Primary liver cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. with incidences predicted to rise over the next several decades. Locoregional therapies, such as radiofrequency or microwave ablation, are described as image-guided percutaneous procedures, which offer either a curative intent for early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma or bridging/downstaging for surgical resection or transplantation.

Introduction: Insertable cardiac monitors (ICMs) are commonly used to diagnose cardiac arrhythmias. False detections in the latest ICM systems remain an issue, primarily due to inaccurate R-wave sensing. New discrimination algorithms were developed and tested to reduce false detections of atrial fibrillation (AF), pause, and tachycardia episodes in ICMs.

Purpose: Chemoprevention with a selective estrogen receptor modulator (tamoxifen or raloxifene) is a non-surgical option offered to high-risk women to reduce the risk of breast cancer. The evidence for tamoxifen benefit is based on trials conducted among predominantly postmenopausal women from the general population and on studies of contralateral breast cancer in women with a pathogenic variant (mutation hereafter) in BRCA1 or BRCA2. Tamoxifen has not been assessed as a primary prevention agent in women with an inherited BRCA mutation.

Objective: Decellularized tracheal grafts possess the biological cues necessary for tissue regeneration. However, conventional decellularization approaches to target the removal of all cell populations including chondrocytes lead to a loss of mechanical support. We have created a partially decellularized tracheal graft (PDTG) that preserves donor chondrocytes and the mechanical properties of the trachea.

Background: Previous studies have established that higher baseline quality of life (QOL) scores are associated with improved survival in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). We examined the relationship between overall survival (OS) and baseline QOL.
Patients And Methods: A total of 1 247 patients with mCRC participating in N9741 (comparing bolus 5-FU/LV, irinotecan [IFL] vs infusional 5-FU/leucovorin [LV]/oxaliplatin [FOLFOX] vs.

Objective: Advancements in tissue-engineered tracheal replacement (TETR) show promise for the use of partially decellularized tracheal grafts (PDTG) to address critical gaps in airway management and reconstruction. In this study, aiming to leverage the immunoprivileged nature of cartilage to preserve tracheal biomechanics, we optimize PDTG for retention of native chondrocytes.
Study Design: Comparison in vivo murine study.

The eIF4E family of translation initiation factors bind 5' methylated caps and act as the limiting step for mRNA translation. The canonical eIF4E1A is required for cell viability, yet other related eIF4E families exist and are utilized in specific contexts or tissues. Here, we describe a family called Eif4e1c, for which we find roles during heart development and regeneration in zebrafish.

Background Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4 and 6 inhibitors have significantly improved survival in patients with hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer. There are few data regarding the epidemiology of cardiovascular adverse events (CVAEs) with these therapies. Methods and Results Using the OneFlorida Data Trust, adult patients without prior cardiovascular disease who received at least 1 CDK4/6 inhibitor were included in the analysis.

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in women, and the second leading cause of cancer death in women in the United States. Radiation therapy is an important component in the multimodal management of breast cancer, including early stage and locally advanced breast cancers, as well as metastatic cases. Breast cancer radiation therapy has seen significant advancements over the past 20 years.

Gastritis related to immunotherapy use is a less commonly reported adverse effect. With increasing use of immunotherapy agents in the management of patients with endometrial cancer, even rare adverse effects are being seen more frequently in gynecologic oncology practice. A 66-year-old with recurrent mismatch repair deficient endometrial cancer was treated with single-agent pembrolizumab.

Objective: To evaluate how pediatric indications for tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy relate to gender, race/ethnicity, and age.
Methods: Included consecutive pediatric patients who underwent tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy from a single tertiary academic institution between 2012 and 2019. Logistic regression analysis was used to measure association between the indication for tonsillectomy and the demographic variables gender, race/ethnicity, and age.

Purpose: To develop a large animal preclinical model of thromboembolic stroke with stable, protracted large vessel occlusion (LVO) utilizing an autologous clot.
Materials And Methods: A reproducible canine model of large vessel occlusion stroke was established by endovascular placement of an autologous clot into the middle cerebral artery (MCA) of six adult hounds and confirmed using digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Infarct volume and evidence of hemorrhage were determined by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) 7 h after occlusion and Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction scale (TICI) was assessed before and after clot placement and at 1, 6, 7, and 9 h after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO).

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated rapid implementation of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in the intensive care unit (ICU). Although rarely reported, perceptions from nursing staff who used the systems are critical for successful implementation and future expanded use of CGM in the inpatient setting.
Methods: A 22-item survey focused on CGM use was distributed to ICU nurses at two large academic medical centers in the United States in 2022.

Primary liver cancer is the fourth most common malignancy worldwide, with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) comprising up to 90% of cases. Imaging is a staple for surveillance and diagnostic criteria for HCC in current guidelines. Because early diagnosis can impact treatment approaches, utilizing new imaging methods and protocols to aid in differentiation and tumor grading provides a unique opportunity to drastically impact patient prognosis.

CD24 is a GPI anchored cell surface glycoprotein whose function as a co-stimulatory molecule has been implicated. However, the function of CD24 on antigen presenting cells during T cell responses is not well understood. Here we show that in the CD24-deficient host, adoptively transferred CD4 T cells undergo inefficient expansion and have accelerated cell death in lymph nodes, which results in insufficient priming of T cells.

Hidradenocarcinoma (HAC) is a rare adnexal tumor associated with the potential for locoregional recurrence and systemic metastasis. The clinical appearance of HAC is nonspecific, frequently presenting as a solitary firm subcutaneous nodule or plaque on the head and neck region or distal extremities. These tumors show histomorphologic heterogeneity, as they can be low and high grade.
