Mitochondrial dysfunction is a pivotal event contributing to the development of ageing-related kidney disorders. Lon protease 1 (LONP1) has been reported to be responsible for ageing-related renal fibrosis; however, the underlying mechanism(s) of LONP1-driven kidney ageing with respect to mitochondrial disturbances remains to be further explored. The level of LONP1 was tested in the kidneys of aged humans and mice.

The early diagnosis of liver cancer is crucial for the treatment and depends on the coordinated use of several test procedures. Early diagnosis is crucial for precision therapy in the treatment of the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Therefore, in this study, the NK cell-related gene prediction model was used to provide the basis for precision therapy at the gene level and a novel basis for the treatment of patients with liver cancer.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and clinical outcomes of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) for treating iridocorneal endothelial (ICE) syndrome with a glaucoma drainage device (GDD).
Methods: In this retrospective, interventional case series, data of ICE eyes with a GDD treated with DMEK were collected at the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center. A total of 24 patients (24 eyes) with mild-to-moderate ocular anterior segment anomalies together with good intraocular pressure (IOP) control preoperatively were included between March 10, 2014, and November 11, 2021.

Aging is a significant risk factor for the increased incidence of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, posing significant challenges to global public health. The role of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) in the development of chronic kidney disease has been reported, but the regulatory mechanism of m6A in kidney aging remains unclear. In this study, we identified a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), called taurine up-regulated 1 (TUG1), which exhibited a significantly decreased level of m6A modification in human aged kidney through the m6A-lncRNA epitranscriptome microarray.

Yolk sac macrophages are the first to seed the developing heart, however we have no understanding of their roles in human heart development and function due to a lack of accessible tissue. Here, we bridge this gap by differentiating human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) into primitive LYVE1 macrophages (hESC-macrophages) that stably engraft within contractile cardiac microtissues composed of hESC-cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts. Engraftment induces a human fetal cardiac macrophage gene program enriched in efferocytic pathways.

As numerous countries around the world have entered an aging society currently, understanding the impact of aging on human health becomes critically important. Notably, aging is associated with increased prevalence of age-related diseases, with the lungs being particularly susceptible. Aging contributes to a decline in lung function, including respiratory disorders, inflammation, and oxidative stress.

The glomerular podocyte, a terminally differentiated cell, is crucial for the integrity of the glomerular filtration barrier. The re-entry of podocytes into the mitotic phase results in injuries or death, known as mitotic catastrophe (MC), which significantly contributes to the progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Furthermore, P62-mediated autophagic flux has been shown to regulate DN-induced podocyte injury.

Background: This study evaluated the effect of microvesicles(MVs) from quiescent and TGF-β1 stimulated hepatic stellate cells (HSC-MVs, TGF-β1HSC-MVs) on H2O2-induced human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) injury and CCl4-induced rat hepatic vascular injury.
Methods: HUVECs were exposed to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to establish a model for vascular endothelial cell injury. HSC-MVs or TGF-β1HSC-MVs were co-cultured with H2O2-treated HUVECs, respectively.

In recent years, the use of arsenic trioxide (ATO) in the context of ovarian cancer chemotherapy has attracted significant attention. However, ATO's limited biocompatibility and the occurrence of severe toxic side effects hinder its clinical application. A nanoparticle (NP) drug delivery system using ATO as a therapeutic agent is reported in this study.

The application of wearable electroencephalogram (EEG) devices is growing in brain-computer interfaces (BCI) owing to their good wearability and portability. Compared with conventional devices, wearable devices typically support fewer EEG channels. Devices with few-channel EEGs have been proven to be available for steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP)-based BCI.

Endothelial hyperpermeability is pivotal in sepsis-associated multi-organ dysfunction. Increased von Willebrand factor (vWF) plasma levels, stemming from activated platelets and endothelium injury during sepsis, can bind to integrin αvβ3, exacerbating endothelial permeability. Hence, targeting this pathway presents a potential therapeutic avenue for sepsis.

Objective: Insulin attaches insulin receptor to activate the PI3-kinase/Akt signaling to maintain glucose homeostasis and inhibit apoptosis. This study determined whether preconditioning with insulin and glucose protects the kidney against ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI).
Methods: Kidney IRI was performed in C57BL/6 mice by clamping the renal vessels for 30 min, followed by reperfusion for 24 h.

The incidence of multiple primary tumors(MPTs) is on the rise in recent years, but patients having four or more primary tumors is still rare. Lynch syndrome (LS) patients have a high risk of developing MPTs. NGS sequencing could identify the genetic alterations in different tumors to make a definite diagnosis of uncommon cases in clinical practice.

Objective: To investigate the causal effect of immune cells on endometriosis (EMS), we performed a Mendelian randomization analysis.
Methods: Mendelian randomization (MR) uses genetic variants as instrumental variables to investigate the causal effects of exposures on outcomes in observational data. In this study, we conducted a thorough two-sample MR analysis to investigate the causal relationship between 731 immune cells and endometriosis.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a fatal disease featured by high morbidity and mortality. Although Cordycepin is known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-enhancing effects, its role in PAH treatment and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The therapeutic effects of Cordycepin on rats with PAH were investigated using a monocrotaline (MCT)-induced rat model.

Hyperpigmentation (HP) is an unfavorable skin disease that typically caused by injury, inflammation, or photoaging and leads to numerous physical and psychological issues in patients. Recently, development and application of natural whitening substances, particularly compound curcumin (CUR), is one of the most prevalent treatments for HP. However, it is still a formidable challenge to improve the percutaneous delivery of CUR due to its inadequate solubility in water and excellent barrier function of skin.

Background: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a heritable condition with an as yet unclear etiology. Various factors, such as genetics, lifestyle, environment, inflammation, insulin resistance, hyperandrogenism, iron metabolism, and gut microbiota, have been proposed as potential contributors to PCOS. Nevertheless, a systematic assessment of modifiable risk factors and their causal effects on PCOS is lacking.

This study aimed to estimate the effects of the volume of preperitoneal balloon (PPB) on arterial and venous hemorrhage in a swine pelvic fracture model. Twenty-four swine were randomized into 0-mL, 500-mL, 800-mL, and 1000-mL intra-hematoma PPB groups. They were subjected to open-book pelvic fracture and reproducible injuries in the external iliac artery and vein.
