Total sleep time (TST) misperception has been reported in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, previous findings on predictors were inconsistent and predominantly relied on single-night polysomnography, which may alter patients' sleep perception. We leveraged advances in wearable sleep staging to investigate predictors of TST misperception in OSA over multiple nights in the home environment.

In the current study, we investigated the utility of generative AI for survey development and improvement. To do so, we generated a 24-item HEXACO personality inventory using ChatGPT 4.0, the ChatGPT HEXACO inventory (CHI), and investigated whether ChatGPT could modify the CHI to either improve its internal consistency or its content validity.

We are facing a world-wide shortage of clean drinking water which will only be further exacerbated by climate change. The development of reliable and affordable methods for water remediation is thus of utmost importance. Chlorine (which forms active hypochlorites in solution) is the most commonly used disinfectant due to its reliability and low cost.

Deep dermal and full-thickness burns often result in scar sequelae such as contractures, hypertrophy, pain and itching following split-thickness skin grafting. Dermal substitutes are currently employed alongside split-thickness skin grafting to enhance clinical outcomes, though their indications remain a subject of ongoing debate. This systematic review aims to clarify the indications for the application of dermal substitutes in burn patients, in both acute and reconstructive settings.

Background: Bariatric surgery is very effective in long-term weight management. The present study was undertaken to investigate the short-term effects of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) on (a) gastrointestinal (GI) motility, that is gastric emptying and oro-cecal transit time and (b) secretion of regulatory gut peptides and (c) their interrelationship.
Methods: Prospective single-centre study in which we assessed gastric emptying, oro-cecal transit time and gut peptide release in 28 severely obese individuals before and 2, respectively, 12 months after bariatric surgery (either SG or RYGB).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the fragment size in relation to the UCL footprint size in patients with an avulsion fracture injury and to find risk factors associated with surgical treatment.
Methods: In a cohort of avulsion fracture injury patients, the largest side of the fragment was divided by the average reported UCL footprint size (ff-ratio), and a logistic regression was performed to find variables associated with surgery.

Background: The FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles are a guideline to improve the reusability of data. However, properly implementing these principles is challenging due to a wide range of barriers.
Objectives: To further the field of FAIR data, this study aimed to systematically identify barriers regarding implementing the FAIR principles in the area of child and adolescent mental health research, define the most challenging barriers, and provide recommendations for these barriers.

Background: In the era of first-generation drug-eluting stents and angiography-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), the presence of a bifurcation lesion was associated with adverse outcomes after PCI. In contrast, the presence of a bifurcation lesion had no impact on outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Therefore, the presence of a coronary bifurcation lesion requires special attention when choosing between CABG and PCI.

Overactivation of the Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGF-β) pathway is implicated in the pathogenesis of cytopenias in Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). IOA-359 and IOA-360 are potent small molecule inhibitors of the TGF-beta Receptor type I kinase (TGF-βRI, also referred to as ALK5, activin receptor-like kinase 5) that abrogate SMAD phosphorylation in hematopoietic cell lines. Both inhibitors were able to inhibit TGF-β mediated gene transcription at specific doses.

Mitochondria from harbor a branched electron-transport chain containing a proton-pumping Complex I NADH dehydrogenase and three Type II NADH dehydrogenases (NDH-2). To investigate the physiological role, localization and substrate specificity of these enzymes, the growth of various NADH dehydrogenase knockout mutants was quantitatively characterized in shake-flask and chemostat cultures, followed by oxygen-uptake experiments with isolated mitochondria. NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreduction of the three NDH-2 were individually assessed.

Background: Orbital rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is often limited to the orbital cavity and has a favorable prognosis. In some cases, the tumor can erode the orbital bone and behave as a parameningeal RMS (PM-RMS); thus, it is treated more intensively. However, the current protocols do not provide any guidance on how to consider different grades of bone erosion (BE) that can vary widely, hampering a uniform classification and the subsequent treatment assignment.

Deep learning has significantly accelerated drug discovery, with 'chemical language' processing (CLP) emerging as a prominent approach. CLP approaches learn from molecular string representations (, Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry Systems [SMILES] and Self-Referencing Embedded Strings [SELFIES]) with methods akin to natural language processing. Despite their growing importance, training predictive CLP models is far from trivial, as it involves many 'bells and whistles'.

A defect in the canonical Wnt-β-catenin pathway may lead to reduced bone strength and increased fracture risk. Sclerostin is a key inhibitor of this pathway by binding to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor-related protein , thereby reducing bone formation. The effectiveness of romosozumab, a human monoclonal antibody that binds sclerostin and prevents this inhibitory effect, has been questioned in patients with inactivating genetic variants in or .

Introduction: Identifying peripheral arterial disease (PAD) remains challenging with currently used bedside tests. The maximal systolic acceleration (ACC) is a promising noninvasive parameter measured by duplex ultrasonography and reflects the arterial perfusion proximal to its measurement point. The principal aim of this study was to analyze the diagnostic accuracy of the ACC for detecting significant stenosis in different arterial segments, which could be useful in clinical decision-making.

The prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) progressing to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), characterized by hepatic inflammation, has significantly increased in recent years due to unhealthy dietary practices and sedentary lifestyles. Cathepsin D (CTSD), a lysosomal protease involved in lipid homeostasis, is linked to abnormal lipid metabolism and inflammation in MASH. Although primarily intracellular, CTSD can be secreted extracellularly.

Background: Historical prostate-specific antigen (PSA)-based screening studies reduced prostate cancer-related deaths but also led to overdiagnosis/overtreatment. Since then, opportunistic PSA testing has increased, and late-stage diagnoses and prostate-cancer related deaths are rising.
Objectives: To review current trends regarding PSA testing in primary care and propose a collaborative approach to improve early prostate cancer detection.
