In this study, we developed a unique adsorbent known as extractant-impregnated resin (EIR) by surface impregnation of XAD-11600 amberlite resin with the Vesavin ligand. This resin demonstrated exceptional selectivity for the absorption of lead (Pb) ions from aqueous solutions. The ability of EIR to remove lead from polluted water was studied as a function of experimental parameters, including the kinetics, equilibrium, and thermodynamics of the adsorption process.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) field is growing rapidly as a means to mitigate the accumulation of greenhouse gas emissions. However, the geomechanical stability of CCS systems, particularly related to bearing capacity, remains a critical challenge that requires accurate prediction models. In this research paper, we investigate the efficacy of employing an Autoregressive Deep Neural Network (ARDNN) algorithm to predict the geomechanical bearing capacity in CCS systems through shear wave velocity prediction as an index for bearing capacity evaluation of deep rock formations.

Colistin is used as a last resort for the management of infections caused by multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria. However, the use of this antibiotic could lead to different side effects, such as nephrotoxicity, in most patients, and the high prevalence of colistin-resistant strains restricts the use of colistin in the clinical setting. Additionally, colistin could induce resistance through the increased formation of biofilm; biofilm-embedded cells are highly resistant to antibiotics, and as with other antibiotics, colistin is impaired by bacteria in the biofilm community.

Background: The health benefits of dietary polyphenol intake (DPI) including improved lipid profiles, blood pressure, insulin resistance, and reduced systemic inflammation has revealed previously. However, the results of numerous studies are not consistent and it seems that these health effects are attributed to some of DPI. In the current research, we evaluated the health benefits of DPI on metabolic markers and glycemic markers among overweight and obese individuals.

Catechin is a naturally occurring flavonoid of the flavan-3-ol subclass with numerous biological functions; however, these benefits are diminished due to several factors, including low water solubility and degradation in the stomach's harsh environment. So, this study aimed to develop an intelligent catechin colon-targeting delivery system with a high loading capacity. This was done by coating surface-decorated mesoporous silica nanoparticles with a pH-responsive enteric polymer called Eudragit®-S100.

Article Synopsis
  • ESRD is linked to various biochemical and neuropsychiatric changes, particularly involving neuronal damage biomarkers like GFAP, NFL, S100B, and others, which have not been extensively researched.
  • The study aims to explore connections between these neuro-axis biomarkers, inflammatory markers such as CRP and interleukins, and neuropsychiatric symptoms in ESRD patients.
  • Results indicate that ESRD patients show higher levels of neuropsychiatric symptoms and certain biomarkers, with factors like kidney function and dialysis frequency correlating with the severity of these symptoms and inflammatory responses.

We designed and prepared a novel -heterocycle-based nanocatalyst by a post synthetic method, namely the [FeO@DAA-BTrzPhen-Cu(ii)] composite. In this method, bistriazolyl-phenanthroline groups were stepwise synthesized on an FeO substrate and used as a tetradentate nitrogenous ligand for coordinating to copper ions. The obtained nanocomposite was well characterized using FT-IR, PXRD, TGA, EDAX, ICP-OES, EDX-mapping, SEM, TEM, VSM and BET analyses, which confirm the formation of a thermostable crystalline spherical particle morphology with the particle size in the range of 17 nm to 25 nm and a magnetization value of 42 emu g.

Aerobic glycolysis, also known as the Warburg effect, is a metabolic phenomenon frequently observed in cancer cells, characterized by the preferential utilization of glucose through glycolysis, even under normal oxygen conditions. This metabolic shift provides cancer cells with a proliferative advantage and supports their survival and growth. While the Warburg effect has been extensively studied, the underlying mechanisms driving this metabolic adaptation in cancer cells remain incompletely understood.
