke; however, the role of CTP in isolated brainstem infarction remains unclear. We aimed to determine the value of CTP imaging parameters in predicting functional outcomes for affected patients.

Malignant hyperthermia: Report on a successful rescue of a case with the highest temperature of 44.2°C.

Open Med (Wars)

October 2023

Department of Anesthesiology, Lishui City People's Hospital, The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, No. 15, Dazhong Street, Lishui, Zhejiang, 323000, China.

Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is an inherited skeletal muscle disorder caused primarily by a genetic mutation, usually in the calcium channel gene of the muscle. This mutation can lead to muscle hypersensitivity to volatile anesthetics (such as sevoflurane) and the depolarizing muscle relaxant succinylcholine, resulting in hyperthermia, muscle stiffness, metabolic disturbances, and other severe physiological reactions. This condition may prove fatal unless it is recognized in its early stages and treatment is administered promptly and aggressively.

Grape seed proanthocyanidins regulate mitophagy of endothelial cells and promote wound healing in mice through p-JNK/FOXO3a/ROS signal pathway.

Arch Biochem Biophys

November 2023

Institute of Life Sciences, Engineering Laboratory of Zhejiang Province for Pharmaceutical Development of Growth Factors, Biomedical Collaborative Innovation Center of Wenzhou, Wenzhou University, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Skin wound healing is a dynamic and complex process that involves multiple physiological and cellular events. Grape seed proanthocyanidins (GSP) have strong anti-oxidation and elimination of oxygen free radicals, and have been shown to significantly promote wound healing, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Studies have indicated that reactive oxygen species (ROS) acts as an upstream signal to induce mitophagy, suggesting that GSP can regulate mitophagy through the signal pathway.

Electronic address:

Radiotherapy (RT) is the mainstay treatment modality for lung cancer. We recently reported that conventionally fractionated radiotherapy (CRT) with daily fractionation of 2Gy significantly increased the activity of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO1), a known immune checkpoint, which predicted poorer long-term survival in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), while stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) using fractionation size of 10Gy did not increase IDO1 activity and had better survival. Here we hypothesized that the hypofractionated SBRT kind of dose fraction stimulates host antitumor immunity via downregulating IDO1 in which CRT could not.
