The safety and efficacy of direct-acting antiviral therapies have allowed the transplantation of organs from hepatitis C virus (HCV)-viremic donors into uninfected recipients. This novel strategy contrasts with the previous standard-of-care practice of limiting the transplantation of HCV infected-donor organs to HCV-infected recipients, or all too often, discarding viable organs. In this review, we summarize the published literature about the safety and feasibility of transplanting organs from HCV-viremic donors, the challenges that hinder wider adoption of this strategy, and future research needs.

Esophageal cancer (EC) is the sixth leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide with a low 5-year survival rate. More effective chemotherapeutic drugs, either new or repurposing ones, are urgently needed. Disulfiram (DSF) is a safe and public domain drug for alcohol addiction treatment and later shown to have anti-cancer capability, especially when administrated together with copper.

Introduction: Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare, complex, multisystem disease of dysregulated complement activity, characterized by progressive thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), acute kidney injury, and multiorgan dysfunction, which often progresses to chronic kidney disease. Results from the prospective clinical trial of ravulizumab (NCT02949128) reveal rapid resolution of TMA in patients with aHUS, with sustained efficacy and safety in a 26-week initial evaluation period.
Methods: The aim of this analysis was to characterize the long-term efficacy and the safety profile of ravulizumab in adults with aHUS who had completed the initial evaluation period of the trial.

Analysis of T cell receptor (TCR) repertoires may contribute to better understanding of the response to immunotherapy. By deep sequencing of the TCR β chain complementarity-determining regions in the paired biopsies and peripheral blood specimens of 31 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with anti-programmed death 1 (PD-1) or PD-ligand 1 (PD-L1) therapy, we developed a previously unidentified index, the TCR-based immunotherapy response index (TIR index), that estimated the degree of overlap of the TCR repertoire between tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and circulating PD-1CD8T cells (shared TCR clones). This index correlated with response and survival outcomes of anti-PD-(L)1 treatment.

: Subcutaneous cardiac rhythm monitors (SCRMs) provide continuous ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring for surveillance of known and identification of infrequent arrhythmias. SCRMs have proven to be helpful for the evaluation of unexplained symptoms and correlation with intermittent cardiac arrhythmias. Successful functioning of SCRM is dependent on accurate detection and successful transmission of the data to the device clinic.

The Society for Vascular Surgery clinical practice guidelines on popliteal artery aneurysms (PAAs) leverage the work of a panel of experts chosen by the Society for Vascular Surgery to review the current world literature as it applies to PAAs to extract the most salient, evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of these patients. These guidelines focus on PAA screening, indications for intervention, choice of repair strategy, management of asymptomatic and symptomatic PAAs (including those presenting with acute limb ischemia), and follow-up of both untreated and treated PAAs. They offer long-awaited evidence-based recommendations for physicians taking care of these patients.

Aims: Improved cancer survivorship has led to a higher number of anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy patients with end-stage heart failure. We hypothesize that outcomes following continuous-flow LVAD (CF-LVAD) implantation in those with anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy are comparable with other aetiologies of cardiomyopathy.
Methods And Results: Using the Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (INTERMACS) from 2008 to 2017, we identified patients with anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy who received a CF-LVAD and compared them with those with idiopathic dilated (IDM) and ischaemic cardiomyopathies (ICM).

Standard treatment options in classic HCL (cHCL) result in high response rates and near normal life expectancy. However, the disease itself and the recommended standard treatment are associated with profound and prolonged immunosuppression, increasing susceptibility to infections and the risk for a severe course of COVID-19. The Hairy Cell Leukemia Foundation (HCLF) has recently convened experts and discussed different clinical strategies for the management of these patients.

Background: Left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal strain (GLS) is a sensitive marker of LV function and may help identify patients with heart failure (HF) and secondary mitral regurgitation who would have a better prognosis and are more likely to benefit from edge-to-edge transcatheter mitral valve repair with the MitraClip. The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic utility of baseline LV GLS during 2-year follow-up of patients with HF with secondary mitral regurgitation enrolled in the Cardiovascular Outcomes Assessment of the MitraClip Percutaneous Therapy for Heart Failure Patients with Functional Mitral Regurgitation trial.
Methods: Patients with symptomatic HF with moderate to severe or severe secondary mitral regurgitation who remained symptomatic despite maximally tolerated guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) were randomized to transcatheter mitral valve repair plus GDMT or GDMT alone.

Background: Superb knowledge of surgical anatomy and nuances to remove the natural barriers preventing full access to the paramedian skull base determines the ease of using the expanded sellar/parasellar approaches as the main gateway for all the parasagittal modules during endoscopic endonasal access (EEA) to pituitary tumors with cavernous sinus (CS) invasion.
Methods: Throughout stepwise-cadaveric dissections and pertinent intraoperative analysis, we describe surgical pearls and pitfalls of the parasellar-EEA with special references to the utility of various lines/classifications on neuroimaging correlated with strategies to enhance surgical safety and tumor resection.
Conclusion: EEA to invasive parasellar pathologies needs to address strict bleeding control and displacement of neurovascular structures inside the CS, posing a chance for neurologic morbidities/ICA injury.

Strategies have not been available until recently to uncover interacting protein networks specific to key cell types, their subcellular compartments, and their major regulators during complex in vivo events. Here, we apply BioID2 proximity labeling to capture protein networks acting within cardiomyocytes during a key model of innate heart regeneration in zebrafish. Transgenic zebrafish expressing a promiscuous BirA2 localized to the entire myocardial cell or membrane compartment were generated, each identifying distinct proteomes in adult cardiomyocytes that became altered during regeneration.
