Background: The risk/benefit tradeoff of dual antiplatelet therapy after percutaneous coronary intervention may vary in East Asian patients as compared with their non-East Asian counterparts.
Methods: The double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized TWILIGHT trial (Ticagrelor With Aspirin or Alone in High-Risk Patients After Coronary Intervention) enrolled patients undergoing high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention. After 3 months of treatment with ticagrelor plus aspirin, event-free and adherent patients remained on ticagrelor and were randomly assigned to receive aspirin or placebo for 1 year.

Background & Aims: Our previous study found that platelet counts were positively associated with body fat percentage in human. In the present study, we conducted a reverse translational study to explore the role of platelets in modulating pre-adipocyte proliferation in mice.
Methods: Mouse pre-adipocyte cell line (3T3-L1) and human pre-adipocytes harvested from female subcutaneous fat were used.

Periodontal disease (PD) is an infection-driven chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the inflammation of tooth-supporting tissues and the destruction of the associated alveolar bone. The immune response of the host to periodontal pathogens infection determines the course and progress of the disease. The effects of secreting cytokines interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and interleukin-17 (IL-17) of T helper 1 cells (Th1) and T helper 17 cells (Th17) on the development of periodontitis has attracted much attention.

Periodontal disease is a chronic infectious disease characterized by gingival inflammation and progressive destruction of alveolar bone, and the interaction between plaque microbes and host defense affects the process of the disease. Recent studies have found that autophagy is one of the most primitive host defense responses against pathogenic microbial invasion. Autophagy plays an important role in the development of periodontal disease through such functions as clearing pathogens, regulating inflammatory responses and promoting osteoclast activation to affect bone resorption with inflammatory factors.

Multiple myeloma (MM) remains incurable despite the development and the use of new agents. In our studies, we found that 4-chlorbenzoyl berbamine (BBMD9), a novel synthetic derivative of berbamine, inhibited the proliferation of MM cells in dose- and time-dependent manners. Flow cytometric (FCM) analysis revealed that MM cells were arrested in the G1 phase and that apoptotic cells increased in a time-dependent manner.
