This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the risk factors associated with bone cement leakage (LCK) during the surgical management of spinal metastases, construct a joint risk model for predictive assessment, and validate the clinical applicability of the risk model in an independent patient cohort. A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent surgery for spinal metastases between February 2022 and June 2023. Patients were divided into a non-LCK group (n=134) and an LCK group (n=86) based on the presence or absence of bone cement leakage after surgery.

In order to explore the surface state modulation mechanism of carbon dots (CDs) with high quantum yield (QY) and high product yield (PY), CDs were synthesized from different carbon sources with different contents of oxygen-containing functional groups and different silane coupling agents with nitrogen-containing functional groups. The highest QY of as-prepared CDs can reach 97.32% and the PY values of CDs are all high ranging from 46.

Aims: CD4 T cell count and optimal timing of antiretroviral therapy (ART) during tuberculosis (TB) treatment are challenging. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the association of CD4 T cell count and timing of ART initiation with immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) and all-cause mortality of patients co-infected with HIV/TB.

Methods: We conducted an electronic search of clinical studies dated from January 1980 to December 2019 in PubMed and EMBASE.

MicroRNAs play important roles in the initiation and progression of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This study aimed to detect serum miR-203 expression levels in AML and explore its potential clinical significance. Quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed to measure the serum miR-203 levels in 134 patients with AML and 70 healthy controls.

Department of Biomedical Engineering, Research Center for Nano-Biomaterials & Regenerative Medicine, College of Biomedical Engineering, Taiyuan University of Technology Taiyuan 030024 PR China

In this paper, a well-developed porous carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced polyvinyl alcohol/biphasic calcium phosphate (PVA/BCP) scaffold was fabricated by a freeze-thawing and freeze-drying method. The microstructure, mechanical properties and the composition of the scaffolds were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results illustrate that after the incorporation of CNTs, the compressive strength of the hydrogels (moisture state) reached 81 ± 6 kPa, presenting a significantly higher value than that of pure PVA/BCP hydrogels (48 ± 2 kPa).

Objective: This study aimed to investigate effects of microbubble-enhanced ultrasound (MEUS) combined with prothrombin on microwave ablation (MWA) on VX2 liver tumors in a rabbit model.

Methods: 80 rabbits with VX2 liver tumors were randomly divided into Group A (sham + NS), Group B (sham + NS + P), Group C (MEUS), and Group D (PMEUS). After treatment, targeted liver tumors were ablated with MWA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed six cases of rhino-orbital endoscopic surgeries using the Fusion electromagnetic system to assess the efficacy of image-guided techniques.
  • Key metrics recorded included preparation time for navigation (average 8.13 mins), surgical accuracy (within 1 mm), and outcomes, which showed no serious complications.
  • Findings suggest that this technique enhances accuracy and safety in microinvasive surgeries, but emphasizes that it cannot replace a surgeon’s expertise and anatomical knowledge.

Angiotensin-(1-7) [Ang-(1-7)] is a multifunctional bioactive angiotensin peptide which exerts a cardiovascular protective function mainly by opposing the effects of angiotensin II. We aimed to determine whether brain Ang-(1-7) regulates nitric oxide (NO) and neurotransmitter levels in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN), and influences sympathetic activity, blood pressure and cardiac hypertrophy in salt-sensitive hypertension. Dahl salt-sensitive rats receiving a high-salt (HS, 8% NaCl) or a normal-salt (NS, 0.

Airway smooth muscle (ASM) cell proliferation and migration play important roles in airway remodeling in asthma. In vitro platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) induced ASM cell proliferation and migration. Baicalin is one of flavonoid extracts from Scutellaria baicalensis, which has an anti-asthma effect.

Calcineurin is a key protein phosphatase required for hyphal growth and virulence in Aspergillus fumigatus, making it an attractive antifungal target. However, currently available calcineurin inhibitors, FK506 and cyclosporine A, are immunosuppressive, limiting usage in the treatment of patients with invasive aspergillosis. Therefore, the identification of endogenous inhibitors of calcineurin belonging to the calcipressin family is an important parallel strategy.
