Background/aims: Mouthguards can reduce the risk of sports-related injuries such as tooth fracture or avulsion, but the sheet material and thickness have a large effect on their efficacy and safety. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the continuous use of a vacuum-forming machine on mouthguard thickness.
Materials And Methods: Ethylene vinyl acetate sheets and olefin copolymer sheets were used for thermoforming with a vacuum-forming machine.

The aim of this study was to histologically evaluate direct pulp capping using different all-in-one adhesives in rat teeth. Five all-in-one adhesives and a control material (MTA) were used. Each material was applied on the exposed pulp, and each cavity was subsequently restored with the resin composite.

We examined shear bond strengths (SBSs) of various tooth-coating-materials including the experimental materials to dentin and demineralization resistance of a fractured adhesive surface after the SBS testing. Three resin-type tooth-coating-materials (BC, PRG Barrier Coat; HC, Hybrid Coat II; and SF, Shield force plus) and two glass-ionomer-type tooth-coating-materials (CV, Clinpro XT Varnish; and FJ, Fuji VII) were selected. The experimental PRG Barrier Coat containing 0, 17, and 33 wt% S-PRG filler (BC0, BC17, and BC33, respectively) were developed.

The collagen gel droplet-embedded culture drug sensitivity test (CD-DST) is an anticancer drug sensitivity test that uses a method of three-dimensional culture of extremely small samples, and it is suited to primary cultures of human cancer cells. It is a useful method for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), in which the cancer tissues available for testing are limited. However, since the optimal contact concentrations of anticancer drugs have yet to be established in OSCC, CD-DST for detecting drug sensitivities of OSCC is currently performed by applying the optimal contact concentrations for stomach cancer.

Background: Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derivative mainly composed of fibrin networks, has been increasingly demonstrated to be effective in wound healing in clinical and pre-clinical animal studies. However, there has still been a concern that major growth factors may significantly be loss from PRF during its preparation through the slow clotting process. To address this concern, we compared the angiogenic potential of PRF and PRP by standardization of procedures based on volume ratios.

Purpose: To assure the quality of cells to be used in cell therapy, we examined the applicability of digital holographic microscopy (DHM) for non-invasive, quantitative assessment of changes in cell morphology.
Materials And Methods: Mesenchymal stem cells derived from adipose tissue (MSC-AT) and bone marrow (MSC-BM), in addition to human alveolar periosteal cells (PC) as a reference, were γ-ray irradiated (1 and 4 Gy), and their morphological changes were quantified without fixation using holographic microscopy. After detachment and fixation with ethanol, cell number and surface antigen expression were determined using an automated cell counter kit and flow-cytometry, respectively.

We sought to develop dual-modality imaging probes using functionalized silica nanoparticles to target human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-overexpressing breast cancer cells and achieve efficient target imaging of HER2-expressing tumors. Polyamidoamine-based functionalized silica nanoparticles (PCSNs) for multimodal imaging were synthesized with near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence (indocyanine green (ICG)) and technetium-99m ((99m)Tc) radioactivity. Anti-HER2 antibodies were bound to the labeled PCSNs.

Parathyroid hormone and parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP), and its receptor (PTH1R) play an important role in differentiation of bone and cartilage in the developing stages. Constitutive dimers of PTH1R are believed to be dissociated by ligand binding, and monomeric PTH1R is capable of activating G protein. Jansen type metaphyseal chondrodysplasia is caused by missense mutations in PTH1R, which are constitutively active even without the presence of the ligands.

Endothelial cells participate in key aspects of vascular biology, such as maintenance of capillary permeability and regulation of inflammation. According to previous reports, endothelial cells have revealed highly specific characteristics depending on the organs and tissues. In particular, periodontal endothelial cells have a higher permeability than vascular endothelial cells of other types of tissue.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the morphological characteristics of maxillary incisors and the anterior occlusion. The study materials comprised dental casts and lateral cephalograms of 26 modern Mongolian females with Angle Class I normal occlusion (mean age, 21 years 5 months). Computed tomography (CT) images of the dental casts were taken with an X-ray micro-CT system (SMX-100CT, Shimadzu, Kyoto Japan).
