Background: The disease and mortality rates of patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) stabilize after peaking at the age of 60 years. This study aimed to identify risk factors associated with early death (death within 6 months) in elderly (≥60 years) patients with LSCC and to establish predictive nomograms to aid clinicians in developing individualized treatment plans.

Methods: Data pertaining to elderly patients with LSCC between 2004 and 2015 was obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (version 8.

Background: DNA methylation is an important epigenetic modification that plays a crucial role in the development and progression of various tumors. However, the association between methylation‑driven genes and diagnosis, prognosis, and immune characteristics of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains unclear.

Methods: We obtained transcriptome, methylation, and clinical data from HNSCC patients in TCGA database, and used MethylMix algorithm to identify methylation-driven genes.

Background: Primary tumor surgery (PTS) may enhance survival among part of patients with metastatic head and neck cancer (mHNC). Herein, a predictive model was needed to construct to identify who can gain benefit remarkably from tumor resection.

Methods: Data of patients with mHNC were extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

Evaluation of combined pathological responses in primary tumor and lymph nodes following neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer.

Lung Cancer

December 2023

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background: Inconsistent pathological responses of tumor and lymph nodes (LNs) were frequently observed in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) receiving neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy. However, there is a lack of studies to report the prognostic significance and the relevant clinicopathological factors of tumor-nodal inconsistent responses after neoadjuvant immunotherapy or chemoimmunotherapy. Therefore, this study aimed to depict the inconsistent pathological combined tumor-nodal responses in NSCLC patients after neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy as well as the underlying clinical significance.

Minimally invasive surgery vs. open thoracotomy for non-small-cell lung cancer with N2 disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Front Med (Lausanne)

May 2023

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Background: This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effectiveness and safety of minimally invasive surgery [MIS, including robotic-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (RATS) and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS)] and open thoracotomy (OT) for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with N2 disease.

Methods: We searched online databases and studies from the creation of the database to August 2022, comparing the MIS group to the OT group for NSCLC with N2 disease. Study endpoints included intraoperative outcomes [e.

The objective of this study was to explore the relevant factors affecting the 5-year survival rate of patients after radical colon cancer surgery, and to provide some basis for improving the quality of life and prognosis of colon cancer patients. The clinical data of 116 colon cancer patients who underwent treatment in our hospital from January 2017 to December 2017 were retrospectively selected. Using the date of performing surgical treatment as the starting point and the completion of 5 years after surgery or patient death as the end point, all patients were followed up by telephone to count the 5-year survival rate and analyze the influence of each factor with the prognosis of colon cancer patients.

Complete Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery for Rib Fractures: Series of 35 Cases.

Ann Thorac Surg

February 2022

Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Shenzhen Longgang Central Hospital, the Ninth People's Hospital of Shenzhen City, Shenzhen, China.

Background: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for internal fixation of rib fractures is a promising approach for treating rib fractures and flail chest. Currently the standard practice is to make 1 or several incisions on the chest wall, which will inevitably aggravate the original trauma.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of patients with rib fractures who were treated with memory alloy for internal fixation by complete VATS using a thoracoscopic transthoracic memory alloy rib coaptation board and an implantation tool through the clip applier method or the puncture, traction, and suspension method at our hospital from October 2016 to June 2019.

Objective: To study the effect of piezosurgery in the extraction of mandibular impacted third molars.

Methods: 228 mandibular impacted third molars with relative difficulty for extraction according to the scheme of degree of difficulty for extraction were included in the study, and were divided into two groups (114 teeth each group): Test group (treated by piezosurgery), control group (treated by traditional chisel osteotomy). The surgery time and pain, restriction of mouth opening and facial swelling after surgery, were evaluated in both groups.
