Complex wound repair due to tumor recurrence and infection following tumor resection presents significant clinical challenges. In this study, a bifunctional nanocomposite immune hydrogel dressing, SerMA-LJC, is developed to address the issues associated with repairing infected damaged tissues and preventing tumor recurrence. Specifically, the immune dressing is composed of methacrylic anhydride-modified sericin (SerMA) and self-assembled nanoparticles (LJC) containing lonidamine (Lon), JQ1, and chlorine e6 (Ce6).

Department of Critical Care Medicine, Jingzhou Central Hospital, The Second Clinical Medical College of Yangtze University, No. 60, Jingzhong Road, Jingzhou District, Jingzhou City, 434020, Hubei, China.

Sepsis is mainly caused by infection, and inflammation plays a vital role in the progression of sepsis. Increasing evidence shows the regulatory mechanism of long non-coding RNA growth arrest-specific 5 (GAS5) in inflammatory response. However, the potential role of GAS5 in sepsis was not really clear.

Primary mediastinal yolk sac tumors (PMYSTs) are a rare occurrence. As such, the clinicopathological features, treatment, and prognosis, of this disease still remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to provide further information relating to this rare malignancy in order to facilitate the creation of more specific clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with PMYSTs.

Background: Cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury (CIRI) affects bodily function by causing irreversible damage to brain cells. The diverse pathophysiological course factors hinder the research work to go deeper. Long noncoding RNA taurine-upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) has been reported to be related to CIRI.

Phrenic nerve block during nonintubated video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery: a single-centre, double-blind, randomized controlled trial.

Sci Rep

June 2021

Department of Anesthesiology, Shenzhen People's Hospital (The Second Clinical Medical College, Jinan University; The First Affiliated Hospital, Southern University of Science and Technology), Shenzhen, 518020, Guangdong Province, China.

There has been interest in the use of nonintubated techniques for video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in both awake and sedated patients. The authors' centre developed a nonintubated technique with spontaneous ventilation for use in a patient under general anaesthesia using a phrenic nerve block. This treatment was compared with a case-matched control group.

Background: Rotator cuff injury is the most common cause of shoulder dysfunction. Despite the continuous advancement of surgical techniques, the incidence of re-tearing after rotator cuff repair is still high. The main reason is that it is difficult to reconstruct the normal tendon bone interface and the process is slow, and the application of tissue engineering technology can promote tendon and bone healing.

Targeted MEK inhibition by cobimetinib enhances doxorubicin's efficacy in osteosarcoma models.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

August 2020

Department of Orthopaedics, Jingzhou Central Hospital, the Second Clinical Medical College of Yangtze University, Jingzhou, Hubei, China.

The limited effectiveness and high toxicity of current treatments in osteosarcoma necessitate new therapeutic strategy. Cobimetinib is a FDA-approved MEK inhibitor and is clinically used in combination with standard of care to treat melanomas. Here, we report that targeted MEK inhibition by cobimetinib enhances doxorubicin's efficacy in osteosarcoma models.

Advantages of gross total resection in patients with astrocytoma: A population-based study.

Oncol Lett

June 2020

Department of General Practice, Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai 200072, P.R. China.

The present study aimed to investigate the association between surgical methods and survival outcomes in patients with astrocytoma. Patients diagnosed with astrocytoma between January 2004 and December 2015 were identified using the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression were used to analyze the effects of surgical methods on overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS).

Long intergenic non-protein-coding RNA 00205 (LINC00205) has been found to play crucial roles in hepatocellular carcinoma progression. In this study, we aimed to determine the expression pattern of LINC00205 in retinoblastoma (RB), to identify its functions in RB progression in detail, and to reveal the underlying mechanisms. Herein, we showed that LINC00205 is highly expressed in RB tissues and cell lines.

AEBP2 is a zinc finger protein and a potential targeting protein for the mammalian Polycomb Repression Complex 2 (PRC2). The role of AEBP2 in the regulation of the migration and development of the neural crest cells through the PRC2-mediated epigenetic mechanism has been well-documented. However, whether AEBP2 plays a role in cancer and how to regulate AEBP2 itself remains largely unknown.

Simvastatin enhances chemotherapy in cervical cancer via inhibition of multiple prenylation-dependent GTPases-regulated pathways.

Fundam Clin Pharmacol

February 2020

Department of Orthopaedics, Jingzhou Central Hospital, The Second Clinical Medical College of Yangtze University, Renmin Road 1, Jingzhou, Hubei, 434020, China.

Aberrant activation of GTPases is common in cervical cancer, and their proper biological functions largely depend on a post-translational modification termed prenylation. Simvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering drug via inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, thereby inhibiting protein prenylation. In this study, we show that simvastatin selectively inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis in cervical cancer cells while sparing normal cervical epithelial cells.

Background: A role for the NLRP3 inflammasome has been reported in various diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis (AS), nephropathy, rheumatism, and others, although limited information is available concerning the role of the NLRP3 inflammasome, interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-18 (IL-18) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and carotid atherosclerosis (CAS). Therefore, this cross-sectional study investigated these inflammatory components in patients with T2DM complicated with carotid atherosclerosis (T2DM + CAS).

Methods: A total of 107 inpatients or outpatients were included,including 81 T2DM + CAS patients and 26 T2DM patients.

Several studies have investigated the relationship between serum and hair nickel (Ni) concentration and breast cancer, but the results were inconsistent. Thus, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the association between serum and hair nickel levels and breast cancer. Nine studies determining the serum nickel levels and six studies evaluating the hair nickel levels were identified in a systematic search of PubMed, China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database, Wanfang, and China Biomedical Literature Service System databases.
