Transl Androl Urol

November 2024

Department of Urology, Jinling Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, China.

Background: Epididymitis, a common disease of the male reproductive system, is often caused by nonspecific infections. Antibiotics alone cannot reverse histopathological changes or prevent long-term reproductive issues. Lycopene (LYC), a potent antioxidant, has shown potential in alleviating epididymitis, yet its specific mechanisms remain unclear.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is linked to a greater risk of various maternal and fetal complications, including the possibility of long-term metabolic issues in offspring. Our initial research suggests that the Traditional Chinese Medicine formula, Shenling Guchang prescription (SLGP), may have an impact on the gut microbiota. However, the specific mechanisms through which it affects intestinal barrier inflammation in GDM are still not fully understood.

Implementation of a new classification and stratification system for solitary bone tumour: osseous tumour radiological and interpretation and management system.

Br J Radiol

December 2024

Department of Orthopedics, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510080, PR China.

Objectives: To propose a histological-grades-based Osseous Tumor Radiological and Interpretation and Management System (OT-RIMS) that would simplify the radiological evaluation of bone tumours, categorize key radiological features into severity levels, and inform corresponding patient management actions.

Methods: This retrospective study between January 2015 and August 2022 evaluated patients with solitary bone tumours confirmed by pathology and imaging follow-up received 2 or 3 imaging modalities of radiographs, CT, or MRI. Three radiologists independently assessed radiological features, categorized bone lesions based on OT-RIMS criteria, and reached a consensus.

October 2024

Guizhou Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Chemical Drug R&D, College of Pharmacy, Guizhou Medical University, Guiyang 561113, China. Electronic address:

Aberrant activation or mutation of the EGFR-PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling pathway has been implicated in a wide range of human cancers, especially non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Thus, dual inhibition of EGFR and PI3K has been investigated as a promising strategy to address acquired drug resistance resulting from the use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors. A series of dual EGFR/PI3Kα inhibitors was synthesized using pharmacophore hybridization of the third-generation EGFR inhibitor olmutinib and the PI3Kα selective inhibitor TAK-117.

Purpose: Renal interstitial fibrosis is a pathological manifestation of the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Dendrobium officinale polysaccharides (DOP), one of the major active components of Dendrobium officinale, have hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects and are used clinically to treat diabetes. However, the role of DOP in delaying DKD progression remains unclear.

Objective: To investigate the correlation of serum and seminal plasma homocysteine (Hcy) levels with semen parameters in men and its effect on recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) in their spouses.

Methods: The study included 103 males subjects undergoing preconception examination in the reproduction center from March 2022 to June 2023. According to whether their spouses had a history of RSA or not, we divided their subjects into an RSA (n = 43) and a non-RSA group (NRSA, n = 60), obtained their serum and seminal plasma Hcy levels and semen parameters, and analyzed their correlation.

Objective: To explore the potential action mechanisms of Xiaoluowan (II) (XLW-II) in the treatment of epididymitis through a network pharmacology approach.

Methods: We searched various databases for relevant targets associated with epididymitis and XLW-II and obtained the common targets of epididymitis and XLW-II on the Venny platform. We acquired the protein-protein interactions (PPI) using the STRING data and had them visualized with the Cytoscape software.

Background: Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma incidence rates vary between European and Asian populations. The reasons remain unclear. This two-sample two-step Mendelian randomisation (MR) study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between anthropometric indicators (AIs) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and follicular lymphoma (FL) and the possible mediating role of basal metabolic rate (BMR) in Europe.

Objective: To investigate the inhibitory effect of oxalis on prostate tumor in the mouse model of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and its action mechanism.

Methods: We established a CRPC model in 40 male C57/BL mice aged 6-8 weeks, divided them randomly into four groups of an equal number, and treated them intragastrically with normal saline (control), low-dose oxalis (5 mg/kg/d), medium-dose oxalis (10 mg/kg/d), and high-dose oxalis (15 mg/kg/d), respectively. After 28 days of treatment, we measured the tumor volume and body weight of the mice in different groups, calculated the tumor-inhibition rate, examined the histomorphological changes of the prostate tumors by HE staining, and detected the expressions of the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway and its downstream proteins in the tumor tissue by immunofluorescence assay.
