Aim: There have been few reports regarding the association between 1 h-PG concentration and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the elderly. This study was performed to assess the efficacy of 1 h-PG and 2 h-PG values in predicting future risk of T2DM in elderly.
Methods: The study population consisted of 928 male volunteers ≥ 55 years old without diabetes who were involved in a retrospective-prospective cohort study over 20 years with a baseline fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and OGTT that included measurement of 1 h-PG and 2 h-PG.

Objective: To analyze the morphological changes in the upper airway of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) patients treated with oral appliance in skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion with different vertical features by using cone beam CT (CBCT).
Methods: Thirty-six patients diagnosed with OSAS by polysomnography and daytime sleepiness scale and skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion were treated with oral appliance for 4 months. The changes based on CBCT in the morphology of glossopharyngeal and palatopharyngeal before and after treatment in OSAS patients with different vertical features were compared.

To remedy the lack of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-matched donors and address the problems bedeviling traditional allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation which induces the resultant graft-versus-host disease, we designed a scheme called HLA-mismatched hematopoietic stem cell microtransplantation (MST) for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), where encouraging results were achieved. In providing answers to such questions as how to select the donors of MST and which factors were involved in the outcome of MST. One hundred thirty-one AML patients from four centers with lower or standard risk of prognosis after complete remission were given three courses of MST: high dose of cytarabine plus infusion of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor mobilized peripheral blood stem cells from HLA-mismatched donors.

Neural precursor cell-expressed, developmentally-downregulated 9 (NEDD9) is a multi-domain skeleton protein that serves an important role in the cell signaling process via modulating invasion, metastasis, proliferation and apoptosis of tumor cells. The present study identified that the expression levels of NEDD9 in colorectal cancer were elevated. Therefore, the effect of downregulating the expression of NEDD9 in terms of invasion and migration of colorectal cancer cells was investigated and the role of the JNK pathway in these processes was also investigated.

The safety of CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats)-based genome editing in the context of human gene therapy is largely unknown. is a reasonable but not absolutely protective target for a cure of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection, because -null blood cells are largely resistant to HIV-1 entry. We transplanted CRISPR-edited -ablated hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) into a patient with HIV-1 infection and acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) cells possess metabolism profiles, such as higher rates of oxidative phosphorylation and dependence on fatty acid oxidation for survival, and are dependent on the sophisticated regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation for survival, drug resistance and stemness maintenance. We found that sensitivity of primary AML cells to cytarabine correlated with SOD2 acetylation and the ability of the drug to induce mitochondrial ROS. The SOD2 deacetylase, SIRT3, protected AML cells from chemotherapy as shown by inhibited apoptosis via inhibited drug-induced production of mitochondrial ROS.

Excess iron deposition in the brain often causes oxidative stress-related damage and necrosis of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and has been reported to be one of the major vulnerability factors in Parkinson's disease (PD). Iron chelation therapy using deferoxamine (DFO) may inhibit this nigrostriatal degeneration and prevent the progress of PD. However, DFO shows very short half-life in vivo and hardly penetrates the blood brain barrier (BBB).
