Outpatient procedures are extremely prevalent in plastic surgery, with an estimated 82% of cosmetic plastic surgery occurring in this setting. Given that patient safety is paramount, this practical review summarizes major contemporary, evidence-based recommendations regarding office-based plastic surgery. These recommendations not only outline clinical aspects of patient safety guidelines, but administrative, as well, which in combination will provide the reader/practice with a structure and culture that is conducive to the commitment to patient safety.

Background: The impact of transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) on the rate and prognostic impact of hospitalizations in patients with heart failure (HF) and severe secondary mitral regurgitation is unknown.

Objectives: This study sought to evaluate the effect of the MitraClip percutaneous edge-to edge repair system on fatal and nonfatal hospitalizations and their relationship with mortality in the COAPT (Cardiovascular Outcomes Assessment of the MitraClip Percutaneous Therapy for Heart Failure Patients With Functional Mitral Regurgitation) trial.

Petroclival meningiomas are surgically challenging due to the surrounding neurovascular structures. Petroclival meningiomas located inferior to the oculomotor nerve and superior or medial to the abducens nerve are ideal for an endoscopic endonasal transclival approach because this prevents the need to work across cranial nerves, limiting operative risk. The authors present a case of a 45-year-old woman with a growing petroclival meningioma that was distorting the pons.

We examined whether resilience modified associations between allostatic load (AL), a physiological indicator of coping with repeated stressors, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) among 2758 African Americans in the Jackson Heart Study. Baseline AL was quantified using biological measures of metabolic, cardiovascular, and immune markers. We constructed a multidimensional resilience measure using validated questionnaires for social support, social networks, religious experiences, and optimism.

Chromosomal translocations with gene fusions are uniquely rare events in paraganglioma, mostly involving UBTF::MAML3 gene fusion. Precedent literature suggests that tumors involving MAML3 gene fusion correlate with poor clinical outcomes. Herein, we report a case of metastatic sporadic paraganglioma harboring EWSR1::CREM gene fusion in a 36-year-old male, that has not been previously described.

Introduction: Monitoring levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD) is an integral part of bone health assessment in the general pediatric population, especially in at-risk populations such as children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (c-SLE), and juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM). However, only 38% of the patients with JIA, c-SLE, and JDM receiving care at Nationwide Children's Hospital Rheumatology clinic in 2016 had a 25-OHD level ordered in the preceding year. The objective of this project was to increase the percentage of 25-OHD levels ordered in patients with JIA, c-SLE, and JDM from 38% to 80% in 11 months and sustain it for 6 months.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a degenerative disease that progressively destroys motor neurons (MNs). Earlier studies identified EphA4, a receptor tyrosine kinase, as a possible disease-modifying gene.
