The purpose of this retrospective study was to identify factors that could predict the discharge destination of oldest-old patients (patients aged ≥90 years). Information on the nutritional status, activities of daily living (ADL), nursing care needs based on nursing need degree (NND), rehabilitation therapy, and discharge destination was obtained from the medical records of 90 oldest-old patients aged ≥90 years admitted to our hospital, excluding orthopedic inpatients and short-term (≤5 days) inpatients. Of these, 64 were discharged home while 4 died during hospitalization.

Purpose: To report a new surgical technique with a Finesse Flex loop during internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling for a case of macular hole retinal detachment (MHRD).

Observations: A 55-year-old woman with a history of macular hemorrhage due to high myopia underwent 25-gauge vitrectomy combined with cataract surgery for MHRD. After core vitrectomy, ILM peeling was performed for macular hole (MH) closure with a novel use of a Finesse Flex loop.

Methods: This retrospective study included patients who underwent FLACS combined with 25- or 27-gauge vitrectomy at the Jikei University School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan, between August 2016 and April 2018 and were followed up for ≥ 3 months postoperatively. The aim of this study was to examine the clinicopathological characteristics of cases undergoing additional gastrectomy after endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) for early gastric cancer (EGC) and the appropriate strategy for treating those after incomplete EMR. We studied 16 patients who underwent additional gastrectomy after EMR for EGC. The reasons for additional gastrectomy were positive horizontal margin (8 cases), indeterminate horizontal margin (2 cases), positive vertical margin (4 cases), submucosal invasion (7 cases), lymphatic invasion (4 cases), venous invasion (1 case), and local recurrence (2 cases, including overlapped cases).
