Age plays an important role in the decision of definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC): a propensity-score matched analysis of multicenter data (3JECROG R-02A).

Background: To examine the survival benefit of definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) compared to radiotherapy alone in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) using a real-world patient population.

Methods: This retrospective study included 2,762 patients with ESCC across ten medical centers in China from 2001 to 2017. A total of 1,133 patients received radiotherapy alone and 815 patients were treated with CCRT.

Evaluation on Short-Term Therapeutic Effect of 2 Porphyrin Photosensitizer-Mediated Photodynamic Therapy for Esophageal Cancer.

Purpose: To analyze and study the short-term therapeutic effects and main adverse effects of 2 Porphyrin photosensitizer-mediated photodynamic therapy for esophageal cancer.

Methods: We apply the hematoporphyrin derivative and hematoporphyrin injection produced by different manufacturers at different periods as photosensitizers in therapy of 79 esophageal cancer cases, with the administration dosage of 5 mg/kg and intravenous drip 24 hours before irradiation. We apply the gold vapor laser and semiconductor laser, respectively, as treatment light source, with the power density of 100 to 300 mW/cm and energy density of 100 to 300 J/cm.

Solute carrier 34 A2 (SLC34A2) is a member of SLC34 family that is a group of phosphate transporters. SLC34A2 has been reported to play critical roles in tumorigenesis and progression. However, the researches about the biological roles of SLC34A2 in glioma have not yet been reported.

Interaction of aquaporin 4 and N-methyl-D-aspartate NMDA receptor 1 in traumatic brain injury of rats.

Objectives: methyl-D-aspartate NMDA receptor (NMDAR) and aquaporin 4 (AQP4) are involved in the molecular cascade of edema after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and are potential targets of studies in pharmacology and medicine. However, their association and interactions are still unknown.

Materials And Methods: We established a rat TBI model in this study.

Introduction: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory, heterogeneous airway disease affecting millions of people around the world. Dendritic cells (DCs) are considered the most important antigen-presenting cell in asthma airway inflammatory reaction. But whether osteoprotegerin (OPG) mediate RANK/RANKL signaling inhibition influences asthma development by affecting the survival and function of DCs remains unclear.

Combination of plasma white blood cell count, platelet count and C-reactive protein level for identifying surgical necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants without pneumoperitoneum.

Purpose: To evaluate whether plasma white blood cell count (WBC), platelet count (PLT), and C-reactive protein level (CRP) can be used to differentiate surgical necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) from medical NEC.

Methods: Preterm infants admitted between January 1, 2011 and July 31, 2015 were stratified by the need of surgery as surgical NEC (n = 41) and medical NEC (n = 43). The values of WBC, PLT and CRP were collected at time before NEC occurred (T), at onset of NEC (T) and when surgical assessment was required (T).

Microsurgery for patients diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 2 complicated by vestibular schwannomas: Clinical experience and strategy for treatments.

Most patients diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) have bilateral vestibular schwannomas (VS). Through reviewing surgical method and clinical outcomes, we tried to find out a strategy for treatments in NF2 patients with VS.We retrospectively reviewed patients diagnosed pathological NF2 and have had microsurgery (MS) for VS in the PLA Army General Hospital.

DL-3-n-butylphthalide promotes dendrite development in cortical neurons subjected to oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion.

The limited degree of functional recovery is closely associated with the condition of the periinfarct cortex after ischemic stroke. The model of oxygen-glucose deprivation in cultured neurons could partly simulate this condition. Proper dendritic morphology is crucial for the correct wiring of neuronal function.

Aberrant activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling leads to increased cell proliferation and survival and promotes the development of various human tumors, including glioma, one of the most common primary brain tumors. The treatment efficacy of many anticancer drugs remains limited or unsatisfactory and it is urgently necessary to develop effective and low-toxicity anticancer drugs or strategies, especially for glioma. Here, we report that diallyl trisulfide suppresses survival, migration, invasion and angiogenesis in glioma cells.
