Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remains a challenging cancer type due to its resistance to standard treatments. Immunogenic cell death (ICD) has the potential to activate anti-tumor immunity, presenting a promising avenue for ccRCC therapies.

Methods: We analyzed data from GSE29609, TCGA-KIRC, and GSE159115 to identify ICD-related prognostic genes in ccRCC.

Background: The protein cereblon (CRBN) mediates the antileukemia effect of lenalidomide (Len). Len binds to CRBN, recruits IKZF1/IKZF3, and promotes their ubiquitination and degradation, through which Len exhibits its antileukemia and antimyeloma activity. Therefore, the protein level of CRBN might affect the antiproliferative effect of Len.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is characterized by its aggressive nature and resistance to standard chemotherapy, necessitating the development of new therapeutic approaches. The emergence of natural products and their derivatives has notably influenced cancer treatment, making morusinol, a medicine-derived monomer, a promising candidate. Here, we showed that morusinol exerted antitumor effects on DLBCL in vitro by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest.

January 2025

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Suzhou Mental Health Center, The Affiliated Guangji Hospital of Soochow University, Suzhou, 215000, Jiangsu, China.

Enterovirus 71 (EV-71) is a major pathogenic factor that causes hand, foot, and mouth disease in young children and infants. Given the limited treatments for EV-71 infection, discovering new host factors and understanding the mechanisms involved will aid in combating this viral infection. Neutral sphingomyelinase-2 (nSMase-2, encoded by SMPD3) is a crucial cellular cofactor in viral infection.

Rotator cuff tears are the most common conditions in sports medicine and attract increasing attention. Scar tissue healing at the tendon-bone interface results in a high rate of retears, making it a major challenge to enhance the healing of the rotator cuff tendon-bone interface. Biomaterials currently employed for tendon-bone healing in rotator cuff tears still exhibit limited efficacy.

Background: Hypothyroidism is a common sequela after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has gained prominence in thyroid imaging, leveraging its non-ionizing radiation, high spatial resolution, multiparameter and multidirectional imaging. Few previous studies have investigated the evaluation of radiation-induced thyroid injury by MRI.

Background: White matter hyperintensity (WMH) and brain atrophy, as imaging marker of cerebral small-vessel diseases (CSVD), have a high prevalence and strong prognostic value in stroke. We aimed to explore the association between lymphocyte count, a maker of inflammation, and WMH and brain atrophy in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS).

Methods: A total of 727 AIS patients with lymphocyte count and brain magnetic resonance imaging data were enrolled.

Objective: Inferior pole patellar fractures (IPPFs) pose a significant challenge due to their complex fracture patterns and high risk of complications associated with current treatment methods. This study aims to (1) characterize the fracture patterns of IPPFs using fracture mapping and (2) compare the biomechanical stability and clinical outcomes of treatment with anchor suture with patellar cerclage versus Kirschner-wire tension band combined with patellar cerclage.

Methods: (1) A retrospective analysis was conducted on 61 patients with IPPF.

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Holistic Integrative Management of Gastrointestinal Cancers, Beijing Key Laboratory of Carcinogenesis and Translational Research, Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute, Beijing, China.

Programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) inhibitors plus chemotherapy have been the standard of care in the first-line treatment of advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction (G/GEJ) adenocarcinoma; however, the survival benefits are modest in patients with low programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression. Here we investigated the efficacy and safety of cadonilimab (PD-1/cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) bispecific antibody) plus chemotherapy as first-line treatment in G/GEJ adenocarcinoma. The prespecified interim analysis is reported here.

Preventing moderately severe and severe acute pancreatitis (MSAP & SAP) is the primary goal of the management of hyperlipidemic acute pancreatitis (HLAP). The main aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting serum triglyceride (TG) clearance, particularly blood glucose (GLU) levels, which could potentially help to prevent the development of MSAP & SAP. The clinical data from 177 patients with MSAP & SAP and 195 patients with mild acute pancreatitis (MAP) on days 1-6 after the onset were collected and analyzed by multivariate logistic regression to identify the factors that have an impact on the severity of HLAP, especially TG.
